Tasted by scjross on 5/13/2023 & rated 92 points: Wonderful surprise off the list at Chambers this evening. Previously, the only aged Sandhi I'd tasted were Sanford and Benedict. This bottling was new to me. Excellent showing. Lemon, vanilla, salt, perfect balance, long. A little more tension at this stage than S&B bottles of similar age. Great on fish and especially chicken. Still has upside. 92-93 (125 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 5/22/2021: nose - pit fruit
mouth - tense and minerally, delicious underride peach, spearmint, floral, exquisite. very surprised by this wine tonight. (717 views)
Tasted by Rusty1488 on 1/10/2021 & rated 91 points: Second bottle in the last few weeks. This is much better than the first. This feels less tired, fresher and more balanced than the previous bottle. Much of the primary fruit has subsided leaving preserved lemon, crushed rocks, wet stone, a little oak and some orchard fruit on the nose. Palate is showing that same lemon and minerality. Medium/medium + acidity. Oak is well integrated, medium long finish. This is an enjoyable wine. Splash decant. Paired with sushi. (655 views)
Tasted by yaCellar on 5/15/2020 & rated 93 points: In youth this is a sharp as can be with a bright lemon lime freshness. 8 years of age have converted this from Chablis to White Burg, with a beautiful, round butterscotch and Meyer lemon. Day two: white flowers, delicate perfume, gun flint. (704 views)
Tasted by yaCellar on 3/13/2020 & rated 94 points: Oldest Sandhi I’ve tried and just lovely. This has plenty of life left. (710 views)
Tasted by ravikalaga on 1/20/2019 & rated 94 points: The ageing of this wine is phenomenal. The reduction early on when bottled is gone, it's dense but crisp, amazing aromatics... this is how I pictured this wine to be 6yrs on and it does not disappoint. Keeping the rest for at least another 5yrs. (930 views)
Tasted by jhbehrens on 6/8/2018 & rated 89 points: Lacks acidity and therefore a little flabby. The regular 2012 chardonnay is significantly better (828 views)
Tasted by robertek on 2/19/2018 & rated 93 points: This clearly a favorite of the Sandhi whites - second only to Bentrock. (1052 views)
Tasted by 70Tondonia on 6/29/2016 & rated 92 points: Tasted side by side with the 2012 Sandhi Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills. Pale straw colored and light to medium bodied. Zesty lemon and green apples dominate this racy, steely, razor-sharp wine which is reminiscent of a Chablis. The finish is tangy, mouthwatering, and long. Well done. (1351 views)
Tasted by tbone on 4/16/2016: Fabtabulous! Fresh squeezed limes, mineral and dry as a bone. Has that great sour, acidic finish that goes on for days and makes it so easy to drink. Great vineyard, great chardonnay. (1443 views)
Tasted by drrobvino on 4/2/2016: Took this bottle to Bite restaurant and enjoyed with dinner and friends.
Crisp and correct, some well-bridled oak notes that are certainly a distant second to citrus and green apple aromas and flavors.
Great acidity and a med+ finish.
Quite tasty and drinking beautifully now through 2017+. (1229 views)
Tasted by Oh Dae-su on 10/10/2015 & rated 92 points: Astoundingly salty and crisp, very decent length, cool balance, very suitable touch of oak - big surprise, far off from being conventional cali chardonnay (1437 views)
Tasted by m_arcon on 10/9/2015 & rated 93 points: Well done Rajat Parr & Sashi Moorman! What a acid management. Crispy, fresh and salty. Everything I love in a good Chardonnay. The only question is: Will this wine get more complexity after some cellaring. I wish so. (1355 views)
Tasted by coremill on 9/29/2015 & rated 89 points: Chardonnay Dinner at PDH (PDH): Sweet green apple, ripe pear, good acid with a hint of minerals. This is nice and crisp with good tension and length, but I'd prefer just a bit more minerally complexity. Still very good. (1622 views)
Tasted by phil the agony on 9/7/2015 & rated 92 points: Un nez d'agrumes,de fruits à chairs blanches et fruits exotiques.
(992 views)
Tasted by yaCellar on 3/21/2015 & rated 92 points: So bright, crisp, balanced and beautiful. Medium acidity. Raw sweet snap peas. And, of course lemon. (1145 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 1/26/2015 & rated 92 points: Tasted next to the 2012 Sanford & Benedict. Finer and more delicate in comparison. Fresh, less intense, finer with wonderful balance on the palate, remarkable length and persistence. Both are excellent, I had a slight preference for Rita's Crown though. 91-93+ (1314 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 11/4/2014 & rated 93 points: A delicious and intense Chardonnay with impeccable balance and precision. There is such a crescendo of power, depth and flavor on the mid-palate and back end. Terrific complex favor profile includes white and tropical fruit, mineral and stone along with some barrel spice. Mouth puckering acidity provides balance. Long, lifted finish. An impressive Chard. (1443 views)
Tasted by air guitar & pinot noir on 8/4/2014 & rated 92 points: Similar to my prior note. This wine has an outstanding nose and offers delicious fruit within an integrated and structured delivery. This definitely has time ahead of it if you can keep your hands off it now. Rather than its individual elements, this wine shines because of the overall package it offers. Wonderful! (1409 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 7/17/2014 & rated 91 points: Tasting with Tenzing at Señor Pan.
Didn't show as well as the '11 for me believe it or not. Not the same depth and complexity.
Pink grapefruit, tropical and lemon zest. Balanced fresh finish. Unique touches with white pepper and ginger. Again, very fresh. (1440 views)
Tasted by air guitar & pinot noir on 6/15/2014 & rated 92 points: Beautiful Chardonnay. Lovely structure and flavor. White flowers and minerality. Excellent structure. Very approachable but certainly able to lay down for some time given the components of this wine. Very well made and speaks to the terroir of the St. Rita Hills. (1227 views)
Tasted by Jbird73 on 6/2/2014 & rated 92 points: Light gold in color, glistening in the glass...pretty to look at. Nose hits with tropical fruit tones off the get go...first impression in the mouth is the acid and then quickly the fruits with tart apple and sharp pear..very good and definitely tart green fruits with a hint of pineapple on the finish which is nice...interesting...I really like this one. (1286 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 3/10/2014 & rated 91 points: Very light green-tinged yellow color; ripe pear, ripe apple nose; tasty, tart pear, tart apple, mineral palate with medium acidity; medium-plus finish (11 months in 15% new oak) 91+ points (503 views)

