Tasted by Joelene on 3/6/2022 & rated 92 points: Great showing here. Drinking very nicely. This bottle had all the same notes of the last but with a distinct V8 juice thing, thing celery,
Carrot and tomato juice with some creaminess in the middle and a more robust finish. (685 views)
Tasted by Joelene on 1/24/2022 & rated 91 points: Nice, leather, spice, black cherry and prune…really started to open up and flesh out after 2
hours… (689 views)
Tasted by lavila@avilamadrid.com on 2/18/2020: Me gustó (1386 views)
Tasted by Josch48 on 10/4/2019 & rated 94 points: Cellared well with respectable level of ullage and no wine rising past the cork bottom. Brick orange ribbon st the edge with deep red opaque color reflecting heavily concentrated components despite the vagaries of the vintage. Beautiful nose with strict varietal representation. Heavily concentrated flavor with a very slight thinning out and dryness mid palate due to clinging tannins. Lovely vanilla notes with profile resembling Napa floor heavies. Tannins cling to the gums and teeth with the Madasgar vanilla soaring over the perfectly balanced luscious fruit, and acid. My last 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon from selective buying on a classical musician’s income. Another wonderful liquid time capsule memory. Must visit the winery on next pilgrimage. (1488 views)
Tasted by chatters on 7/26/2019: On the nose leather, saline, a little gamey with black cherry and blackcurrant cordial. With time some minerality, a touch of mint, tobacco and sou bois. In the mouth the fruit has a touch of kirsch and Ribena with a slightly salty quality. Mid palate tannic grip is slightly drying. I served this at cellar temperature which helped the alcohol. Pretty much singing, for me, at this age. Lovely. (1608 views)
Tasted by chatters on 6/26/2018: Coravin fun - new arrivals (KC's place): From Coravin. Initially this was a bit offish with concentrated and ripe fruit; blackberry, cherry and blackcurrant married to chocolate, vanilla and a fair whack of age and slight oxidation, leather and sweet spice. Quite raisined on the palate, plenty of alcohol, grippy, floury tannins, concentrated, dense and very, very long. This is bit of a beast regardless...

