Tasted by Cycledoc on 12/16/2020: Brownish purple color
Cherry aromas
Cherry, with hint of coffee and pepper (763 views)
Tasted by timothynbond on 5/12/2020 & rated 86 points: Garnet with medium-deep intensity. Aromas of ripe raspberries, green herbs, and a little bit of reduction. Medium bodied with a soft mouthfeel, with a hint of cloves on the back. Surprisingly a little to no fruit. Probably past its prime but pleasant enough. I drank one glass and turned the rest into sangria. (929 views)
Tasted by DrinkMoreWine on 5/10/2020: Pretty good for an $8 bottle. Aged surprisingly well but a little musty. (827 views)
Tasted by Jaydilla on 7/8/2019 & rated 88 points: Easy drinking. Simple but satisfying. Hard to find a better wine for under $10 (1123 views)
Tasted by yurcek on 4/2/2019: nice inexpensive merlot (1140 views)
Tasted by davidrmoran on 12/11/2018 & rated 70 points: I would have been surprised if a well-made, classy, jammy-fruity slightly aged red wine ever made me recoil, but I find this simply undrinkable. It has to be due to sickening type overfamiliarity from 30-40y ago, which resulted in that memorable movie line from 15y ago (old news even at the time). This bottle was not turned or spoiled or even grossly fruity for its type, but man, it makes me wince, and adding a splash of it to other (modest) reds, just for blending complexity, ruined them with the aftertaste.
As so many others have written of California merlots even at their exalted, it's impossible to believe this is the same grape that results in the exceptionally complicated oh-so-dry pomerols and st emilions. (871 views)
Tasted by mrooney on 5/3/2018 & rated 68 points: nose: somewhat chemical fruit; palette: lightly metallic medium fruit to a lightly oaky finish (1320 views)
Tasted by Beth.schill on 4/21/2018 & rated 89 points: For a common merlot this was very enjoyable! (1180 views)
Tasted by mrooney on 3/13/2018 & rated 67 points: nose: almost nothing; palette: upfront almost metallic then light fruit with a little stronger oak in the finish, slightly drinkable but pass on buying it (1108 views)

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
