Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 93.1 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 54 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by DWStyle on 3/23/2024 & rated 93 points: Tried one early. Decanted for several hours and it needed it. Bouquet be came enjoyable after 3 hours, prior it was a little harsh (alcohol). Nice flavors and long desirable finish. I believe it will benefit from some more cellar time but can be consumed now with prolonged decant 3-5 hrs. Enjoyable. (297 views)
Tasted by Mortgage92 on 6/19/2023 & rated 91 points: Ok, I increased my score by a point...so? As far as aromas and flavors I stand by my previous note. Yes, I know, I should have waited at least a year to drink the "next" bottle, but I'm running out of storage. Oh, did decide to increase my drink window by a couple of years, so will wait to drink my next bottle. (973 views)
Tasted by Mortgage92 on 1/7/2023 & rated 90 points: Aromas of black cherry, blackberries and licorice; flavors of black cherries and blackberries with a slight earthy tone. The acidity is mellow, but the tannins are a little elevated. This wine is fine for consumption, but I have similar vineyards that are slightly less expensive but in my opinion, a better wine for the value. (1287 views)
Tasted by tedcholl on 6/5/2022 & rated 93 points: Blackberry, blueberry, chocolate, and a touch of coconut. Last and best bottle I had of this vintage, really drinking well right now. Smooth, integrated, rich. Delightful. (1821 views)
Tasted by Ecbatana on 12/16/2021 & rated 92 points: Very elegant, medium intensity. Not a heavyweight but brings with it a commanding palate presence with a nice balance between the oak and mature dark fruits. High quality effort here from Darioush from the high quality/low yield 2015 vintage (2255 views)
Tasted by AGELVIS on 11/6/2021 & rated 94 points: One hour decant. Deep dark ruby magenta color. Black cherry, hot chocolate (with the little marshmallows), fennel, and rose on the nose. Smooth, dry palate. Soft tannins on the medium long finish. This is drinking in its prime for my palate. (2565 views)
Tasted by Maphill01 on 10/17/2021: PNP, drank over two days. Not bad, just not exciting, especially for the price point. Ripe, full bodied, modern Napa cab. Dark fruit and dark chocolate, cocoa and a bit of charcoal on the finish. I preferred this closer to cellar temp, where there was a bit more tension and focus. (1802 views)
Tasted by tedcholl on 9/29/2021 & rated 92 points: Bold, full bodied, and smooth. Blackberry, cassis, blackcurrant, graphite, chocolate, and tobacco. Excellent wine although I was expecting more for the price. (1520 views)
Tasted by Kbentley007 on 6/20/2021 & rated 93 points: 3hr decant, drank over 90 minutes. Solid wine, paired with prime filet. (1396 views)
Tasted by PierreBrusso on 4/30/2021 & rated 93 points: Black current, tobacco, oak, black cherry and blackberry, chocolate in full body of smooth but heavy tannins. Very nice (1136 views)
Tasted by denerin on 8/1/2020 & rated 91 points: Black current, tobacco, oak, black cherry and blackberry, chocolate and alcohol heat. Very tasty, happy to have tasted it once but the price is way to high in my opinion. (2261 views)
Tasted by Neras on 1/18/2020 & rated 93 points: It is good, it is fine, I like it. But it does not overwhelm me, which I would expect at this price level. (2978 views)
Tasted by Aggiecats on 8/3/2019 & rated 98 points: Great anniversary treat. Paired well with prime rib. Excellent wine (3815 views)
Tasted by lorenkreiss on 7/8/2019 & rated 96 points: Took about 1-2 hours to open up but once it did it was lovely. A big wine but it is structured with black fruit and some pepper. High alcohol. Can’t wait to taste this in a few years. Glad I bought a case. (3619 views)
Tasted by WizardNeedsFood on 3/28/2019 & rated 93 points: Enjoyed magnum at El Gaucho. Decanted one hour. Nose: ripe dark plums, blackberries. Medium body, full, and round. Nothing complex, straightforward dark red fruits, subtle spice, touch of cigars. Very easy drinking - crowd-pleaser even now. (4107 views)
Tasted by Bdsumner on 3/24/2019 & rated 95 points: Needs a bit to open up. But once it comes alive, this wine brings it! Anise and soft, ripe tannins balanced against a supple fruit core, this is a fantastic Napa Cab! (3185 views)
Tasted by Bodyfxr on 3/20/2019 & rated 94 points: Decanted and drank over the course of two hours. Deep opaque purple with a burgundy rim. A sensual nose of dark berries and flowers. Same on the palate. Luscious and yummy. Went great with sweet and spicy ribs. A classic well made Napa cab. Great now and over the next five years. (2256 views)
Tasted by jschnabel on 3/4/2019 & rated 90 points: The wine is built to drink now, although the tannins are robust and further aging couldn’t hurt. Blue fruit and pepper gives a noticeable bouquet to the nose. The wine has a wonderful silkiness about it, and provides dark fruit in abundance to the palette. But there is a bit of forward acidity and the wine finishes a bit hot at the end due to alcohol. (1884 views)
Tasted by tomoem on 11/5/2018 & rated 90 points: Still closed and that is after over 2 hours opened. I suspect it is better than this and still refrain from complete judgement. Cherry fruit flavors more than than blackberry. Brighter than cloudy. Just ok (2844 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 10/27/2018: Sleek and sexy (2346 views)
Tasted by tomoem on 10/12/2018 & rated 90 points: A good wine but not at the level of a really good wine. Purple fruit nose aromatics which include some violet. On the palette the wine is a little unbalanced as acidity dominates over fruit. Tannins seem present and may improve this wine with some time. Hold for 3-5 years. (2161 views)
Tasted by knlowery on 10/6/2018 & rated 94 points: Best Darioush Cab in many years (2232 views)
Tasted by sean7711 on 10/6/2018 & rated 92 points: Napa Harvest Weekend; 10/5/2018-10/8/2018 (Napa Valley, CA): Tasting at Darioush. Served 4th.

This is a good bottle of wine, but not sure if I'd pay $100 for it. Evidently I did, since I bought a bottle for consumption for later that night. Didn't remember any formal notes.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
