Magnum. Medium yellow. Gorgeous aromatics of tea and candied ginger. Some residual sugar on the entry, but dry, mineral finish, fabulous acidity. Peach and citrus fruit that is completely fresh and vivid for its age. Wow, what a stellar (big) bottle this was. Very little in the way of secondary characteristics, which makes me think that in this format, it could easily go on for another decade.
No notes taken. This was a stunning example of what Alsace can do with Riesling. Classic petrol and burnt caramel on the nose. A dry, mineral palate with grapefruit acidity and bitterness and orange rind flavors. In fine form and with years ahead: the wine hardly changed from the beginning to the end of the meal!
