Tasted by Dnordh on 7/22/2023 & rated 91 points: One of my favourite wines, which is not too expensive and goes well with Ribeye.
Full body, fruity, and a bit of complexity. (983 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 7/3/2022: Over dinner, no formal notes. Dense and concentrated, well balanced with nice depth and length. A little heavy and four-square at times, but this should improve over time. The alcohol is indeed very well integrated. 91-93? (2190 views)
Tasted by Romz on 4/21/2022 & rated 90 points: 20042022 - blind night with MYS sifus at Butcher’s Table.
First time meeting bro @SKT and my first ever Pingus! Heard so much about this RdD from Spain. Nose is muted and I could only pick up dark fruit and oak. On the palate, plenty blackberries, plum and bitter chocolate. It is full bodied, high acidity and has unresolved tannins. I feel there is lots of potential for this beast. Will be good to unleash this again in 5 or maybe 10 years time. Thanks for sharing bro! (2132 views)
Tasted by Brian of Mull on 2/10/2022 & rated 92 points: Opened for 1 hour. Color is deep red/purple. On the nose: Plum, baking spices and a hint of cola. On the palette: Plum, dusty tannins and tar. It’s too young. It’s a bit heavy. High alcohol but don’t taste any heat. Probably needs a much longer decant at this stage. It’s good but should be great. I would prefer a PSI actually for drinkability. (2269 views)
Tasted by Pinot Peter on 1/4/2022: Very enjoyable! A very soft and balanced wine that hides it's 15% alcohol well, full of typical sweet black fruits, plum and earth tempranillo flavours, leaves a slight dryness on the palate from the tannins. (2190 views)
Tasted by bitdrerik on 12/17/2021 & rated 93 points: Jólavínsmakk Eðalklúbbsins 2021 (Marbakkabraut 12): Klúbbnum áskotnuðust tvær Flor de Pingus flöskur um daginn.

(1942 views)
Tasted by Fat1Wombat on 12/4/2021 & rated 90 points: Dinner with Rachel and Jamie.
Medium to medium dense red with a little brick.
Tarry, vanilla and molasses nose. Black fruit. Very ripe. Heavy & ripe but not pruney.
Rich fruit. Sweet mid palate rather than entry. Slightly dull pH texture. Dry tannins.
Good weight but very harsh assessment would be that it feels soapy and sloppy with a dry finish. (918 views)
Tasted by Lehto on 6/26/2021 & rated 90 points: Really not my type of wine and this was just too young even with about 3 hours of decanting. Too spicy, warm and powerful for me. (1494 views)
 Tasted by Mikmaj73 on 5/26/2021: . (1157 views)
Tasted by Iceman611 on 4/3/2021 & rated 94 points: Eye opening on 2nd day. This is just a perfectly balanced, decently concentrated, silky ribera. Wonderful. (1305 views)
Tasted by La Sprezzatura on 1/1/2021 & rated 94 points: not decanted
bouquet: ripe dark fruits, blackberry, dark cherries, woody notes, spice. very concise. you can merely smell the heat on the nose. this spaniard is surprisingly fresh and elegant.
high tannins, high alc, medium acidity, full bodied, velvety and long finish
good stuff, but would recommend to decant for 2-3h (1833 views)
Tasted by J_H on 12/24/2020 & rated 93 points: - Nose: medium intense nose of dark fruits, lots of coffee and sweet strawberries and raspberries. Cassis, vanilla and chewing gum are also noticeable. Youthful and very clear.
- Mouth: dry, high alcohol, quite present (medium +) tannins, nice velvety and silky. But the Flor de Pingus seems drying in the mid-palate and not very animating to drink. The finish is long, body medium +. Fairly good finesse, precise and structured.
- 93P. Decant for 1h and put the rest in the cellar. (1633 views)

Tempranillo

Varietal character (Appellation America) | TAPAS: Tempranillo Advocates, Producers and Amigos Society

Tempranillo is the premium red wine grape variety from the Rioja and Ribera del Duero region in Spain. Tempranillo's aromas and flavors often combine elements of berryish fruit, herbaceousness, and an earthy-leathery minerality. Being low in acidity and sugar content, it is commonly blended with Carignan (Mazuela), Grenache (Garnacha), Graciano, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The varietal is at its best in top Riojas, where oak aging is employed to generate increased complexity and harmony. From the best sites, these wines can be remarkably concentrated with great aging potential. New wines from this region are darker, and more robust, with more dynamic primary fruit flavors than traditionally styled examples. These wines seem to reflect the influence of Spain's other key region for Tempranillo, Ribera del Duero. Regardless of style, Riojas tend to be medium bodied wines, with more acid than tannins. These wines generally feature Tempranillo blended with Garancha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. For these wines, there are three quality levels, which will appear on the label. Everyday drinking wines fall under the category of "Crianza", "Reserva" denotes more complex and concentrated wines, and "Gran Reserva" refers to the most intense wines, made only in the best years.

The same labeling scheme applies to wines from Ribera del Duero, which, like Rioja, is dominated by Tempranillo and shares similar blending grapes. Again, Ribera del Duero wines are generally darker and more powerful than the most traditional Riojas. These wines also generally see less oak treatment than Riojas. From Rioja, we like wines from Allende, Marqués de Cáceres, Montecillo, and Cune. In Ribera del Duero, consider Dominio de Pingus, Emilio Moro, Convento San Francisco, and Pesquera.
Pair older-style Rioja with simple meats like chicken, leg of lamb, and pork loin. However, the newer style of Rioja and Ribera del Duero works especially well with bolder meat dishes or an aged Spanish cheese like Manchego or Idiazabal.

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
