Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.1 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 36 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Thomas123 on 5/19/2024 & rated 93 points: Very satisfactory, a top class barbaresco in the making. Fresh cherries in autumn forest floor leaves. Aggressive tannins, as they should be in a Nebbiolo. Will leave my last bottle for a few years- if I can: not much luck so far (29 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 10/22/2023 & rated 94 points: Tasting lunch. I really liked this for its cool blue fruit and delineated palate. Aristocratic restraint. Reminded me of Brovia Barolo. (1201 views)
Tasted by Thomas123 on 9/1/2023 & rated 92 points: Just getting into form. There is greatness here, lurking underneath. I think this will unfold its wings within 1-2 years and by then be a top class refined and complex Nebbiolo. Today it is very, very good but a bit rough around the edges (613 views)
Tasted by Al-Vino on 5/20/2023 & rated 92 points: Excellent Nebbiolo that has plenty of cellaring potential left in the tank. Not as muscular as a Barolo but excellent value. (703 views)
Tasted by rfarrar on 12/11/2021: very good wine - Dana has been to the Region and loved the wine (1349 views)
Tasted by peterk on 5/2/2021: Rich, but with good tannin. Lovely balance. Long finish. (1660 views)
 Tasted by NostraBacchus on 2/27/2021 & rated 96 points: During a Zoom-tasting I hosted.

Notes of crushed violets, rose petals, tar, pure red and dark red fruit, some spices, some red and dark plum. Medium-full bodied, with medium-high acidity and medium-high tannin that is superb quality. Excellent length. This is still super young, but so excellent, all this needs is a little more time in bottle but this is world-class Barbaresco. (1941 views)
Tasted by cadamson on 1/31/2021: Very good, in early stages of drinking window. Lots of upside. (1636 views)
Tasted by Voodoo_Champagne on 7/30/2020: Clearly a food wine, uncorked at noon, decanted 5 hours later and tasted, a strong wine 14 %, not very tasty , but when we had it with Carbonara con Guanciale it grew so much, was delicious and creamy, I have through some bottles all mysterious and not tasty, but then last bottle great(not a style I like but I can drink it) (2205 views)
Tasted by Motz on 6/7/2020 & rated 97 points: Power packed and built for the long haul! A mistake to have opened this so early. True, pure. (2418 views)
Tasted by rama on 3/21/2020: Anise, black cherry, gobs of saline. Medium acid, medium tannin, full bodies with a long finish. Quiet complex. (1458 views)
Tasted by PSPatrick on 2/10/2020 & rated 92 points: The wine was medium to dark ruby in colour and offered red fruit, floral notes, marzipan, clove and tar on the nose. On the palate, the wine showed red fruit, maraschino cherry, oranges, marzipan, spices, clove, pipe tobacco, hints of coffee and chocolate as well as a mineral component, with fresh, lively acidity, plenty of well-behaved tannin and superb length. Medium- to full-bodied and very energetic. Quite polished. Truly beautiful! Even better on day two. Approachable already, but I would allow the wine at least another five years. I wish I had bought more than only two bottles... (1595 views)
Tasted by anstruletz on 1/13/2020: This is in a pretty good place, but still benefits from a vigorous decant. (1417 views)
Tasted by Motz on 7/11/2019 & rated 97 points: By no means among the prettiest Barbarescos that I have crossed paths with, but certainly among the best. High-pitched, ultra-precise, and built for the long haul, through 2040 with ease, probably 2050. Effusive, mind-bending substance throughout. Let it rest. 96-97. (2725 views)
Tasted by Markus IWC on 5/6/2019 & rated 79 points: Grappe Piemonte 2, vin 4:

Från Serraboella i Neive, en vingård som ofta ger strukturerade och kraftfulla Barbaresco. Gjort på gamla stockar. Producent som gått från modern till en mer klassisk stil.

Vinet har tyvärr en obehaglig reduktiv doft, något man inte hittar i Nebbiolo så ofta, påminner om dålig andedräkt i doften. Blir bättre med tid i glaset men försvinner inte helt.

