Tasted by vintage_whine on 12/20/2022: straw colored, still vibrant, lactic and with fresh tones to the fruit. initially dominated by lactic tones but with 30 min of air fruit becomes vibrant and intense. highly concentrated thrilling style of chablis with a measured amount of oxidation from wood but no reliance on oak flavors. i like its confidence (280 views)
Tasted by beatles on 2/17/2019 & rated 92 points: Tasted over two days. A little bit less impressive showing than last time, this does have all the fixers in terms of bees wax, honey, minerals and also a light elegance. Seemless, and actually better on day two. This is mature, but there is no hurry. (1151 views)
Tasted by beatles on 5/21/2018 & rated 93 points: Wonderful wine. Rich with minerals, butter and citrus, a firm acidity, but in no way aggressive. Very complete, very balanced - and ready to drink, I think, but no hurry here. The rich vintage is handled very well, and while there is a gras character, it is not overwhelming.

Tasted by Mr T on 6/18/2017: Premox (1727 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 11/15/2014: bright yellow but no premox, good acid and really pretty solid Chablis...probably even better with more air...solid low 90's (3528 views)
Tasted by Milos on 6/29/2014: Bright deep yellow showing some age. The nose is citrus and lime with notes of custard and sweet fruit. Matched perfectly with lentil salad and asparagus salad with lemon and Dijon mustard dressing. Full bodied for a Chablis and long finish. (3812 views)
Tasted by Mrbuzz on 10/27/2013 flawed bottle: No pox, clean and bright yellow fruit, cut lemon citrus acidity, wonderful limestone chalk, seashore salinity, little buttered brioche......But But But....this S O B is corked!! Damn.....at least pox is somewhat expected! A non-pox corked white burgs sucks! (4244 views)
Tasted by lwolffl on 9/22/2013 & rated 90 points: Great with soup of lobster (3870 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 1/12/2011: pretty good chard/white burg...not sure realy recognize as chablis (6178 views)
Tasted by popquizkid on 6/7/2010 & rated 91 points: Buttescotch/vanilla and tropical fruits on the nose. Smelled like a new world Chardonnay. The palate has a nice hit of acidity. This two a few hours of air to smooth our. At first I was a little surprised by the nose, but eventually it came together and calmed down and was more typical Chablis a little more density than one would expect. This is still a baby. As long as this does not suffer premox I anticipate a long life ahead -- should be fantastic in 5-10 years. (4898 views)
Tasted by WST on 5/19/2010 & rated 93 points: Grand Cru density, but remarkably deft. Limestone and sea breeze on the nose, with white fruit, green apple and citrus. Steely, long finish. I've read some mildly disparaging references to the cooperative, but this Preuses and a recent Grenouilles were outstanding. (4465 views)
Merci Musigny. 90+ (3917 views)
Tasted by fandj on 10/16/2009 & rated 90 points: This was delicious, non standard (more fruit than usual), chablis. It went well with the fresh king crab legs! (3752 views)
Tasted by WST on 9/20/2009 & rated 91 points: Grand Cru density; if you like austere chablis, stay away. I loved the limestone and sea breeze on the nose. Too young to judge anyway, but low 90's seems where it's going. (3140 views)
Tasted by Neebs on 4/2/2009 & rated 85 points: competent. crisp. well balanced. lacks rich fruit flavours. (3430 views)
Tasted by Chuck Miller on 9/14/2008: Not in the least Chablis-like. Californicated. Not a good choice from Garagiste. (3332 views)

(PREUSES Chablisienne) Plethora Dear Friends, While not technically a plethora, I did enjoy the sound of the word so that is the title of our Friday send-off list. All below have perfect provenance and are at the lowest prices I can muster - some of the prices are pretty eye-popping. Have a good weekend everyone! - Jon Rimmerman ************************ Friday Focus Wine: 2005 Can Blau "Mas de Can Blau" (Spain) STRICT LIMIT 6/person Last year's 2004 Mas de Can Blau was a major hit (with Josh Raynolds as well) and the 2005 is even better. This is an extracted, large-scaled wine that is actually good. While I don't typically support wine like this, I think many of you will really enjoy it: ************************** 2006 Domaine de Chenevieres Chablis "Les Grandes Vignes" (Vielles Vignes) EXTREMELY LIMITED 2005 La Chablisienne Chablis "Le Preuses" (BH93) STRICT LIMIT 2/person This is in bottles - please be patient here. 1999 Friggiali Brunello Riserva 3.0lt (GR3) 350.00/1 (very rare bottle of hand-bottled Riserva from the best lot they had in the vintage) 2000 Fontodi Syrah Case Via 1.5lt STRICT LIMIT 2/person 2005 Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon "Pedregal Vineyard" 1.5lt (these are in perfect condition and have never sat on a store shelf - ever) 2006 Pierre Usseglio CdP "Deux Freres" Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Spain6320 Burg8860 Burg8870 Italy6831 Italy6832 CA8380 Rhone7410

(PREUSES Chablisienne) 2005 Grand Cru Dear Friends, It seems Chablis is not dead, at least from the response to last week’s La Chablisienne offer - here are two more, the crown jewels in their portfolio. I first became intrigued with La Chablisienne’s 2005 Preuses and Le Clos at a comparative vineyard tasting in Burgundy last summer and they continue to gain in strength. I was invited to a private event where all of the known wines from each vineyard were poured (along with Montmains and Vaillons) and both of these were in my top two. You can use your imagination but that means Raveneau, Dauvissat, Fevre (and others) were ranked below them. The differences in each vineyard were fairly staggering as each winery holds a certain segment of fruit that can be far different than the other (much like Batard or Chevalier where it matters greatly where in the topography the fruit is from). As an example, La Chablisienne's Preuses holding is considered the best parcel in the vineyard, especially in a new global-warming Burgundy. It is far cooler than the vines in the middle or bottom and in a vintage like 2005, you get the best of both worlds - cool tone but ripe, perfect fruit. It is an outstanding wine. The Les Clos goes without saying. If you are buying high-end white Burgundy, Chablis remains the top spot for well-priced Grand Cru fruit and both of these are very hard to find (unlike Fevre or something mass distributed). If a $50-70 wine can be a bargain, both of these qualify with room to spare. Both are VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price directly from the source with perfect provenance: 2005 La Chablisienne Chablis “Les Preuses” EXTREMELY LIMITED 2005 La Chablisienne Chablis “Les Clos” EXTREMELY LIMITED Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Burg7088 Burg7077

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

Les Preuses

Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses: The vineyards are on an exposed southwest facing slope dominating its Grand Cru neighbors. The soil is a mixture of marl and chalky Kimmeridgian.

Les Preuses covers 11.80ha and sits above Bougros on a gentle slope (bar one location which is fairly aggressively steep and stony). The topsoil is deeper than the rest and was regarded 2nd rate for this reason pre-1930. The rock is fractured and allows for very good drainage. The resulting wines have flesh without heaviness and of course minerality.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
