Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 14 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ArtF on 2/13/2018 & rated 93 points: Deep crystalline ruby color. Expressive nose of sweet cherry lifts from glass upon opening. Palate is smooth, vibrant cherry, almost candied, young Burgundy-like mocha, hint of licorice, smooth acidity. Some drying tannins after 30 minutes. Seems at peak. (1124 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 9/3/2017 & rated 91 points: Coravin bottle from 2 months ago. I think it gets a little air and improves short term. (1127 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 6/17/2017 & rated 93 points: Much better bottle than 3 months ago. Crystalline ruby color. Bright red fruits on nose and palate. Smooth acidity, no tannins, very balanced. Light to medium bodied. Perfect with antipasto or pasta with a fresh tomato sauce. (1244 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 5/19/2017 & rated 91 points: Deep ruby with pink rim. Less fruit and acid than prior bottles. A bit of drying tannins for complexity as soon as poured. Well balanced. Can last but probably won't in my cellar. (1190 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 3/24/2017 & rated 86 points: Medium deep ruby with pink glints. More acid than tannin. Slippery legs on glass and mouth. Not much better than young CdR. Seems shut down. Update: decanted overnight. Much better. Smooth, balanced light bodied red, refreshing acidity, sour cherry, drying tannins. Can last I think 4-5 years more, easily. (1228 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 2/3/2017 & rated 88 points: Deeper red than previous bottles. Still juicy. Acidity and bright fruit made this bottle sweet-sour. Drying tannins as soon as poured makes me think it will be better balanced 4-6 months when the fruit subsides. (674 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 1/18/2017 & rated 91 points: Ruby with glints of lipstick red. Drying tannins after 60 minutes. Seemed similar to a medium bodied Beaujolais cru. (627 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 12/25/2016 & rated 86 points: Fruit has faded. Not sure if off bottle or closed or past prime. (582 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 7/21/2016 & rated 90 points: Crystalline red shaded to pink at rim. Some fine sediment noticeable in bottle. Drinking well with pretty candy apple fruit balanced with drying tannins. (756 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 4/18/2016 & rated 90 points: Better after being opened 60 minutes for all components to settle down and integrate on palate. (847 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 4/16/2016 & rated 92 points: Garnet/purple in glass. Juicy black grapes on palate makes this a great quaff, but far from rustic, with minerals, mellow acidity, and earthy, dusty tannins. Medium finish. Best at cellar temp. Transformed a simple cold antipasto with crusty bread from an appetizer into a prologue. Has balance and complexity to last several more years. (771 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 4/11/2016 & rated 91 points: Deep ruby with purple glints. Palate of juicy dark grapes first 60 minutes. Drying tannins, earthy, minerals, very balanced after fruit faded. (788 views)
Tasted by Bandreas on 4/9/2016: Dark red color, earthy nose and taste.
A Dolcetto of the old school.
Not a very elegant wine but it went well with the hearty food in the "Kornkeller " restaurant in Berne (959 views)
Tasted by victoria_isabelle on 4/23/2015 & rated 88 points: 2: Dekantert i halvannen tine. Noe mindre utpreget fruktighet, men mer avslepne tanninner. Fortsatt godt med jordbær og moreller, men noe mindre syrefriskhet. Burde kunne fungere fint til lettere retter!

1: Fin lengde og struktur, dyp rød. Moreller og røde bær i munn, fin lengde. Noe spisse tanninner innledningsvis, bør dekanteres lengre neste gang. (965 views)

Dolcetto

Varietal character (Appellation America)

Dolcetto, a northern Italian varietal from the Piedmont region, is a lighter bodied red. This wine is fruity and means 'little sweet one' in Italian. Some will opt to put a slight chill on it. Perfect with Mediterrean cuisine such as grilled meats and vegetables. Enjoy as a summertime delight. from (Woodward Canyon website)

Alba

Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Roero

Alba is a town and comune of Piedmont, Italy, in the province of Cuneo. It is considered the capital of the hilly area of Langhe, and is famous for the white truffle, peach and wine production. Piedmont is in the Northwestern region of Italy, bordering France and Switzerland. Piedmont is predominantly a plain where the water flows from the Swiss and French Alps to form the headwaters of the Po river. The major wine producing areas are in the southern portion of the region in the hills known as the "Langhe". Here the people speak a dialect that is 1/3 French and 2/3 Italian that portrays their historical roots. Their cuisine is one of the most creative and interesting in Italy. Nebbiolo is the King grape here, producing Barolo and Barbaresco. In addition, the Barbera and Dolcetto are the workhorse grapes that produce the largest quantity of wine. Piedmont is predominantly a red wine producing area. There are a few whites made in Piedmont, and the Moscato grape produces a large volume of sweet, semi-sweet and sparkling wines as well.
