- 89/100 COLOR: 5/5 - Deep, bright burgundy color. NOSE: 12/15 - Full, if not overly complex, nose of leather, tobacco, spice, and a whole berry jam medley. Much more expressive immediately upon opening than after a few hours. FLAVOR: 8/10 - Velvety smooth, round on the palate, with black pepper, smoke, cassis, and blackberry. The high alcohol content is only noticable as a lilt of candied character to balance against the tannin. FINISH: 7/10 - Lingering finish of sour cherry, pipe tobacco with some licorice here & there. If you hold it & look for it, you can find the alcohol. After a few minutes, a black raspberry glow starts building. POTENTIAL: 3/5 - This wine is drinking quite well today, but there's a serious punch underneath that will probably make this a good 5 year cellaring candidate. It will be interesting to see how the fruit continues to integrate through time. OVERALL: 4/5 - For a novice winemaker, Maynard did good work here. I was more than ready to slap another low/mid 80s badge on this in CT, but this is a better wine than that.

Interesting bottle from one of Jen and my favorite performers, MJK. It's not meant to be a serious bottle, but it was very tasty and a perfect compliment to APC's Mer de Nom on a quite Saturday night. I'm patiently waiting for some of the winery's better offerings to be released.

This bottle was really falling apart. If you've got them and plan to drink them, I'd do it soon IMO.
