Community Tasting Notes (average 91.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 26 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by msuwine on 6/9/2016 & rated 87 points: A sugary Chardonnay that tastes more like a dessert wine than a mountain Chardonnay. Light yellow in color, medium in body, nose of gooseberry and lemon. Tastes of cantaloupe, vanilla, and candied almond, with a somewhat oily finish. 14.3% alcohol. Almost like a wealthy person's KJ Reserve, this wine has acidity and fruit, but its sweet streak was too much for me. Maybe it was bottle or age, but this was disappointing. (3085 views)
Tasted by winejnky on 2/15/2016 & rated 91 points: Nice medium body Chardonnay, plenty of fruit complemented by minerality, acidity and moderate oak. This has a lower profile than many big CA Chardonnays and I like that a lot. (2742 views)
Tasted by jkad on 8/15/2015 & rated 88 points: It's a good oaky style California Chardonnay, but Chalk Hill is very close and can be found for 1/3rd the cost. (3293 views)
Tasted by Empirate on 10/24/2014 & rated 92 points: Pop and pour. Served at refrigerator temp. Outstanding California style chardonnay with brilliant use of oak to compliment beautiful fruit unobtrusively. Drinking great, bravo! (3857 views)
Tasted by R&R on 10/19/2014 & rated 92 points: Love this wine! Strikes a nice balance between "over the top" Cali Chards and cooler climate Chards from Washington and Oregon. (3532 views)
Tasted by pvewino on 8/29/2014 & rated 92 points: Very little oak. Lots of citrus notes. Very good now. (1658 views)
Tasted by Jwd12 on 3/28/2014 & rated 91 points: Elegant wine, nose had fruity with minerality and crispness. Taste was impressive with light fruit including orange lemon and kiwi. Very little oak. Highly recommended to all chard fans (1822 views)
Tasted by mrmedoes on 1/5/2014 & rated 91 points: Light color for some Cali Chardonnays leads to a much more zesty nose than you'd expect. A little more classic chard on the flavor profile, but still with some citrus you wouldn't necessarily expect, and a lighter (or at least better integrated) oak profile than most with a very creamy texture to it that I believe does a great job of putting it all together. I like it at 50-55 degrees with some air. (1525 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
