Community Tasting Notes (average 90.1 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 130 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Lord Marc on 11/27/2023 & rated 90 points: This was very nice and ready to drink now, a little sediment I would filter no decanting needed. Full bodied, mild tannins, fruit was balanced you could taste some dark cherries, wild berries and some char from the oak. If you have some try it now, will add more to my cellar. (632 views)
Tasted by awever on 11/9/2022 & rated 91 points: Sehr süffig, dunkle Früchte, Lang, ohne die ganz große Raffinesse, macht aber sehr viel Spaß! (1813 views)
Tasted by wino121 on 7/26/2022 & rated 92 points: Spot on from my notes in 2018,
Needed 4 years in the cellar and it has evolved into a classic Napa cab, nice to see old school winemaking still works.
Fruit with structured tannins working well together at this point.
Really nice now thru 2025-7 (2010 views)
Tasted by rjm on 2/1/2022 & rated 90 points: In a very good place (for what it is). (2542 views)
Tasted by rjm on 11/22/2021 & rated 88 points: Improving, although still a little flat. (2663 views)
Tasted by Arch57 on 9/13/2021 & rated 92 points: I had a Coravin taste back in 2017 and my notes said wait 3-5 years so sure enough 4 years later I uncorked this and it was transformed into a prototypical Napa Cab that delivered smooth cassis notes with cedar on the nose and a pleasant finish. Nice to find this older school wine making in a mid-priced bottling that needs cellar time. Seems like to many winemakers are pushed into producing wines for instant gratification but hey that's likely where the money is at. (2676 views)
Tasted by WineJ2019 on 12/3/2020 & rated 90 points: Middle of the fairway Cali Cab. Nice rich flavors with oak finish; full bodied and a fine match with teriyaki beef. Not a special / “wow” wine but drinking well. (2997 views)
Tasted by vincemcd61 on 11/20/2020 & rated 91 points: Had with pizza (2759 views)
Tasted by awever on 11/8/2020 & rated 92 points: Napa pur, macht sehr viel Spaß (2521 views)
Tasted by A&C on 10/31/2020 & rated 83 points: Something is seriously odd about this wine. Green, bitter, and strange flavors swirling around. Couldn't even finish the first glass. My friend said "hmm". (2339 views)
Tasted by Wine Lover 1964 on 10/8/2020 & rated 94 points: Complex and still with life of tannins and some acidity. Decanted 1 hr and improved over 2hrs. Classic Mondavi Napa cab. (2374 views)
Tasted by Steve Baxter on 9/4/2020 & rated 88 points: Nice, did not decant and should have. Lots of sediment (1775 views)
Tasted by kvswine on 8/19/2020 & rated 91 points: Even though this bottle was stored outside of the cellar it still was delicious. There is something about a well made wine that can withstand time. (1743 views)
(1758 views)
Tasted by vincemcd61 on 7/3/2020 & rated 91 points: Nice solid wine. Had with Prima’s Bella pizza (1815 views)
Tasted by esw423 on 6/1/2020 & rated 93 points: Improving greatly with age. This is drinking very nicely right now. (2072 views)
Tasted by rjm on 2/20/2020 & rated 85 points: Fruit is a bit flat, as are the tannins. Everyday / BBQ red here (regretting my case purchase). (2506 views)
Tasted by Tahlequahdave1972 on 2/6/2020 & rated 92 points: Rated 92 by JS and 91 WS. Slow ox for an hour and consumed over the following three. Deep violet in the glass and quite aromatic with red rose pedals most prominent. Smooth, rich, and full mouthfeel delivering flavors of black & blue fruits, cherry, mocha and toasted caramel. Well-balanced and appealing with a generous, moderately long finish. Recommend a minimum one hour decant. Very enjoyable wine with years of life ahead. (2472 views)
Tasted by rickfell-new on 1/30/2020 & rated 92 points: Love it! (2352 views)
Tasted by tplskylrk on 1/4/2020: Rockin on the P&P, delicious lush fruit, blueberry creme Cali Napa Cab fruit. DAy two more austere, secondary flavors coming through. Sweetness gone and more drying finish. Can drink now w no decant, or decant for an hour, and should be in the fun house for 5 years, then into second life after that. (2455 views)
Tasted by wineotim on 12/24/2019 & rated 91 points: This bottle was consistent with my first. (2688 views)
Tasted by Cuellar's Cellar on 12/17/2019 & rated 92 points: Today is the day. Drink this. Very settle, and silky. Cheers (2085 views)
Tasted by Cuellar's Cellar on 11/2/2019 & rated 92 points: A perfect time to drink this. Do it now :) you count regret it :) (2082 views)
Tasted by hdgraham4 on 10/19/2019 & rated 92 points: Classic napa cab. Drank very well from the start and only got better (2157 views)
Tasted by dbenadon on 10/12/2019 & rated 92 points: Classic cab. Nothing surprising but in this case, that is perfect. Deep and satisfying, I am looking forward to how the next bottle drinks a year or two from now. (2097 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
