If you've got them and plan to drink them, I'd do it soon IMO. (5943 views) | | Tasted by Corrado on 10/11/2007 & rated 89 points: - 89/100 COLOR: 5/5 - Deep, bright burgundy color. NOSE: 12/15 - Full, if not overly complex, nose of leather, tobacco, spice, and a whole berry jam medley. Much more expressive immediately upon opening than after a few hours. FLAVOR: 8/10 - Velvety smooth, round on the palate, with black pepper, smoke, cassis, and blackberry. The high alcohol content is only noticable as a lilt of candied character to balance against the tannin. FINISH: 7/10 - Lingering finish of sour cherry, pipe tobacco with some licorice here & there. If you hold it & look for it, you can find the alcohol. After a few minutes, a black raspberry glow starts building. POTENTIAL: 3/5 - This wine is drinking quite well today, but there's a serious punch underneath that will probably make this a good 5 year cellaring candidate. It will be interesting to see how the fruit continues to integrate through time. OVERALL: 4/5 - For a novice winemaker, Maynard did good work here. I was more than ready to slap another low/mid 80s badge on this in CT, but this is a better wine than that. It's not meant to be a serious bottle, but it was very tasty and a perfect compliment to APC's Mer de Nom on a quite Saturday night. I'm patiently waiting for some of the winery's better offerings to be released. (6617 views) |
| Caduceus Cellars Producer websiteRed Blend.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson CaliforniaNapa Valley.http://www.stagecoachvineyard.com/vineyards/our_vineyards.php Santa Ynez.http://www.everyvine.com/org/Camp_Four/vineyard/Camp_Four/ |
