Community Tasting Notes (average 92.8 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 158 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Burgundy Al on 4/2/2024 & rated 92 points: Served single blind alongside a slightly corked 2003. Sigh. Mostly mature black fruit, nicely meaty, with assertive structure clear and present. Good weight, density, and balance. (550 views)
Tasted by acyso on 3/2/2024 & rated 95 points: Some nice Burgundies (Chicago, IL): A fantastic showing of this wine, which has always been one of the choicest bottles in the Jadot lineup. Intense ripe strawberries on the nose, with an earthy spice note to supplement it. This is resolved and silky in texture, and the fruit, while sweet, doesn't feel heavy at all. There's a translucent quality to this wine with crystalline precision that's so damn good. A seriously impressive bottle of pinot noir that can readily hold its own against a lot of other spendier bottles. (902 views)
Tasted by aajder on 1/15/2024 & rated 91 points: Great color, just a little bricking. The nose is fragrant; showing aromas of raspberries, black raspberries, flowers, charred oak, spices and a hint of minerals. This is almost full bodied on the palate with excellent concentration and very good class. The long finish features integrated tannins and a mineral element. This is a bit past its prime in my opinion. Nonetheless, outstanding quality. (663 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 1/1/2024 & rated 94 points: Jadot Clos St Jacques Vertical: '90 '02 '08 (Rosebowl @ Ben & Kendra's): Pnp over 4 hours. The 2002 is in a heavenly place right now: silky with a delightful harmony of fruit and all sorts of range. Integrated but still fresh with red fruit and spice; still lovely thrust. Ripe, fruit-cushioned acidity. Oscillates between the fruit (red, blue, and black) and other notes like cured meat, soft peppermint, cherry bark, and leather. Flowers. Earth like the '90 and '08 but here less of it and more freshly tilled. Far more on the fruit end of the spectrum than the 1990 or the 2008 but less power than either. Enjoyable evolution -2030. (819 views)
Tasted by Vinumming & Ahhing on 12/7/2023 & rated 94 points: Jadotfest 2023 (Noizé, London): So much going on here, darker fruits than some of the other wines we've tried. There's some charred banana leaf, some blueberries and a couple of ppm of Quink ink. Palate is cool fruited, slightly spicy and with a hint of white flowers. So complete. My and the table's second favourite wine of the night. (929 views)
Tasted by oenanthe on 12/7/2023 & rated 95 points: Jadotfest 2023 (Noizé, London): Beautiful wine, depth and grandeur, vibrant with lots of life, there is polished and sleek and dark red fruit, a lick of sweet high-toned varnish, considerable freshness and a purity that just makes you stop and think about how good it is. Ooof. Of all the wines tonight this was arguably in the best spot for drinking, when you manage to somehow (and against the odds!) hit red burgundy at peak it is a really special moment. My red WOTN. Just brilliant. (836 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 4/5/2023 & rated 93 points: beautiful wine... out of 375ml bottle and loved this... right down the middle with red fruit and moderate acidity... fruit over a little bit of secondary... feels young frankly (1608 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 2/20/2023 & rated 93 points: Soft and expressive on the nose - spices, earthy notes, red fruit, mushrooms. Very open and fragrant. On the palate detailed with a nice mineral streak, good acidity. Quite harmonious and fine. Very long. Drink (or keep). 92-94 (1729 views)
Tasted by Milos on 12/26/2022 & rated 92 points: I hoped to repeat my recent experience with this wine but it was not to be. This does not mean it was not enjoyable. Deep garnet with some brick; dark red fruit with some mineral notes on the nose. The palate intense but the fruit was outplayed by the tannins, ripe and moderately fine, but more notable than they should be. Moderately long finish. Four more to go. Fingers crossed. (1679 views)
Tasted by Paul D on 12/1/2022 & rated 91 points: Richard's Jadotfest (The Medlar, Chelsea): A touch closed at first, strawberry fruit, game, spice, fine but still firm tannins, fresh acids, good length finish. (1857 views)
Tasted by NickA on 12/1/2022 & rated 93 points: 2022 Jadotfest (Medlar, Chelsea): Nicely detailed nose with plenty of red cherry. Juicy and well-balanced with good weight of fruit. Crisp and refreshing, sleek yet substantial... really fine, but not as majestic as a bottle six months ago, and faded a little in the glass. Still my #3 WOTN though. (1933 views)
Tasted by lozatron on 12/1/2022: Jadotfest 22; 12/1/2022-12/2/2022 (The Medlar): Oooh - a tingle on the collarbone, this is lovely. I wrote "jewel like fruit" which I think was said by someone else first, but totally accurate. Slightly candied, and a tannic finish - doesn't *quite* deliver on the exit what it promised on the entrance but - a really lovely wine. Didn't make my top 3 but equally - I could have marked it my #1 in different circs I think. (1552 views)
Tasted by Vinumming & Ahhing on 12/1/2022: Jadotfest 2022 (Medlar, London): Younger, smoky meaty nose. Some crème de cassis and plum. Rich, long, pure. Very good. My 3rd wine of the night. (1505 views)
Tasted by schan109 on 11/25/2022 & rated 93 points: Paired with Dom Laurent CSJ 2002. Bottle breathe for 75 min, the nose was elegant with flower and red fruit but less open than Laurent. The palate is bright, more sharp with cherry, violet. Very clean and less rounded compared to Laurent. Jadot displayed its own character. Ready to drink now. (1154 views)
Tasted by Milos on 11/19/2022 & rated 96 points: Drank at Scaramouche. I’ve drank supposedly better wines than this, but the one thought that kept occurring to me while I was drinking this was that I do not need to drink anything better. This is Nirvana. The last 30 years or so trying to understand wine and particular Burgundy were not wasted. Wines like this bottle are worth the search. The wine was everything it should. Deep garnet with nearly no sign of brick; forward with bright dark red fruit with just a touch of earthiness. The palate intense, no tannins, just mouth coating smoothness that tapered to a long, long finish. Balance and precision. If you have it, drink it. The evolution from here will be interesting, but not sure that it is worth the risk. (1216 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 9/27/2022 & rated 96 points: Lonny Should Turn 65 More Often (The Kenwood, Mpls, MN): Medium red color. PNP, drank a glass over 2 hours. Wow, this sing from the get go. Chanterelle mushrooms, dried roses, lifted dried forest floor, cherry, delicate spice notes, iron, medium bodied, more of a red berry mix on the palate, very long and satiny. This is in a great place, simply gorgeous, with sleek tannins and great structure. As Chablis28 notes, harmonious and very zen. Wow. (1703 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 9/27/2022 & rated 96 points: Companion btl to my '06 Fourrier CSJ & Lonny's 14 Dujac CM Les Gruenchers. What a flight! This is perhaps the best wine I've had to date from Jadot where I too often find myself trudging through cloaking oak for the first 10yrs of many Jadot reds. At age 20, this is in a perfect spot w/ the Jadot oak, now fully integrated. Lovely nose w/ forest floor & spice. Palate delivers red & black raspberry, earth, spice & mineral and more forest floor on a silky weightless frame. So svelte, yet powerful & concentrated. Long & mouth coating. More lifted and fresh than many '02 red Burgs too. "Best of flight" for its overall harmony & zen balance tonight, for me. 96+ (1585 views)
Tasted by RobinTeo on 9/3/2022 & rated 94 points: Y's Birthday at KDN

