| Community Tasting Notes (average 92.2 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 14 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by ekorn on 3/24/2024: Bought on the secondary market a few years ago. Worrisomely dark color -- almost tawny-like. Nose showed some tea-like delicate notes, while the palate brought stone fruit, plenty of botrytis, a substantial dose of sweetness, and a shot of acid. In a much better place than its color would suggest, but this bottle still felt quite evolved. (199 views) | | Tasted by IJC on 12/19/2021: Though almost 25 years old, the color was darker, and the development of the wine more advanced than anticipated. Delicious, but clearly nearing the end of the period when it will give pleasure, the fruit fading, the spicy tang beginning to lean towards a certain bitterness. For sure, there is a marvelous melange of quince, bitter orange, grapefruit, honey, nutmeg and cinnamon and allspice; a somewhat surprising touch of earthiness seems to come from below.
Rated +2 on a scale of -1 to +3. (1028 views) | | Tasted by Burgland on 6/23/2020 & rated 94 points: Purchased on release. Dark in color. Lovely citrus and honey on the nose. Similar orange citrus and marmalade on the palate. There is bright acidity that plays well against the botrytis. This reserve wine is a major step up in richness and freshness compared to the regular moelleux bottling. (2386 views) | | Tasted by liber on 11/11/2018 & rated 90 points: 11th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, previously VGI or better, darkening, starting to lose fruit though v botrytized, slightly dusty, not up to Huet in this vintage and aging prematurely. VGI (17). (2642 views) | | Tasted by ATBridge on 7/8/2017: Second bottle in as many weeks. Color is dark, as noted by others. Still quite fresh and balanced with botrytis notes pronounced. Drinking well now. (3117 views) | | Tasted by Axone on 7/9/2016 & rated 87 points: Dissociée avec une forte acidité en finale. Pas agréable. (3074 views) | | Tasted by silton on 11/26/2015: As others noted, this had an oddly brown color but was not over the hill. Combines a base of orange blossom honey with stone fruits, cumin, and a finishing wash of lemon. This features plenty of flavor in a lighter, nearly elegant frame, making it easy to drink 5-6 ounces without it getting tiresome. Shows rather differently at different temperatures. (2919 views) | | Tasted by ski695 on 8/23/2015 & rated 94 points: what a great drinking wine. This may be the first one I have tried since maybe 2000. This is drinking wonderfully. Orange, apricot marmalade. Bracing acids on the finish that nearly hurt. Great intensity. Very if not extremely long finish driven by the acids. I gave up on some other producer 1997 sweete loire (Pierre Bise etc) but this one really does rock. A pleasure. Maybe even better than the huet version, I think, but it has been a while.
I should as I see others have that the color is darker than one might guess. Understand this is typical for Foreau and do not be deceived. (2772 views) | | Tasted by acyso on 12/14/2013 & rated 93 points: HDH auction tasting at Tru (Chicago, IL): Seems advanced. Honey, botrytis, and tart fruit on the nose. Very rich and sweet on the palate; plenty of concentrated honey notes with flavours of apricots. Not too thick on the palate texturally, but just downright delicious. (4005 views) | | Tasted by slywka7 on 2/16/2013 & rated 92 points: Tasted blind. If wine 5 was the most difficult to pinpoint this might have been right behind it. The color on this was brown, which made me think it was a lot older than it actually was. On the nose I got a lot of honey and botrytis. This was a fuller bodied white, I think the sweetness added a little body with flavors of apple and honey. It ended with an impressive finish. I guessed a Semillon. Although it tasted fine I am guessing it was kept in less than ideal storage conditions because I don’t believe it should have been that brown at this age but I could be wrong. I gave this 92 points and it got WOTN.
