Community Tasting Notes (average 91.9 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 18 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by BoxerBee on 12/25/2022 & rated 89 points: Fruity, with cherry, dried red berries and cinnamon. Relatively simple, but balanced and highly drinkable. Drink now (821 views)
Tasted by ChristopherB on 8/7/2022 & rated 92 points: From a half-bottle - cork in tip-top shape. Double decanted. Nice very dark though not completely opaque ruby colour. On the nose, open aromas of esteva, liquorice, and black fruit (grapes, cherries). A touch of smoke and other herbal aromas as well. On the palate, the attack is frank, sweetish, with the aromas as found on the nose, lots of firm yet rounded tannin, and a good length. I have had several vintages from other producers that weren't as "vintage-like" as this LBV - it really is impressive! Still young - I'd say this could easily be enjoyed another 10 years. 91-92 (952 views)
Tasted by empire80 on 11/21/2021 & rated 91 points: As noted below, it's worth decanting as the extended bottle age has formed a small sediment, but not essential if careful. Really quite classy, still some of the primary sweet fruit you'd expect from an LBV, but balanced with some mature notes, including a hint of chocolate and ground coffee. (1439 views)
Tasted by ChristopherB on 12/30/2020 & rated 90 points: From a half-bottle. Double decanted. Nice dark ruby. Fairly dark, but not opaque. On the nose, somewhat timid aromas of black fruits (cherries, grapes, raisins) matched with some liquorice, smoke and black pepper. On the palate a sweet frank attack of a wonderful density and intensity for this price range with a good length. I may have preferred it in its youth, for its over-the-top snapping black fruit, but this is still young, not showing any signs of fading and with a nice balance - needs a few hours to open up and is quite nice on day 2. It would be interesting for me to drink up my 2007s and keep my last 2011 till 2025 or so. 90 or so.

Drunk over two days and it was at its best on day 2. (1965 views)
Tasted by JakobSkou on 6/2/2020: Fantastic lbv.. Tastes like a 15-20 year old vintage. Very good quality and good value for money. (2355 views)
Tasted by bacchus of knockholt on 5/23/2020 & rated 91 points: Unlike most LBV it needs a decant. Inky black with damson, plum, blueberry, spice. The palate is rich and luscious with blueberry, blackberry, blackcurrant, liquorice, spices and black pepper. Deep and intense wine for an LBV (1876 views)
Tasted by Caruso on 3/1/2020 & rated 93 points: No detailed notes. Bottled in 2016 this is still young but already enjoyable. Great potential and future. 5/12/17+/9+. + (2102 views)
Tasted by ThalesGaspar on 8/25/2018 & rated 91 points: Same as previous bottle, really good. (3199 views)
Tasted by ThalesGaspar on 4/1/2018 & rated 91 points: This is quite nice, very well balanced. (2858 views)
Tasted by BobMilton on 10/26/2017 & rated 94 points: Rich, dark fruited, just a bit of sweetness - in other words, an excellent port! (2114 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 10/14/2016: Unfiltered. Delicate plum and raisin palate. Light tannin and some spice on the nose and palate. (2617 views)
Tasted by marko2016 on 9/15/2016 & rated 96 points: @Quinta do Noval: dark ruby color, dried fruits, figs, spices - clove, perfectly balanced, extra long finish

The wine is made only with the grapes from Quinta do Noval vineyards. It is considered to be a baby vintage since in contrast with the standard LBVs it can age well in a bottle for a decade or 2. The great plus which will certainly add to its complexity is that the wine is not filtered.

On top of all the things mentioned it offers an excellent QPR and you get to drink one of the best years on record.

I would keep it in my cellar for the years to come.

Port Blend

Over a hundred varieties of grapes (castas) are sanctioned for port production, although only five (Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional) are widely cultivated and used.
