Tasted by Alcide23 on 2/10/2024 & rated 92 points: Drank with Jue and Amie (513 views)
Tasted by MicklethePickle on 1/3/2024 & rated 90 points: Opened last night and finished today. Very nice, and a real steal when purchased in years gone by. Very deep, dark ruby color, not really showing any signs of age. Gentle but noticeable cherry fruit nose. Quite deeply flavored with smoke and black cherries. Earth, too. This is a really fine example of low-cost Burgundy. A few more years of life ahead, too. 5-11-16-8: 90/100. (723 views)
Tasted by ppandian on 10/24/2023 & rated 92 points: Enjoyed the wine tremendously. Notes of cherry and dark berries. Gently extracted tannins, well balanced, nice weight while being lithe and nimble. (871 views)
Tasted by MicklethePickle on 6/12/2023: Popped and poured. I am sure this has just a bit of cork taint. Noticeable but not so strong as to take away from the obvious charms this wine has. Taint is only apparent in the nose; the palate has a fresh cherry fruit profile that is delicate but obvious. I won't rate this b/c of the taint, but I venture to guess that at its best it would hit the low 90s. (1427 views)
Tasted by chatters on 5/19/2023: On tour with Tim and Phil day two (Beechworth and King Valley): Served Blind.
A little Bretty/meaty note up front, slight toast, red over black fruits, cherry. Juicy, tangy, tightly tannic grip is talc textured, fruit tea, cherry, touch of cola cube, youthful after the previous wines.
I guessed this was the Clos des Myglands. (1598 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 7/30/2022: Very solid bottle, and good value. The nose showed some oak initially, but this integrated and became more red fruit and mineral driven. Still very fresh and almost slightly austere on the palate. Good but not great depth. This has quite a few years ahead and based on this showing I'd recommend a decant if you open one anytime soon. (2581 views)
Tasted by Alc13%byvol on 4/10/2022 & rated 92 points: have loved this down to my last bottle (2731 views)
Tasted by nwebstar on 12/5/2021 & rated 92 points: Restrained but ever stylish and a little dry initially. Cherry and hints of darker berries with a little dark earthy and leather character. The palate broadened and sweeten after an hour or so. Quite bright acidity - many years in it. Very enjoyable. (3119 views)
Tasted by maxima on 8/12/2021 & rated 92 points: De la bien belle pinotte.
Frais et franc de gout.
Sur le noyau, les framboises, les cerises et
la canneberge avec un peu de poivre.
Belle finale assez longue sur une petite amertume.
On en redemande.
SUPERBE! (4082 views)
Tasted by probraided on 5/9/2021: Restrained after opening. I remember this being way better a year ago. Improved with air but not as good as I remember it. Give it more time in the cellar. (3171 views)
Tasted by bordeauxman777 on 4/25/2021 & rated 89 points: Over all unimpressive - quite honestly, I expected more from 1er. of a great producer. After 4 hours, this started to show balanced and somewhat decent, yet still delivering very little pleasure. (2580 views)
Tasted by angryphoton on 10/25/2020 & rated 90 points: Needs air to open up, initially a bit ripe and sweet but gained acidity and mineral notes as time went by. It is still a solar year though as the ripeness is still there, just not overblown. Dark red cherry, sweet strawberry and hints of licorice. I would lest this rest for 4-5 years to shed its baby fat before opening another one. (2268 views)
Tasted by Pancreatitis on 9/27/2020: From magnum.
Classic feminine pinosity. Spice, sandalwood, raspberry, strawberry, black cherry, mineralite , delightful. (2622 views)
Tasted by Phil Loxera on 8/24/2020: Tar and alcohol nose; coats the mouth with sour cherry and a pinch of earth. Not delicate but yum. (2385 views)
Tasted by bags on 8/6/2020: 2 hr decant, and ready to go. but has another 7-10 years easily and more development (2320 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 12/31/2019 & rated 90 points: Very agreeable - dark cherry and red licorice flavors. Could have been more complex, but the expressive fruit and impressive energy worked well. (3264 views)
Tasted by AGELVIS on 12/10/2019 & rated 90 points: Thirty minute decant. Deep ruby magenta color. Strawberry, Earl Grey tea, orange rind, damp soil and almond bark. Very smooth, dry palate, with soft, persistent acidity. The tea notes carried through from the nose. Firm tannins on the medium long finish. Solid Pinot, but a little overwhelmingly earthy/woodsy for me. (3401 views)
Tasted by Golf_Wine on 11/8/2019 & rated 92 points: This is the 10th bottle over 18 months and what a difference. First bottle almost like a bigger modern Oregon/Cali pinot noir, all over the place but good. This is more of a maturing Burgundy in it's early stages. Very nice. Red fruits are popping through an otherwise pretty big wine. (3017 views)
Tasted by Alexander Smith on 8/3/2019 & rated 92 points: Really pleasent and easy drinking Pinot with strawberries and sour cherries along with light herb and a spice component on the mid palate. Good length. Fully enjoyable now (3707 views)
Tasted by shklotz on 6/29/2019 & rated 91 points: Gorgeous wine. Lovely vibrant ruby red with a beautiful perfume. Silky smooth red cherries with a hint of spice. Enjoyed with French onion soup. (3430 views)
Tasted by norsktorsk on 6/5/2019 & rated 93 points: This is drinking very nicely. (2915 views)
Tasted by Gary on 5/3/2019 & rated 92 points: Stunning wine - punches well above weight. Blind tasting led us to Beaune and older vintage. (2814 views)
Tasted by Redguy on 3/18/2019: Feels correct but the fruit is hiding. Closed, for now. (3201 views)
Tasted by anstruletz on 3/16/2019: All of the stuffing is there but it seems to have entered a dumb phase. Will probably wait a year before opening my next bottle. If you want to drink sooner, I'd recommend a vigorous decant. (2575 views)
Tasted by PIntag on 1/9/2019 & rated 91 points: 13% abv.
Lovely nose. Succulent fruit with some earthy tones. Plenty of bright acidity. Energetic. Some tannins on the finish. Good early look at this - this has the fruit and structure to age for a long time to come. (2807 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
