| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.1 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 13 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by caesar77 on 3/15/2022 & rated 90 points: Deep garnet color with purple-red edge. Nose of cherries and sweet earth. On the palate: cherries, sweet tobacco and baking spice. Tannins are finally integrated and this is drinking really well right now--just the right amount of grip without being obtrusive. Tannins perceived on cheeks and gums. Medium-to-long finish of sour cherry and sweet earth. (1025 views) | | Tasted by finlero on 5/6/2020 & rated 94 points: After an hour of air, a truly outstanding, traditional CCR. Nose of plum, leather. On the palate, raw black and red fruit, a bit of brown sugar, a hint of wet earth. Chewy tannins, medium finish. Nicely structured, great sense of place. At just over $20, phenomenal QPR.
NB there appear to be several different labels for this wine, which makes me wonder if these CT reviews might actually be for several different wines; my bottles have a sans-serif font and a drawing of a unicorn and foal: https://cdn.ct-static.com/labels/fe1d8aac-0d3a-45db-9374-b3473369caca.jpg (2518 views) | | Tasted by nisid on 4/20/2020 & rated 91 points: Drinking quite well at the moment. Paired exquisitely with oxtail ragu. Plenty of structure to match a hearty meal. Still has plenty of life. (2158 views) | | Tasted by EdKz@comcast.net on 6/29/2019 & rated 90 points: brick, light body, mild aromas of red berries, tastes of raspberry and dried tobacco, beautiful balance, excellent acid for more years ahead (2229 views) | | Tasted by jsternh on 5/2/2019 & rated 90 points: Beautiful example of a chianti riserva at a great age. Starts with a raspberry cream nose then goes a dry lengthy finish with hints of vanilla, tobacco, and oak. Have this slightly chilled with meat on the grill. (2256 views) | | Tasted by caesar77 on 2/7/2019 & rated 88 points: Still needs more time to allow the tannin and oak to integrate, but its a well-built wine. Classic sangiovese notes of sour cherry, leather and earth. Well balanced and will probably be absolutely lovely in another 5-10 years. (1028 views) | | Tasted by Baron Slick on 2/7/2019 & rated 91 points: Pretty tightly coiled this is showing only only a sliver of its potential. Shy and structured notes of dark and red berry fruit, roses, a touch of tobacco, and a kick of spice. Finally started coming around at the two hour mark. Bright, tight, juicy, and very pretty. (1761 views) | | Tasted by Double-A on 10/3/2017 & rated 93 points: Medium intensity, but very complex nose with savoury, olive tapenade, cherry, leather and spice notes. Med-full bodied, dry, ripe, and elegantwith well-balanced flavours and finish. 4.5/5 (2291 views) |