My contribution to the evening. Was a little surprised at the color of this one in glass and even more surprised after tasting it - felt so primary with the legs to go for another 15 years. Dark red fruit with meaty undertones and baking spices followed by lush ripe red fruit, some stems and a tinge of sweetness. Tannins silky but would do better with a bit time to allow for more integration. (1414 views)
Tasted by melvinyeowq on 9/3/2022 & rated 93 points: Yvelin's birthday at Kolabo: Love Jadot's CSJs. Very similar to the Laurent that came before so I was sure both were CSJs initially. Silky and elegant, pure red fruit that seemed so young and vibrant that I guessed this to be a 09. Great balance and very well-judged oak use, saline finish. Preferred this at the start but seemed to shut down after a while. (1813 views)
Tasted by Dibbs on 9/3/2022 & rated 93 points: I went to Vosne with this given the sweetness and some spice on the palate. Was surprised when it was revealed that it was a CSJ given the sweetness on the palate. Still a while to go for this but drinking very well. Just drank a tad too sweet which wasn’t distracting but would have preferred a bit more preciseness. (1497 views)
Tasted by Jd6725 on 8/4/2022 & rated 94 points: Clearly a very good wine. Bottle looked perfect. Although I can't be sure how perfect it had been stored. Held its own next to the 2001 CSJ and 2005 Bouchard Aux Reignots. Probably the 3rd wotn by the end. I think a few more years are needed to balance. It was tight very early but air helped. However the peak didn't last more than an hour. 95 at peak. 93 start and finish. (1204 views)
Tasted by DAN BAILEY on 5/5/2022: Great purity. Black and red fruit with a hint of gaminess. Very clean. Gorgeous, sexy, tingly mouthfeel. Black cherries. Very rich. Outstanding. (1372 views)
Tasted by NickA on 5/5/2022 & rated 95 points: 2002 Burgs (Noize): This was great - really in the zone. Heady, red-fruited nose, also showing some black cherry and peach skin. Excellent on the palate, so moreish and alluring: spicy and exotic, flavours of violet and Luxardo cherry, silky yet with sufficient grip. It's not often that these richer Burgundies are so balanced and drinkable but I could have drunk a flagon of this. My WOTN, group's #3. (2141 views)
Tasted by Vinumming & Ahhing on 5/5/2022 & rated 95 points: Nick A's 2002 Burgundy Horizontal (Table B) (Noizé, London): Wow. More in the red fruits here. Some Bakewell almond puree and cherry notes to the nose. Palate is utterly gorgeous texturally and flavour wise - what one really seeks in Burgundy. The tannins are beautifully resolved, the acidity refreshes and the rich morello cherry fruit caresses. With time some freshly sliced damson emerges on the nose. Outstanding and my second favourite wine of the night. (1920 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 4/26/2022 & rated 93 points: Blind 96/97/02/03. "This tasted like a 2002, therefore it must be the 2003" ... i got inside my head a bit too much with this one. Loads of pure red and black cherry with intense and well-integrated spice and meat. Plush, generous fruit is buoyant and complete. At peak and should hold for a decade+ (1988 views)

The House of Louis Jadot has been producing exceptional Burgundy wines since its founding in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. For the past 150 years Louis Jadot has continued as one of the great names of Burgundy and has gained international reputation for its superb red and white Burgundy wines. Louis Jadot is not only one of the largest producers of estate Burgundies of the Cote d'Or, it is one of the most celebrated exporters of premium Burgundies, owning close to 140 acres of vineyards from 24 of the most prestigious sites in Burgundy.

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
