Tasted by peternelson on 4/28/2024 & rated 90 points: Big, plush, oaky, oaky, oaky. Lots of ripe fruits, smooth, milkshake like. Could be amazing but way way over-oaked.

Tasted by carendt on 12/20/2022 & rated 95 points: 3 h decant. Some lovely savory notes… old world influence. (1077 views)
Tasted by jviz on 10/30/2022: Muted bottle. Some luxardo cherry and cedar but not very open. Shut down or flawed, but no detectable TCA to any taster in our group. (1254 views)
Tasted by Bobcat 31 on 2/26/2022 & rated 94 points: old world style elegant very enjoyable. (1332 views)
Tasted by handymom on 1/25/2020 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured. While a decent cabernet, definitely not worth what we paid. (2791 views)
Tasted by jimyeni on 4/9/2019 & rated 92 points: Napa April 2019; 4/6/2019-4/9/2019 (Napa, CA): Red and black fruit, expressive nose with raspberry and oak notes. Promise of the nose didn’t quite come through on the palate, leaner in style which is good but wanted it to be more smooth and supple. It was good but not $215 at the winery good. (3349 views)
Tasted by msuwine on 1/21/2019 & rated 93 points: This bright and medium-bodied Cabernet tastes like it’s a few years from its peak drinking window, but this could just as easily be what the winemaker intended. To me, it tastes a bit tart and thin - with the fruit profile and mouthfeel of a Pinot. It's still enjoyable, if a bit straightforward.

Cherry red in color, the wine offers aromas of raspberry, gravel, and fresh herbs. The tastes are more red than blue fruit - cherry, cranberry, anise, and cloves come through - with a light and acidic finish. 14% alcohol. Blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. I know some fault wineries for chasing Parker too much, but here it might have helped create a more full and ripe wine. Drink in 2020 or later, in the hopes that (for this taster at least) the wine puts on a little weight and roundness. (3842 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 1/9/2019: Winorama: A winter in Wineland III; 1/4/2019-1/13/2019 (Portland/Willamette, Eureka, Napa): Very soft and supple in nature. This is lots of darker red fruits. Cranberry and boysenberry again. Some almost cigar like notes. There's another flavor back there that is much more secondary, but balancing out the fruits. Reminds me a bit of a chicken broth - not something that stands out on its own, but can improve the flavor of that around it. And in some ways it is a bit almost more savory in nature. (3214 views)
Tasted by DawgByte on 1/18/2018 & rated 94 points: PnP. Right out of the gate this Blankiet Proprietary Red jumped out of the glass with an intense bouquet of red fruit, baking spices and sandalwood. Beautiful nose. There's good complexity on the palate and smooth lingering finish. This wine has impressive structure and balance, with the right amount of acidity and tannins. This wine will easily age for a decade and will pick up complexity along the ride. (3005 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 1/10/2018: Winorama: A winter in Wineland II; 1/6/2018-1/14/2018 (Portland, Eureka, Napa): 85% cab, mid of merlot/cab franc/petit verdot. Lots more complexity than the Prince of Hearts which was very 'what you see is what you get'. This was still more on the smooth and easy side. Very approachable. Red currant, some pepper, some softer tannins. A wine that hints it might have a few more layers though. (2619 views)

Blankiet Estate

Producer website

Blankiet Estate is located on the western foothills of the Mayacamas mountain range over-looking Yountville in the Napa Valley of California. Created in 1996 by Claude and Katherine Blankiet, sixteen acres have been developed by renowned viticulturist David Abreu.

The vineyards, known as Paradise Hills, are stunningly beautiful with gorgeous views of the valley. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are planted on volcanic soil. Merlot is planted on a deep layer of alluvial clay deposited by streams draining the mountain range high above. Sustainable farming is practiced and the human hand is the connection between vines and wines. Our artisanal production is less than a thousand cases of a flagship proprietary red wine, Blankiet Estate, and a few hundred cases of a Saint Emilion inspired red wine named Rive Droite.

The first eight vintages were made by the legendary Helen Turley. Then Martha McClellan-Levy took over winemaking with the 2006, 2007 and 2008 vintages assisted by world famous oenologist Michel Rolland. Vinification is done in a state of the art winery right on the property. One hundred percent new French oak barrels are used for every vintage. Our wines are aged on their lees for over two years and are bottled without fining or filtration.

Robert Parker validates our terroir, stating that the wines we produce “are world class, combining the extraordinary power of the site with unbelievable elegance and definition”.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
