Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.4 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 133 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by SyrahForth310 on 7/8/2018 & rated 91 points: A superb zin that has aged reasonably well and softened over time. Full flavor with a soft and long finish. Suspect it has lost some of it's complexity and depth due to age, so would not keep this 2012 much longer. (1887 views)
Tasted by Love Good Wine on 8/9/2017: To Peggy for Jane's birthday (2371 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 5/20/2017 & rated 88 points: 39th Annual Zinfandel Retrospective - the 2012s (R&D's): Initially a bit muddled. Generic notes of red and dark fruit. Chewy tannins; decent amount of briary fruit on the palate. Spice with red and black fruit emerge after a while but I sense this only showed a portion of itself. I was obviously in the minority here.

My #8, Domino's #2
Group #2, 39 pts (3113 views)
Tasted by drdecanto on 5/13/2017 & rated 92 points: Best bottle yet. 2 and a half years after the first. I was not a fan back then, but it has gotten better and better and better. Wish I had bought more. Back then I lamented buying 6. Who knew? This bottle ended up at my girlfriends home in her cellar and we just found it and had it with grilled chicken. Smooth and very full-bodied. Enough structure to keep it interesting. (2571 views)
Tasted by Dan & Patti on 2/15/2017 & rated 90 points: Smooth full mouthfeel, dark fruit, long finish (2743 views)
Tasted by MadisonWIneGuy on 1/28/2017 & rated 90 points: Nice, easy-drinking zin. 89-90 pts. (1755 views)
Tasted by srh on 10/15/2016: CA Reds (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: Fairly closed, but intensity lurking? Jammy?

P: F body; Ripe, lingering albeit somewhat faint finish. While BIG, this is NOT clumsy, & it has the acidity for full-flavored cuisine. 90 pts WA, 88 pts WS? (1900 views)
Tasted by KendraPM on 8/17/2016 & rated 90 points: Alway an excellent wine for the price point. (1479 views)
Tasted by rexmerlot on 7/2/2016 & rated 89 points: Clear dark purple in colour. Clean nose of current and spice. Dry, med+ body, med acidity, lots of jammy fruit on palate. Almost a little to sweet for me. Still a nice wine, and nicely made zin. (1656 views)
Tasted by cdp1276 on 5/12/2016 & rated 90 points: Pleasantly surprised for a Costco impulse buy. (1695 views)
Tasted by drdecanto on 5/2/2016 & rated 91 points: Better than 6 months ago. (1685 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 3/3/2016 & rated 90 points: PnP. Clear, deep purple color. Med proper nose. Med body/length, true to fruit, not over extracted but ripe. Good drinking window now. Nothing off.

Tasted by jillietee on 2/13/2016 & rated 90 points: Not too jammy, drinkable (1642 views)
Tasted by joehwpg on 12/24/2015 & rated 91 points: Paired with grilled steaks on the BBQ. Inky dark. Currant and spice. Beautifully long finish. (1794 views)
Tasted by drdecanto on 11/18/2015 & rated 89 points: A little flabby and unfocused. Lots of fruit. (1844 views)
Tasted by Panars on 10/28/2015: I like it (1876 views)
Tasted by brucerob on 10/2/2015 & rated 90 points: Full bodied, expressive zin blend with a beautiful finish. Great QPR. WHATS NOT TO LIKE ?! (1869 views)
Tasted by Tony Poli on 8/12/2015 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured at cellar temperature, with burgers on the grill. Needed a bit of time in the glass to open up, but then gave us a fruity, spicy, balanced Zin palate. Dark, bright purple color, really pretty in the glass. Med/long finish. Present from Jon, he did well with this selection. (2013 views)
Tasted by JohnnyShiraz on 8/9/2015 & rated 90 points: 15.9% ABV

a “blend of 85% Zinfandel and the rest Petite Sirah and Syrah.”

I was looking for more complexity considering it has other varietals blended in.

I would drink this wine in 2015. It is not designed to age. (1776 views)
Tasted by Baron Slick on 7/15/2015 & rated 89 points: Big, rich, and intense, showing black fruit, brambles, wintergreen, and toasty oak aromas. Somehow manages not to be bombastic, with a nice mouthfeel and fruit masking its high alcohol. Air softens this quite a bit, taming a bevy of peppercorn and spice box overtones. Hearty finish. (1603 views)
Tasted by Smartrock on 6/30/2015 & rated 94 points: Hammer, sehr fruchtig, Lakritze! Wird 1 Stunde nach Öffnen immer besser, runder, verliert Suesse, sehr komplex, vielschichtig. (457 views)
Tasted by taylorwfu on 6/23/2015 & rated 86 points: Had it with a steak. Hearty wine. Very fruit forward. A little harsh at first but it got better as time went on. Consistently had a tartness in the finish. Decent wine, but not a show stopper. (1706 views)
Tasted by Jsmithbim on 6/5/2015 & rated 84 points: This wine is a dark fruit fruit sugar bomb. Very little spice notes and not much structure. Drank on its own and may have paired better with with some meat and cheese snacks but would not have held up to a steak or burger or anything else you might typically drink red zin with. (1664 views)
Tasted by MacManifest on 6/4/2015 & rated 88 points: What a great casual drinking wine. It's a red which I love, and it's a Zin. What more do you need to ask. (1398 views)
Tasted by tomoem on 5/22/2015 & rated 85 points: Spicy notes with a slight sour fruit aftertaste. Respectable but probably not exactly the model zinfandel. More like a meritage with syrah like aftertaste. (1280 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
