Community Tasting Notes (average 93.2 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 6 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by EMAZurich on 8/2/2021 & rated 94 points: Die Nase wird langsam ledriger, getrocknete Rosenblätter, Veilchen, Lavendel, Gewürznelke.

(713 views)

(830 views)
Tasted by EMAZurich on 12/24/2016 & rated 94 points: Jungs, Mädels... vielleicht liegt es ja an meinem Eiskeller aber das bitte ganz nach hinten in den Keller legen!

Tiefschwarz. Umwerfende Veilchennase. Am Gaumen zu, nein, ZU! Dicht gepackt, konzentriert, stramme Säure, beissende (aber sehr feingliedrige) Tannine... Frucht irgendwo im Hintergrund erahnbar..

Eben, ganz nach hinten damit! Zwischen die 10er Barolos und die 10er Bordeaux... (1537 views)
Tasted by L-C. on 4/2/2016: Very perfumed. Sweet nose, cooked plums, Very perfumed. Sweet nose, cooked plums, with floral Overlay of violets and dried flower petals. Medium body, not heavy. Tannins that are a bit coarser than velvet. Could use some more years to round off. (1569 views)
Tasted by thor_orsby on 7/24/2015 & rated 92 points: Great example: tobacco, leather around a black cherry-ish core. Good acidity, not mouthwatering but holds the balance nicely. Super fine, gripping tannins that somehow keep you coming back. Darker style, no high notes to speak of, but really good. Could cellar 3 more years. (1886 views)
Tasted by The Guzz on 1/16/2015 & rated 92 points: Concentrated, brooding Barbaresco. Dark, rich, wood, profile upon first opening. Dark cherry, spicy licorice, cabernet aromas? Would not guess this as nebbiolo if tasted blind. (1552 views)

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