Munkänslan är det inget fel på, stram och sträv i stilen med kraftfulla tanniner. (1042 views)
Tasted by Voodoo_Champagne on 11/27/2018: Decanted for 1 hour, nose peculiar, some gasoline or bad wood, not very nice, it did not disappear, taste somehow metallic, no fruit just massive train of wood and gasoline with metallic notes!
Still have two bottles, will be back in 5 years!! (2138 views)
Tasted by jpbach13C on 4/23/2018 & rated 75 points: not corked but flawed. powerful nose of pungent rotting meat. palate very nicely balanced. too bad. (2279 views)
Tasted by jeanclaude on 4/23/2018 & rated 93 points: I like this wine. I had two bottles and both now gone. Kind of bummed because even though I drank them a year apart I wish I had more. Nice slight bricking in the glass at the rim. Notes of leather and spice, exotic. Good mouthful, med to full bodied but not opaque. Rich but with plenty of tannins to carry much further. Great with food. Gets better with air time. Currants, semi ripe berries. Delicious. Has a long life ahead. Only going to improve. (2420 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 11/21/2017 & rated 88 points: I think TheNeuroticDobermann note from May of this year says it very well, only I thought the wine described wasn't nearly as enjoyable as he did (or offered the long term potential he did -- though this is harder to judge), I found the wine devoid of fruit (which I don't think is ever a good thing), the non-fruit palate profile was odd and unbecoming... not a re-buy for me... notwithstanding, I will hope that I find that my decision on rebuy was a mistake when I try the other bottle I own in 15 years or later (2722 views)
Tasted by TheNeuroticDobermann on 5/1/2017 & rated 95 points: Decanted. This is an excellent Barbaresco, in a traditional style, that focuses, for once, on the balsamic, bitter, and mineral side of the Nebbiolo grape, with no concessions to sweetness of fruit. Brooding, austere nose of licorice, rhubarb, new leather, sanguinello peel, goudron, myrtle-orange, slate, garrigue, dark earth, dusty cherries. Restrained, elegant, aristocratic on the palate, with the bitterness and herbaceousness at the forefront: here we have again plenty of balsam, rhubarb, licorice, bitter and aromatic herbs, a full mineral hit, aromatic wood, and brooding, underripe sour cherries. Excellent, steely, restrained finish. Poised and feminine acidity, tannins already very much under control. Drinking phenomenally well now, perhaps thanks to the warm and approachable vintage. This will probably last another three decades. Highly recommended and very good value (though it's certainly not a cheap bottle). (2725 views)
Tasted by Seth Rosenberg on 5/29/2016 & rated 92 points: This was decanted about 2 hours before I got to it - I wish I could have tried it on opening. Needs time, nose it deep and brooding but shows tar, licorice, spices, mint/herbs, deep dark fruit, some heat - a bit of roasted aspect. Palate is ripe with good structure - leather, tar, bitter, deep fruit that has a nice roundness and depth. Somewhat hard to assess but I tend to think the Produttori style is superior: more balanced and based on finesse. 16+/20 with 16.5-17/20 potential. (3389 views)
Tasted by Eric Guido on 5/21/2016 & rated 97 points: What a tremendous bouquet on the 2010 Vecchie Vigne, as sweet floral and spice gave way undergrowth and musk. Strawberry, rose and sweet tobacco came forward with time along with a savory richness. On the palate, silky textures combined with fine tannin and acidity to create a perfectly balanced experience, as tart cherry, spice and sweet herbs were complicated by savory minerality. The finish was long on dried cherry, as the wine’s fine tannin seemed to deeply saturate the senses yet somehow remained fresh and lively. This is a gorgeous Barbaresco. (3591 views)
Tasted by deetz on 1/29/2016: I think this bottle suffered some heat damage as it sat out in 78-80 °F weather for a couple weeks during a move, so I will not formally rate it. That being said, it still was a pleasant wine to drink. Characteristic notes of dried rose petals, terracotta. Hints of strawberry, but fruit felt pretty faded (for this age), which is why I suspect this wine wasn't drinking as it would have otherwise. The palate was full and had a really nice mouth-coating feel that stuck around with purpose. I would give this wine 87 points from my bottle, but will certainly keep my eye out for another opportunity to try this juice. (2242 views)
Tasted by Norm52 on 1/12/2016: Need time to air, drank a1/3 first day and the second day is best (2044 views)
Tasted by NostraBacchus on 11/24/2015 & rated 96 points: Wow! Still a little reticent but super expressive, elegant and complex notes of dark sweet dark red cherries, sweet spices, tar, crushed flowers, menthol, licorice and some earthy notes. It's full-bodied but without any heaviness, has high tannin that is top-notch quality, and pretty high acidity providing freshness. Long and complex finish. A fantastic Barbaresco of the very highest Level. It will still need a few years in bottle to open up even more but this is really really good stuff! (3054 views)

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