Sandhi Wines

producer website

Sandhi is a small-scale producer in Santa Rita Hills, California.

The winery was founded by legendary sommelier Rajat Parr and winemaker Sashi Moorman.

Sandhi wants to represent the sacred union between man, earth and vine needed to create the best wines. The focus is mainly on chardonnay and pinot noir from Santa Barbara County and the vineyard locations are carefully selected for their unique qualities and personalities.

The wines are often described as being able to beat many great Burgundians in blind tastings and really show off the expressiveness and elegance that California has to offer.

These finer edge qualities are no surprise as the majority of the fruit is from the Domaine de la Cote estate vineyards, home to some of the country's rarest and most high-toned Pinots.

Tasting Note
Beetroot, cherry and plum flavours are most in evidence along with a developing gamey, autumnal note that will develop further in time.

A contradictory Pinot of purity and depth.

About Sandhi

Sandhi is the partner wine label to Domaine de la Cote, founded by Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman in the Santa Rita Hills area of Santa Barbara, up the coast from Los Angeles.

Sandhi are generally more approachable wines, to the palate and the wallet, than Domaine de la Cote, and explore the potential of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from across Santa Barbara and California.

Sandhi means 'treaty' or 'alliance' in Sanskrit, to represent the partnerships he has formed with local, sustainable grape growers who supply much of the fruit for Sandhi wines.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
