Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.2 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by finewinebuff57 on 12/25/2015 & rated 88 points: From a magnum. Fully mature and probably a little past its best, but in good condition. For lovers of mature white burgundy, pretty enjoyable. (1704 views)
Tasted by rikipedia on 12/7/2013 & rated 89 points: Medium to deep yellow colour, the bouquet is savoury with clear development. Minerals, wet chalk, steel wool, bay leaf with spice, clove and vanilla.
The entry is medium-bodied with a fine steely acidity underscored by a richness showing oat bran and poached pear that melts to a vanilla fudge texture. Complex and remarkably satisfying wine, the acidity rides through a smooth mid-palate towards a chalkier oatmeal porridge bowl finish. Lovely detailed wine. (319 views)
Tasted by Hotspur21 on 1/9/2013 & rated 92 points: Great showing out of a Magnum on Christmas Eve. Zesty aromas, mouth-watering ripe apples and pine apples as well as herbaceous notes. Not as creamy as others, but displaying a great minerality. Don't have it with people who aren't accustomed to this kind of wine. They didn't get it. (3078 views)
Tasted by ccn on 12/31/2011 flawed bottle: oxidized (3521 views)
Tasted by ccn on 10/28/2011 & rated 90 points: A very pretty wine -- excellent balance, minerals, good lemon-lime acidity. Good length. For Marc Colin some noticeable but well-integrated oak. (3575 views)
Tasted by Mattshank on 3/7/2010 & rated 91 points: St. Innocent Mini Tasting (Edina Country Club, MN): Nose: Lemon zest with sea shell minerals. Palate: Candied lemon with the sea shell quality present. Good acid levels provide balance. Well made. (4220 views)
Tasted by AJ72 on 2/15/2009 & rated 92 points: This is a great little wine. Floats across the tastebuds effortlessly leaving a lasting impression of flavour more than justifying it's premier cru tag. (3097 views)
Tasted by AJ72 on 12/25/2008 & rated 91 points: This was a great wine that was drinking beautifully. Great aromas of cashews, smoke, stone. Showed some of the neighbouring Chevaliers flavours albeit on a smaller scale, lovely generosity and good depth. Excellent. (1870 views)
Tasted by rarewineman on 9/28/2008 & rated 89 points: very nicely balanced with still time to grow. Not a lot of aromatics but very pleasing just the same. (1816 views)
Tasted by frapadingue on 8/14/2008 & rated 91 points: Crisp, toasty, fruity and forward. Perfect for a hot summer afternoon. Drink or hold. (2079 views)
Tasted by JSwick on 7/13/2008 & rated 89 points: Definately at its peak and maybe on the way down. Golden yellow in color with shortbread, wet earth, and almonds. Palate follows with creme brulee, caramel, and vanilla wafer hints. Nice but it might be a bit past... (1680 views)
Tasted by vine20 on 4/20/2008 & rated 89 points: Subtle nose but good fruit, some spice, citrus (lemon), minerals, and earth (stone). Very good balance with a moderate finnish. (1796 views)
Tasted by vine20 on 10/8/2007 & rated 92 points: Very smooth, complex. Good fruit (lemon and citrus) with moderate acid. (2113 views)
Tasted by rarewineman on 8/26/2007 & rated 92 points: Stunning! Meadows is right on with his score of 91. Drinking well now...this will blossom into a ravishing beauty in 3-4 years. Loaded...sneeky good. (2098 views)
Tasted by vine20 on 2/15/2007 & rated 88 points: Subdued aroma but in balance. Similarly, the initial tasting showed broad, light citrus fruit (lemon, grapefruit) and a bit of acidiity and oak, but not a strong, frontal presentation. Immediately it showed a richness associated with butter and fat. As it was open longer, fruit and acids became less obvious, but the fat level increased a bit. It was very enjoyable -- not terribly exciting. (2200 views)
Tasted by AndrewSGHall on 6/22/2005: Soft nose with peaches, cream and slight fennel. Clear oak at the top, but strong fruit body and very eager. A wine that has been manipulated to the edge of what its terroir can take, but really delicious. Medium finish, lingering faint butterscotch and nicely acidic fruit with lime and pear notes. At the cusp of modern for me, but I very much enjoyed it. Outstanding pairing (and this probably made the wine so enjoyable) of cedar-planked salmon with sorrel sauce and various cheeses (not as good pairing). (2562 views)
Tasted by DChan on 1/9/2005 & rated 89 points: This starts promisingly with a subtle minerality on the attack, but then turns a touch sour and acidic. However, I am optimistic that I either had a bad bottle or caught it in an awkward stage, as the other 2002 St. Aubins that I've had from Marc Colin have been fantastic (the "Murgers des Dents de Chien" being a particular favorite). Rockss and Fruit (7/27/2004)
(Marc Colin St. Aubin "En Remilly") The '01 of this wine was delicious and I was looking very forward to the '02 so here is the verdict. Touch of oak, orange rind, lemon zest, zippy minerality, leesy creaminess and a touch of jalapeno. Great nose. Very aromatic and complex. A big step up in aromatic complexity over the '01. Juicy and focused with great apple, spice and concentrated fruit. Really silky texture with a finish of dried pineapple and lactic minerality. Long finish that goes on and on. Great St. Aubin. I don't know if this will keep that long. So delicious now. Acids are good but the '01 of this had much more present acids. Maybe it is hiding under all that baby fat. Great stuff.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