With time it becomes far more harmonious on the nose, the raised quality of the fruit dissipates and this turns into a pretty fine, mature, Californian Cabernet. I think a meeting with a decanter and some smoked brisket will be this wine's apogee. Yum (1675 views)
Tasted by jtaylor3 on 3/20/2015 & rated 89 points: Pop and pour. Big beautiful berry nose. Weaker on the palate not matching bouquet. Definitely reaching the end. Still enjoyable but drink up (3810 views)
Tasted by timbobwhite on 9/21/2014 & rated 90 points: Long decant. Too long? Nose was more complex on opening. After 2-3/4 hrs. it seemed a bit tired. Came back a bit over time. A solid, mature mountain cab. Good structure with mouth puckering tannins and lingering finish. Not as good as last bottle, but enjoyed. (3358 views)
Tasted by timbobwhite on 7/21/2014 & rated 92 points: 2 Hr. decant. Looks young, deep maroon to edge. Cassis, black fruits and "CA mountain cab" notes on nose. Plum, cassis, blackberry. Very rich, round with good acid and tannin to balance. Lingering finish with a sweet note at the very end. Tannins emerging again at 3-1/2 hours. Excellent value. In a good place now, but would hold for 2-5 years with good cellaring. (3376 views)
Tasted by thecure on 3/23/2014 & rated 90 points: Excellent wine - glad we cellared this cab for 10 years! Decanted about an hour before dinner - enjoyed with filet mignon. Still had fruit filled nose and hearty mouth feel - touch of licorice in the finish. Held its own throughout entire meal including dessert! (3706 views)
Tasted by Tom Myers on 3/8/2014 & rated 91 points: Needed about 2 hours in the decanter but the wait was worth it! (3244 views)
Tasted by ddvo on 11/4/2012 & rated 92 points: Have tried several bottles since purchase and always felt was too tannic until now. Drinking beautifully now like an aged cab should. (3068 views)
Tasted by Tarrant on 8/26/2012 & rated 91 points: This was excellent, a touch of heat belying the 14.5 alc on the label, but it was simply delicious and perfect with our steaks tonight - Dark, full bodied with a nose of blackfruit, plum, cherry, mocha and vanilla, very well structured and balance, complex and delicious, dusty, sweet on the palate with excellent length, nice! (91 Points). (2510 views)
Tasted by gpatramanis on 6/11/2012 & rated 89 points: An absolute monster for an 03. Still way too tight for my liking. A couple hrs in the decanter and still never really opened up properly. Not sure if more time in the bottle would help or not. (2491 views)
Tasted by ub40guy on 6/11/2012 & rated 90 points: A solid effort from Mount Veeder. Good nose, a little tight, but blossomed over 4 hours of decanting. Dark fruits, dried flowers, cigar box. Tannins were quite firm until half way through the bottle. Served out of magnum. (2349 views)
Tasted by WineHawkeye on 3/3/2012 & rated 84 points: Gone. Not corked, perhaps victim of some pre-acquisition sub-optimal storage. The fruit was gone, the heat, tannins, and bite persisted from open through decant and on and on. Could not blow off the alcohol and heat nor find any fruit or noticeable earth tones/flavors either. Not the typical quality and sophistication that we find from this maker so do not be too swayed by this outlier review as it stunned us too. 84- (2626 views)
Tasted by WAWINEFAN on 2/24/2012 & rated 90 points: Very nice bottle. Well integrated and smooth. Ready to drink. (1517 views)
Tasted by 11mcraig on 10/5/2011 & rated 91 points: - Garnet color with medium forming legs and aromas of smokey. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of raspberry, blackberry and black currant with a medium body. Polished texture with a medium finish - Vanilla, fig on the nose. (2165 views)
Tasted by BodegaDan on 8/18/2011 & rated 83 points: Maybe it was the little bottle syndrome (drank from 375ml) but this was really brittle and disappointing. So long, I held you too long... (2561 views)
Tasted by ericchen0121 on 6/12/2011 & rated 91 points: Nose has blackberries, tobbacco and dark fruit. Well integrated and good balance of soft palate feel and a bit of grippy tannic structure. Opened it o. He advice of others who wrote in late 2010/early 2011 of the wine coming into it's own now, and e community didn't disappoint.

Looming forward to having this tonight with a bone in petite filet at Bobo's in San Francisco! (2711 views)
Tasted by Malia Ten Yulna on 4/4/2011: popped and had my usual sample - nice tannin/silk integration will let it sit for an hour definite tobacco and leather, but not strong - subtle but noticeable -
after hour or so, tannins were present but not strong - good lean filet wine at this point - lot of life left - drinking well (3348 views)
Tasted by Grape Stuff on 3/7/2011 & rated 91 points: Pop and pour. Has really come into it's own and drinking very well right now. Great flavors of black plum skin, red cherry, subtle smokey spice and a hint of vanilla cream. Tannins are still present, but very much better integrated than 12-24 months ago. An intriguing walnut note on the finish. An excellent/outstanding veeder cab.90-91 (3007 views)
Tasted by kingboo on 1/16/2011 & rated 92 points: Complex, dark fruit and a touch of smokiness. Lingering finish. Classic Veeder cab. (3184 views)
Tasted by ArizonaWineGuy on 10/23/2010 & rated 89 points: Drinking quite nice right now. Black plumb, cherries, chocolate and coffee. Very dry, nicely integrated tannins. Probably several tears left, and may peak in a year. Definitely drinking the best I've had it so far. (3468 views)
Tasted by pdadams66 on 10/6/2010 & rated 90 points: Deep red center.
Great cassis nose.
Full body, plums rather than blackcurrant in the mouth, dry, tannins still present but well integrated. Good length and balance.
Drinking very well now, better than expected. (3558 views)

2003 Mount Veeder Winery Cabernet Sauvignon

Alcohol: 14.5%

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
