Tasted by Shafeeqb on 2/15/2023: To Stephen Lao at MB of Pleasanton as a thank you. (538 views)
Tasted by Martin Redmond on 12/3/2022 & rated 91 points: No formal TN (539 views)
Tasted by Brent25 on 1/20/2022 & rated 89 points: Clear deep ruby; clean medium plus nose of jammy red cherries and cinnamon; dry; medium plus acidity; medium tannins; medium plus alcohol; medium plus body; medium plus flavour intensity; palate is tarter; medium plus finish; drink now or in a few years; very fresh and unobtrusive but not particularly interesting (1086 views)
Tasted by daveyk39 on 1/2/2022 & rated 93 points: Look like my last bottle may have been an anomaly as this last bottle soared to the same heights as previous tastings. Red plum, blackberry, green peppercorn, graphite and sweet tobacco on the nose. Robust and balanced on the palate. Silky and succulent, with flavors of tart red berries, zesty black fruit, hints of blueberry and a smoky sweet finish with lingering pepperiness. Deeply impressive and mature credit to the Yorkville Highlands. (1084 views)
Tasted by daveyk39 on 8/7/2021 & rated 89 points: Not as good as I recall. 2.5h air. Medium purple color. Cherry, plum sauce, black raspberry, baking spice and graphite notes. Juicy and jammy on the palate: red and black fruit, with baking spice, menthol and salinity. Not enough structure to cut through the jammy fruit, in my opinion. (1392 views)
Tasted by Mdubnik on 4/2/2021 & rated 91 points: For a non Syrah drinker, this was excellent! (1307 views)
Tasted by daveyk39 on 2/12/2021 & rated 92 points: C. Aged 14m in 100% neutral French oak. Gave 3h of air.

Medium purple color. Aromas of plum, blackcurrant, tobacco, allspice and leather. This cool-climate Syrah (from vineyards 1,800' above the valley floor in Mendocino) opts to emphasize grace and balance, and succeeds, while maintaining density and mouth-filling satisfaction. Smooth and supple on the palate, with plush tannins, dark fruit, blackcurrant, menthol and spice. (1418 views)
Tasted by pdadams66 on 1/25/2021 & rated 90 points: Excellent colder climate style Syrah. Sophisticated, great fruit, and supporting acidity. Drinks well now with some air. Better in 3+ years. (1006 views)
Tasted by hfindlay on 1/15/2021: Intense yet balanced, even nervy for a Californian syrah. Powerful and elegant at once, with all the right varietal stuff: black plum and berry, touch of olive, beef blood. Nice wet river-stone notes. Great winemaking and terroir for the price, in my humble opinion. (1126 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

North Coast

The North Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California, covering more than three million acres, includes Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties, and portions of Marin and Solano counties. (see The Wine Institute for more information)
