Tasted by Ijshul on 4/21/2024 & rated 95 points: Delicious for Seder 2024. (81 views)
Tasted by wine4lux on 6/17/2022 & rated 91 points: Poured first glass with a coravin, opened 30 minutes later and finished over 90 minutes. Some fading at the edges, very minimal sedimentation, overall, a lovely smooth wine with pleasing dark fruit notes. Only negative is that the finish is now pretty short. (1063 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 11/1/2021 & rated 93 points: Similar to the 8/22/20 bottle. (1316 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 6/20/2021 & rated 92 points: Just a touch less fresh than the 8/22/20 bottle. Drink up! (1516 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 11/29/2020 & rated 92 points: Good color good nose good flavor for 20 min. Then faded and a bit of a tart finish. (1650 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 8/22/2020 & rated 93 points: Similar to the 6/14/14 bottle and still very fresh. (1738 views)
Tasted by thesandersfamily on 8/8/2017 & rated 93 points: Held up well for 15 years (3475 views)
Tasted by thesandersfamily on 8/8/2017: Santa Monica Gaga trip (2970 views)
Tasted by ejca on 6/19/2016: Ok, lots of oak, got better after an hour but still not great. Another early 2000 disappointment. (3780 views)
Tasted by pittwife on 1/17/2016 & rated 89 points: Worth the wait, wish I had another bottle of the same year. (3996 views)
Tasted by kgh on 1/1/2016 & rated 94 points: 3.0 liter drank over two days. Very dark, extracted wine, yet has aged beautifully. Rich currant, black pepper, hints of leather and licorice. Terrific. (3827 views)
Tasted by Wineshington on 12/19/2015 & rated 93 points: Outstanding wine. In the drinking window. Very typical Napa valley floor cab profile. Tannins have softened. Decanted 30 minutes. (2229 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 8/19/2015 & rated 92 points: Pw/1 hr decant. Clear, almost black ink color. Hard to believe it's that old. If you like monster, in your face reds, this is the real deal. Deep stained legs, it's still a baby. Concentrated, intense tannins with plenty of black/blue fruit that puckers the lips in a good way. Huge body, huge intensity, rich flavors of earth, tar, saddle and licorice. Not for the novice. This could/should age well yet for a decade or more. Nothing off. (2459 views)
Tasted by GeorgeSW on 7/17/2015 & rated 92 points: Dark red almost purple. Cherry and a hint of vanilla, fine tannins. Wish I had another bottle (1865 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 6/14/2014 & rated 93 points: Deep purple/red color. Aromas of black fruits, eucalyptus and wood spices. Ripe, thick fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length and finely integrated oak and tannins. Very suave and balanced on the palate. This delicious Napa Cabernet is firmly in its peak drinking period. (2876 views)
Tasted by Mkond1 on 4/27/2014 & rated 100 points: Unbelievable wine. Smooth. Tasty. Nice legs. (2997 views)
Tasted by Sharmajd on 2/24/2014 & rated 90 points: Drank the '02 in an vertical from '02, '03 and '04. Only one person preferred the '02 over the others. The fruit is perfectly integrated. Very little oak or tannins showing. I would drink up any left in the cellar since it does not have much more life left. The bottle we opened still had the fruit but it was receding. (2946 views)
Tasted by RBaird on 5/24/2013 & rated 91 points: excellent (3771 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 3/23/2013 & rated 88 points: 4th Saturday group "uptown" tasting (Rich & Dana's): Garnet color. Aromas of ripe red fruit, grapefruit and currants. Medium-bodied, with tart red fruit and an acidic edge. (4744 views)
Tasted by Sternmat on 1/19/2013 & rated 91 points: Still inky and dark the wine is showing a bit of age. Still delicious - lots of fruit in the dark cherry vein with good structure. Not too much oak but definitely some vanilla. Great with red meat. (2713 views)
Tasted by jbouchy on 12/22/2012 & rated 91 points: Pulled cork and drank. It woke up about 1 1/2 hours into the bottle. 2002 continues to impress! Beautifully balanced, nice finish and well structured. Good on all those fronts but lacks any bit of complexity. Enjoyable but no WOW factor. (2560 views)
Tasted by pmarlo on 12/2/2012 & rated 93 points: Has aged very well, one of the smoothest cabernets i've ever had. Nothing sticks out either harshly or jagged, totally integrated. Tannins very soft and just the slightest hint of drying, as they are mostly evolved. Easy, easy drinker. Poured through Vinturi because I thought there might be sediment; there wasn't. If you have any open one now. Don't know how this could get any better, so I wouldn't let one age more now than 5 years. (3072 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 10/27/2012 & rated 94 points: Tasted blind. Odd, stewed vegetable nose. Not bad, just unusual. Seem chocolate as well. The palate is very smooth with great dark fruits and solid tannins. A very solid wine. (2109 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 10/13/2012 & rated 90 points: Saturday Tasting Group (Knightsbridge Wine Shop (Northbrook, IL)): Big anise, rocky, darker liqueur fruit. Big tar and touch of earth and funk. Black olive. Real heady. Real big palate.
Sweetness in fruit. Robust and lots of grip. Obviously Napa. Thought it could have been Syrah with some spice notes. (3526 views)
Tasted by Marc S on 9/16/2012 & rated 89 points: - Medium forming legs. It's balanced and has flavours of chocolate and butterscotch with a medium/full body. Silky texture - This is a big wine to say the least. A nice garret color around the rim of the glass. (3209 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
