Community Tasting Notes (average 93.7 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 26 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by lepetitchateau on 5/10/2023 & rated 94 points: Super pretty wine but showing more subtlety than fireworks, but it is a classic Chablis in its flinty tightness, compression and confident fruit. Very nice. (1023 views)
Tasted by finewinebuff57 on 10/19/2022 & rated 95 points: One of three Raveneau wines during a recent trip to France (this and Montee de Tonnerre 2013). This is drinking now but with I suspect a long drinking window, Balance, long, effortless.. (1280 views)
Tasted by acyso on 7/13/2022 & rated 95 points: "Nick says ditto" (Chicago, IL): For drinking right now, this was far more exciting than the 2004 Clos that we had a few nights ago. This doesn't have a very strong reductive signature, but there is just a slight hint of it on the nose. I had forgotten that I drank this out of magnum half a year ago, but revisiting my note from then, I would say my experiences tonight with this wine were substantially similar. Incredibly dense and concentrated, but with an openness thanks to the fruit here, that makes this really enjoyable to drink right now. (2620 views)
Tasted by danstrings on 7/9/2022 & rated 92 points: Ethereally balanced and at first reticent Raveneau. Super light clear color, almost no signs of age there. Reticent nose at first opened up to stone fruit, crushed minerals, and a touch of coconut creme.. Silky palate with some honeyed (but dry) fruit and nut notes, and more minerality chiming in. A "contemplation wine"... (1709 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 2/25/2022: Saline with tremendous density. Deep rich viscous mouthfeel. The density here is remarkable, and the wine greatly benefitted from time in the glass. A superb Raveneau. (2123 views)
Tasted by englishman's claret on 12/25/2021: Fabulous, but sacrificed far, far too young as it was only on the palate and finish that the panoply of intense Meyer lemon, lime, and oyster begrudgingly showed themselves with air. 95+
From 2026- (3005 views)
Tasted by BenBlu on 11/19/2021 & rated 94 points: Raveneau Grand Cru with Maxime Raveneau (110 Taillevent London): During Raveneau dinner with Maxime Raveneau sampling all three GCs 12/10/08/05 at 110 Taillevent London. No formal notes taken. Highest acidity of the trio, in vein of vintage mineral and almost painfully tight today. Wait 3-5 years and you will have a wonderful wine on your hands. 93 today with potential to 94/95. (1838 views)
Tasted by acyso on 11/8/2021 & rated 95 points: Monday Night Football and Grand Cru (Chicago, IL): From magnum. An outstanding bottle of Chablis, especially in contrast to the much flabbier 2006 Dauvissat Clos alongside. I'd never been too keen on the 2012 vintage after a disappointing bottle of MdT that was structureless and unshapely. This bottle on the other hand was anything but; plenty of fruit, but also plenty of mineral intensity on the back end that gives you a bit of that tannic feeling on the palate (even though of course there are no tannins here). (2134 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 11/8/2021 & rated 93 points: Magnum. Reasonably open from the get go, but this certainly blossoms and fleshes out over several hours. Still quite young with fresh fruits and taut, minerally structure. No rush, particularly in this format. (1508 views)
Tasted by B Paul on 10/12/2021: Typical Raveneau notes of mineral, lemon and spice, though this certainly has a grand cru weight/intensity to it. Would like to try again in another 5-10 years. Excellent wine that will only get better. (1240 views)
Tasted by JonnyG on 10/8/2021 & rated 95 points: A Tour de Force 'Best Bottle' Tasting (Republique, Los Angeles): Such impressive typicity and class, steely and linear, with bright acidity, some beeswax, saline notes, oyster shell and a bit of chiffon. Very long finish. (1307 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 7/10/2020 & rated 93 points: A lost Friday afternoon gathering – COVID safety measures - Mostly Blind (Reston, Va): Expressive nose displaying rich white and yellow fruit, a hint of oak, honey, white flowers and mineral. Excellent concentration, packed concentrated white and yellow fruit, dense, generous and rich, medium acidity, medium mineral and a medium long rich yellow fruit driven finish. I am thinking a 1er crus Meursault as it is fat and there is a hint of oak. Still needs time. (2547 views)
Tasted by LWI on 6/9/2019 & rated 92 points: 60-års dag og blinsmaking: Blind. Svakt smør, blanding av smør og nøtter i munnen, middels kropp, fin intensitet. Mange var nok på Chablis, men overraskende tilgjengelig for en så ung Rav, så det var ikke lett å ta produsenten. (2644 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 1/28/2019 & rated 93 points: Slow oxed for 2 hours before serving. Honey, pear, citrus and chalk on the nose. Palate was ripe but also balanced with medium acidity for its youth. Lots of underlying substance like exotic fruit, minerals and flint . Grand cru density but just missing that laser sharp acidity. An early drinking vintage but delicious nevertheless. A ripe vintage suits Raveneau’s style very well. (2652 views)
Tasted by Berge65 on 12/18/2018 & rated 93 points: Had at Kevin’s holiday blind tasting (2189 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 7/24/2018 & rated 96 points: Here we go. This is grand cru weight, intensity and balance in a classically understated Chablis package. (2264 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 12/10/2017 & rated 94 points: Frisch, präzise, salzig. 94 (2483 views)
Tasted by The Vines That Bind on 4/27/2016 & rated 92 points: Medium plus intense nose of wet slate and clay, touch of salinity, extremely fresh, some seashells, very rich white and yellow fruit. Dense and very rich on the palate, far more depth and cream than 1ers. Great acid and structure, quite moathcoating. Not reductive, but very big and full for Chablis. Obviously a touch young just now but still a great example of top vineyard and producer Grand Cru Chablis. (3148 views)
Tasted by llink on 3/5/2015 & rated 93 points: Maritime influenced nose with lemon spice and iodine mixed in. Bulkier on the palate than the 1er cru wines, with more of everything in all dimensions, somewhat lean on the finish but lots of intense fruit and coiled energy here. (3647 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 11/15/2014: Very Chablis with aromas of stone, iodine and chalk. There is richness in the mouth and the palate is unctuous, textured and sappy. A most pleasant taste of aniseed works through the palate and the wine has fabulous intensity and purity. Length is superb. (3487 views)
Presis, frisk syre. Nydelig mineralitet i utgangen. Svært lang. Er dette Raveneaus beste vin i 2012?
95-96 P (2899 views)
Tasted by JOsgood on 10/23/2013: Barrel sample at the Domaine. Gorgeous. Fresh nose. Crisp apple on the palate with crackling acidity. Beautiful length. This is going to be special. (3433 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
