Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.4 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 15 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by braised on 5/18/2024: Rich and generous, fresher and less matured than a bottle drank a year ago but no mineral depth or tension. (28 views)
Tasted by braised on 7/30/2023: Light gold, luscious and full. Limited minerality and an acidity that is soft rather than tight. Freshness is giving way to the secondary mature flavors of pineapple and caramel florals. Persistent finish. I don’t believe the wine is too young but in the matured drinking window. (289 views)
Tasted by DH90 on 6/3/2023 & rated 93 points: Expressive nose shortly after opening. Tangy elements of lemon and iime with a faint undertone of butterscotch. This is full and expansive on the palate. It needs another 5-10 years before reconsidering. Great potential but it is still young despite 6+ years of bottle aging. (364 views)
Tasted by DH90 on 6/3/2023 & rated 92 points: Light gold-yellow color. Intense complex nose with an impressive intensity on the palate. Lovely wine but it is much too young at this point in its evolution. Tasted at the local Paulee Meursault and this bottle went quickly. (404 views)
Tasted by winelover1808 on 9/3/2022 & rated 91 points: popped and poured. unusually dark golden hue - was very worried this was pre-oxed. but as it opened, it def was not - but the super dark color makes me relieved I had this when I did. This was very very fruit forward to me - a lot of pineapple, tropical flavors - the finish had a bit of a bitter, slightly metallic tinge that wasnt entiely unpleasant but wasnt amazing either. if I had this blind, I wonder if I would have guessed White Burg given this did not have much if any pronounced minerality. perhaps it was the bottle I had. regardless it was enjoyable. (546 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 2/5/2022 & rated 89 points: last of my case, experienced much btl variation here... opened this to decant for dinner, three hours later tasted and decided not to take to dinner (tasted pretty bad)... drank the rest 2 nights later (gassed / fridged) and was just OK... hmmm... something weird with lots of ups and downs on this bottling (at least my case) (744 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 10/16/2021 & rated 92 points: really enjoyed this, very bright citrus fruit in abundance, med ++ body, not a lot of minerals... classic P/M Pucelles with a A- grade... tons of acidity, thinking this can do well over 10-12 years more (555 views)
Tasted by winelover1808 on 5/3/2021 & rated 90 points: this wasnt quite what I was expecting. A lot of lush pineapple and tropical fruit; a bit of oak; not the level of acidity I expected and very little to no pronounced minerality. very well made - but if I had tasted this blind, I would have guessed CA Chardonnay not a premier cru puligny. still, an enjoyable wine....perhaps I drank this too young? I did have this over two days, and my tasting notes are similar on day two as well... (713 views)
Tasted by Burgland on 3/23/2021 & rated 93 points: Light gold in color. White honeysuckle and other fragrant white flowers on the nose. On the palate it is rich, thick, viscous and broad with classic Puligny floral elegance. Soft and rich instead of racy. Long, high octane finish. Power instead of finesse. A white Burg this rich and soft is at its peak now. (701 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 9/23/2020 & rated 92 points: a little dark when poured into decanter, so was worried about the pre-mox I had in my 7/19 bottle, then after about 30 minutes it was fine with a lifted palate and P/M typicity... nice (757 views)
Tasted by beatles on 11/4/2019 & rated 93 points: Interesting to see this so shortly after the Folatières of the samme vintage - this shows similar traits in terms of quick development vis-a-vis the 2017. Rich, nutty, very much Puligny (Jan guessed even Pucelles), layered, rich - but the acidity is here. Vraiment!
#Jan&LarsBo (1215 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 7/22/2019 & rated 87 points: this one was again (after a better bottle) pretty dark and pretty heavy / carmel'ish... bummer as we like them bright light and lifted... wondering if this could have had some travel problems??... significant bottle variation in my case for sure -- and more bad ones that good ones unfortunately (708 views)
Tasted by Vinnut on 4/13/2019 & rated 93 points: Medium golden yellow in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of apples, pears, citrus notes of lemons/limes & grapefruit with overtones of floral notes of honeysuckle & minerals, chalky, smoky, stony, hazelnuts & a hint of toasted oak. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush, ripe fruit flavors of apples, pears & lemons/limes with minerals, flinty, stony, buttery & a hint of toasted oak. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present but definitely needs additional time to fully develop at which time the score should be higher. (728 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 1/8/2019: no notes so NR, but remember (as much as you can in Viva! -- aka Vegas) this being very nice, was beat out by HG Meursault Charmes '15 (677 views)
Tasted by tobyc on 12/14/2017 & rated 92 points: Tasted at a 2016 vintage tasting of the domaine.

Colour: "Buttery" yellow.

Bouquet: Elegant, ethereal w. apricots, candied lemon zest, eucalyptus.

Palate: Very mineralrich w. stones, butter-roasted nuts, camphor, oranges, lemons and brioche and toast.

Shows its muscles but dancing. Big wine w. a long, fine aftertaste. (358 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
