Community Tasting Notes (average 92 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 31 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by VlgJeff on 1/11/2023 & rated 93 points: PnP, as we were uncertain as to this wine's progress (previous TNs with any info are 2 and 3 years old). To our positive surprise, this wine has progressed very well. In fact, we delayed dinner for 30 minutes so that the wine could aerate, at which time the wine was smoother and more balanced than initially.
The color was a deep purple to a medium purple rim. Lots of dark fruits and some earth on the nose. The medium to plus bodied palate showed blue and black fruits, some dark red fruits (which increased as the wine gained more air), spice, and touches of chocolate, coffee and earth. The acidity was up to the job of balancing all these flavors and any tannins were completely integrated. This wine should hold for several more years. (362 views)

Tasted by Stevere on 8/18/2019 & rated 94 points: Deep dark burgundy color and a blueberry nose lead to a flavor of intense dark fruit. Balance is good with the fruit covering the tannins and heat under control. This is a very well made wine. (1223 views)
Tasted by mpsocal on 5/27/2019 & rated 92 points: Another excellent wine. This has tons of fruit and I noticed a bit of spice on the back end. It’s got some tannins too. Overall an excellent syrah. (998 views)
Tasted by brianofthevine on 3/27/2018 & rated 93 points: Beautiful wine here. Nice creamy texture of flavors up front with the fruit profile of blackberries, boysenberries, and plums. Nice core of black licorice, mocha, and cracked pepper. Nicely balanced, smooth tannins on the long finish. (1495 views)
Tasted by bbcc66 on 10/22/2017 & rated 89 points: Decanted 2 hrs. Dark fruit nose. Nice, smooth dark fruit tastes with a peppery finish. Wasn't quite as vivid a other TH wines we've had. Need to monitor temperature in cooler it's aged in. (1323 views)
Tasted by millerarner on 9/15/2017 & rated 93 points: Agree with the others, this is a good one. Many enjoyable aspects and will give pleasure both now & long term, depending on how old you like 'em. Even with aeration & decanting, needs at least an hour for the nose to fully awaken. (1028 views)
Tasted by The Wine Write on 8/12/2017 & rated 92 points: PNP. Juicy plum fruit, mouth coating texture, and a long, pleasing finish. (876 views)
Tasted by suburbanfrog on 3/6/2017 & rated 94 points: A very elegant style with layers of flavors on the palate without over extraction all ending with a long finish. The nose lent itself to the enjoyment of swirling and sniffing. Great wine. (1169 views)
Tasted by The Wine Write on 1/28/2017 & rated 92 points: PNP, drank over 2 nights. Dark garnet color. Deep, rich red fruit aromatics. On the palate, red fruit, licorice, and spice. Creamy texture on the front end, but finishes with a bit of acid backbone. Life still left, but very enjoyable now. (814 views)
Tasted by mpsocal on 8/2/2015 & rated 91 points: Excellent wine. Big fruit with some tannins. Blueberry and cherry on the palate. Nice acidity, nice finish. (1573 views)
Tasted by wine247365 on 6/14/2015: Big PR Syrah flavor profile. Very tasty. (1449 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
