Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.5 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 2 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by theportguy on 9/28/2021 & rated 93 points: 2021 FTLOP Harvest Tour; 9/19/2021-10/2/2021 (Portgugal): Dark purple in color with slight garnet on the edges. Cranberry, boysenberry, and brambleberry on the nose. Intense mouthfeel with tannins immediately present. On the mid-palate, the tannins give way slightly to some very nice sour cherry and raspberry notes. This is a full-bodied wine, and the tannins are just beginning to integrate with the fruit. I believe this is going to evolve into a very nice wine. Very long finish. (295 views)
Tasted by theportguy on 8/31/2017 & rated 90 points: 2015 Vintage Port Tasting; 8/29/2017-8/31/2017 (Sammamish, Washington): Nose reminiscent of a Washington State Syrah. Some mocha, green pepper and a touch of creosote on the nose. Chalky tannins overwhelm the cranberry and red fruit on the mid-palate. Very long finish with a touch of spice. I suspect that this suffered from re-fermentation in the bottle, which can occur when a wine is bottled before it is stable and the yeast cells re-ferment the remaining sugar in the bottle. Port Blend

Over a hundred varieties of grapes (castas) are sanctioned for port production, although only five (Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional) are widely cultivated and used.
