| Community Tasting Notes (average 84.9 pts. and median of 85 pts. in 13 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by VlgJeff on 5/18/2023 & rated 82 points: PnP. A medium bodied Merlot with lots of earth notes, some cherry, some cedar and more acidity than needed to balance. Even on sale for $8 it presents a questionable QPR. (328 views) | | Tasted by Wallgranger on 5/15/2023 & rated 78 points: earthy nose, fruit to the fire, plum and a hint aniseed, no great compkexity and a short pepper finish (285 views) | | Tasted by tomoem on 5/7/2023 & rated 79 points: OMG. Avoid. There is nothing here. Hated it. Not scoring above an 80 (377 views) | | Tasted by wtianseter on 12/7/2022 & rated 86 points: Solid basic Merlot. Medium- body, with solid fruit flavors and smooth finish. (489 views) | | Tasted by sue.austin489@btinternet.com on 2/20/2022 & rated 92 points: Dark, smooth and everything we enjoy (788 views) | | Tasted by bwk on 1/11/2022 & rated 83 points: Not flawed, just simple, “grape-y” and sweet. Guessing a healthy dose of mega-purple. Bogle has amazing values, I’m just too much of a wine snob now to enjoy this Merlot. (616 views) | | Tasted by frontenac on 8/18/2021 & rated 83 points: The second day I taste quite a bit of oak. Detracts a bit from the score. I might try another btll, or a different label. (925 views) | | Tasted by frontenac on 8/16/2021 & rated 85 points: Easy drinking and went well with porketta pork chop. Good qpr. (798 views) | | Tasted by Tiderunner22 on 5/25/2021 & rated 84 points: Surprisingly good wine for $6.00. Pleasant generic red with good fruit flavors on a short balanced finish. (707 views) | | Tasted by 767501 on 2/27/2021 & rated 86 points: Guessed a higher price for this blind. Surprisingly good for such a broad denomination. Medium ruby, mineral earth, graphite, red currant. Light body, balanced, low tannins. (600 views) | | Tasted by Odedis.Wine.reviews on 2/11/2021 & rated 88 points: Dark ruby in color with a short purple rim.
Fruity nose of black plums, black currants, coffee, oak, light vanilla, spices, dark chocolates and black pepper.
Full bodied with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, earth, oak, spices, licorice, peppercorn, coffee, chocolates, tobacco and light vegetables.
Medium finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a nice Merlot from California. Easy drinking with a nice mouthfeel.
Showing mild complexity, rich and extracted. Plush and tangy. A good everyday wine.
Good right out of the bottle and better with some air time (30 minutes).
I had it all by itself by the lake.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
88 points.

| Bogle Vineyards Producer websiteMerlotMerlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson CaliforniaNapa Valley.http://www.stagecoachvineyard.com/vineyards/our_vineyards.php Santa Ynez.http://www.everyvine.com/org/Camp_Four/vineyard/Camp_Four/ |
