Community Tasting Notes (average 91.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 24 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by gravelld on 10/21/2018 & rated 88 points: Semi thick oily texture. Noise of honey, floral notes, petrol, rubber. Palate shows good acidity with some white fruit, faint burnt matches. Elegant. (1519 views)
Tasted by bjlcrucrazy on 11/20/2016 & rated 92 points: This was fantastic for me. Very dry, masculine , apricot, orange rind, but oh so balanced. Wonderful minerality. Paired very well with roast bone in ham!! (2357 views)
Tasted by GrandeSerataFuori on 2/14/2016 & rated 90 points: Still marvelous. Thick almost syrupy with a strong citrus component. Worth finding more 2005's as they are still going strong. (2902 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 6/6/2015: Magnum. Medium yellow. Gorgeous aromatics of tea and candied ginger. Some residual sugar on the entry, but dry, mineral finish, fabulous acidity. Peach and citrus fruit that is completely fresh and vivid for its age. Wow, what a stellar (big) bottle this was. Very little in the way of secondary characteristics, which makes me think that in this format, it could easily go on for another decade. (3338 views)
Tasted by elledeca on 1/11/2014: Very nice bottle, a bit of petrol but then lovely nose and mouth of peaches and clementines. Excellent. (4014 views)
Tasted by Capt Cutlass on 12/29/2013 & rated 92 points: No notes taken. This was a stunning example of what Alsace can do with Riesling. Classic petrol and burnt caramel on the nose. A dry, mineral palate with grapefruit acidity and bitterness and orange rind flavors. In fine form and with years ahead: the wine hardly changed from the beginning to the end of the meal! (3024 views)
Tasted by BBG London on 8/25/2013 & rated 91 points: Delicious. Very dry. Lots of apricot notes coming through and good length.
£30/bottle. Expensive. (1891 views)
Tasted by bacchusnyon on 8/2/2013 & rated 92 points: Nothing to add to previous notes - except that they might have underscored slightly. How much better can a riesling get (not my speciality I note). (2064 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 7/4/2013 & rated 93 points: From magnum - light lemon yellow color; very appealing, petrol, muddled mint, wintergreen nose; tasty, tart lime, cottage cheese, mineral palate with medium acidity that cuts like a knife; medium-plus finish 93+ points (539 views)
Tasted by derek.hara@sbcglobal.net on 5/6/2013 & rated 93 points: Magnum dinner- this wine was delicious. Slight petrol on the nose with stone fruit, lime, honey, mineral, and an interesting smokiness. On the palate, the wine was more linear and focused than we expected given our prior experience with Weinbach wines. Searing acidity nicely balanced the RS. Mouthwatering minerality (1943 views)
Tasted by GrandeSerataFuori on 4/15/2013 & rated 90 points: Agreeing with all previous reviews, especially SDR. Dry but still that nice sweetness a Riesling can have. To me this is a pleasant and authentic wine. There is a thickness and petrol like quality for certain. A tiny bit of perfume and citrus. I liked this one better very chilled. Strangely it even had a stronger nose right out of the icy water. Glad to have two more, but not sure when to drink. (1799 views)
Tasted by vijayk416 on 1/25/2013 & rated 88 points: Pretty lean but still offdry, petrol becoming prominent.
A good wine but given my two experiences and taking into account the price, not a rebuy. (1375 views)
Tasted by vijayk416 on 10/9/2011 & rated 90 points: Still closed but lots of upside. 90+ (2119 views)
Tasted by MCody on 12/31/2010 & rated 90 points: Closed right now. Lots of minerality and good acidity but the fruit is hiding. Needs a lot more time. Will be great. (2312 views)
Tasted by JamesSanders on 10/15/2010 & rated 90 points: Not much in the way of complexity yet, but sometimes straight down the middle of the plate is just what you want. Very nice. (2289 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 9/29/2010 & rated 90 points: Light lemon yellow color; petrol, lemon oil, peach nectar, baked apple nose; tangy, tart citrus, tart apple, mineral palate with balance; medium-plus finish (1696 views)
Tasted by sdr on 7/26/2009 & rated 90 points: Very nice successful rounded riesling; not sweet or even off dry, yet somehow ripe and rich enough so it does not taste bone dry either. Clean fragrance of the riesling grape and modest minerality on the palate. Good to drink now and over the short term. (2302 views)
Tasted by Honey Badger on 12/23/2008 & rated 93 points: More shut down than on release (2305 views)
Tasted by kris.h on 9/28/2007 & rated 91 points: End of Summer BBQ (Seattle, WA): This has a lovely flinty citrusy nose. Great minerality on the palate. Dry. This is an outstanding riesling. (3371 views)

2005 Domaine Weinbach Riesling Schlossberg

J&B notes:
Coming from a plot in the upper parts of the Schlossberg vineyard this manages to be both profoundly mineral and highly succulent. Offering up great depths of the finest silk textured and lime scented, tangerine and salted orange zest fruit there is a refined and elegant purpose about this Schlossberg that is a joy to behold. Poise and grace reign over all the elements here. Superb. Schlossberg is a fabulous vineyard that was the first classified Grand Cru in Alsace. Based on a granite parent rock, the soils in Schlossberg are sandy, rich in minerals, not very deep at the top of the slope (400 metres of altitude), but deeper at the bottom (230 metres). Because of its steep slopes with a south exposure, Schlossberg needs terracing. The quality of this very famous vineyard was well known as early as the fifteenth century. It was the first Alsacian soil classified as a Grand Cru under the 1975 decree. Schlossberg is an extraordinary soil for Riesling, it gives it very pure fruitiness, personality and remarkable finesse.
