Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 88 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 80 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Silkeyj on 3/13/2020 & rated 88 points: Still holding a nice color - deep ruby to orange at edges. Nose is leather, ripe cherry, brick and oregano. Smells its age. Palate is high acid, med alcohol, med plus tannin hints of cherry and sweet tobacco. Some of fruit has dropped out but it's still drinking alright. (892 views)
Tasted by MidLifeVices on 1/5/2013 & rated 91 points: Decanted for three hours. Impressive fruit for age of wine. Great acidity, great Chianti. (3903 views)
Tasted by allensounhein on 9/12/2012 & rated 88 points: very good and end of life for drinking
Some ppt and needed to be decanted
Had with a very spicy chili and very good color and nose
really enjoyed (4015 views)
Tasted by Henman on 1/26/2012 & rated 91 points: Decanted about ½ hour. Pleasantly mature bouquet delivering leathery notes and ripe dark fruit. Medium bodied, mellow, rather vibrant dark cherries, nice tanginess with good acidic structure, obvious leathery and funky notes. Very classic nicely aged chianti. Singing beautifully now. Drink or hold for a couple of years. (4406 views)
Tasted by esb on 10/6/2011: Problems. This is showing classic signs of heat damage, old stains on the cork, bottle variation and bitter wood/stem tannin on the finish. Not good second day. Drained. (4422 views)
Tasted by esb on 9/8/2011 & rated 90 points: Mature, medium intensity aroma of slightly roasted tar and leather with no primary fruit except perhaps aged plum/prune. In the mouth, soft, medium weight, very even, almost silky but fades slightly at the finish. Not quite as bright as some CC but good balance and refreshing. The is in a very good place now and will not improve. Lovely wine. (3743 views)
Tasted by jsums on 3/31/2011 & rated 89 points: Full ruby color with bricking rim. Complex nose: ripe raspberry and redcurrant with balsamic vinegar, anise, cedar, tobacco, and a hint of barnyard. Medium body on the palate: intense raspberry and redcurrant fruit framed by tobacco, anise, and graphite. Core of bright, fresh acidity. Moderate dusty, chalky tannins. Lingering chalk and graphite on the moderate/long finish. Lovely, classically-styled Sangiovese. Drink now. (1570 views)
Tasted by friezu on 3/11/2011: Consistent with previous notes. (3472 views)
Tasted by up4wine on 12/8/2010 & rated 88 points: Last bottle of this vintage. Same general notes as before, but I sense the wine is beginning to fade a bit. The nose is not as big and does not have quite the Sangiovese intensity I described in bottles consumed a year ago. (1606 views)
Tasted by friezu on 11/28/2010 & rated 88 points: Found on sale at Sam's Club today for $9 - a bargain. The cork was almost completely soaked through but luckily the wine was unharmed. Starting to turn slightly brown at the edges. Sangiovese astringency is forefront but this isn't as drying as heavier Chianti's. Bizarre nose of leather, turpentine, and raspberries. The leather and raspberries come through on the palate with some sour cranberry as well. Everything here is nice but would score higher if it was more concentrated. (3731 views)
Tasted by up4wine on 6/8/2010 & rated 89 points: Continues to be a fine wine for enjoyment with meats and vegetables. Tasting notes are same as previous. I continue to be impressed with the Sangiovese earthy/leathery nose of this vintage. (1784 views)
Tasted by Archetype67 on 5/16/2010 & rated 89 points: Surpisingly good with an excellent Tuscan style pizza (1830 views)
Tasted by Craigrow on 3/27/2010 & rated 90 points: My last bottle î˜ (4235 views)
Tasted by amgryger on 3/2/2010: NY/NJ WLTV Offline (Fabio's NYC): so very much brett.... (5132 views)
Tasted by up4wine on 2/25/2010 & rated 89 points: The nose continues to outshine the palate on this wine. Rating consistent with bottle in Sep.09. (1859 views)
Tasted by nittanyjack on 1/11/2010 & rated 84 points: This wine is a little confounding in that every whiff and every taste yielded something different, but here goes: lt-med body with a color that seems deep enough to promise a little more than it delivers. At first, cherries on the nose, eventually giving way to some earth and leather, and even a little glycerine. On the palate, tart cherries with a decent level of acid. After all that, a rather short disappointing finish. There are better Chiantis out there at this price point. (4357 views)
Tasted by jrwhitney6 on 12/31/2009 & rated 85 points: ok - found a little thin/lacking structure. some notes of chocolate. (3481 views)
Tasted by campvin on 12/28/2009: Chistmas 2009 dinner (3827 views)
Tasted by Glasshalfempty on 12/26/2009 & rated 80 points: A little too dry for my taste. (3502 views)
Tasted by bamhome on 12/1/2009 & rated 87 points: Drank in Alisal. (3685 views)
Tasted by eastover on 11/13/2009: Friday night before Danny's Bar Mitzvah. Mom, Dad, Herb, Elaine and Ellie - come for Lasagna after services. Wine a good pairing - but just "ok" nothing special. Decanted from 4:30 - drunk @ 7:30. (2005 views)
Tasted by Ombibulous on 10/6/2009 & rated 84 points: Tasted then used for cow femur bone stew! Yyummaaaaay! (As James Carey would say.) The wine is still nice and dry. Good old world style (no fruit). Very good (84.5). (3749 views)
Tasted by up4wine on 9/20/2009 & rated 89 points: Drinking extremely well right now. The nose is classic Sangiovese and it just keeps coming out bigger and bigger as it opens up. I couldn't get enough of it. The taste is really good, but does not quite keep up with the aroma. There was good balance and enough fruit to keep the finish long, but it was not as sweet and rounded as a truly outstanding Chianti. I am glad I have a few more. The son deemed it an 88. (2070 views)
Tasted by DTWOB on 9/5/2009 & rated 88 points: Popped, decanted and poured. Light color, fruity nose, light and lively. (2177 views)
Tasted by gbm on 9/4/2009 flawed bottle: Very disappointed, but what can I expect after a week on the counter in 80 degree heat. Smelled like cardboard. Tasted like carbonated vinegar. (3882 views)

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
