It’s big and round with mouth watering stone fruit flavors. The acidity has really integrated and softened. The tertiary flavors have not really come out, but given the softness of the palate, I would recommend drinking sooner rather than later. Great with pasta ai gamberi. White peaches, pineapple, mango, all in great balance with mouthwatering acidity. Nice streak of minerality and crushed limestone adds to the complexity. Every now and then I’m in the mood for a big Cali chard and this one always delivers. (638 views) | | Tasted by mflesh on 12/23/2022: Sweeter young Kistler fruit. Meyer Lemon Creme Brulee, coconut spice cookie, graham cracker, a dash of tropical character thrown in. Pretty darn delicious. Great balance here. I'm a fan of Kistler being consumed within 5-7 years post vintage, which is right where we are here (although sometimes you definitely can get surprised by a 12 year old McCrea that comes in fast and hot from left field!). Always enjoy Kistler since it's not really one that I have too much of yet really haven't had a bad experience! (929 views) | | Tasted by jvphoto on 11/26/2022 & rated 92 points: Lemon curd, coconut, white flowers, ripe pear, strong prick of acid. (778 views) | | Tasted by Frijole on 10/2/2022: medium gold, lots of clarity, silvery hue Nose: ripe pear, vanilla, white pepper, caramel, lime rind, stones, oak Pal: ripe pear, touch green apple, touch tangerine, white pepper, caramel, lime, apple cider, stones, oak Feel: medium, round, touch flabby Finish: medium T8 (834 views) | | Tasted by mojotojo on 2/26/2022 & rated 95 points: Sometimes you drink a bottle of wine that simply restores your faith. In this case, in chardonnay. An ethereal bottle the opened up over the course of an hour into something that was wonderfully rich, complex and stunning. White peaches, hazelnut, some citrus, honey and pineapple. Not to mention some racy minerality. Beautiful balance and a fantastic finish that lingers. A gorgeous, brilliant bottle of wine. (878 views) | | Tasted by winecoffee on 1/9/2022 & rated 93 points: Beautiful nose of melon, yeast, and molasses. Palate has citrus up front but is followed by pear, charred butter, and molasses in the mid palate. It ends with a salty marmalade. (938 views) | | Tasted by msuwine on 5/30/2021 & rated 90 points: This round and honeyed Chardonnay lacks the freshness and precision of the 2017 Vine Hill, Hyde, and Cathleen, and I'm starting to think the Stone Flat's more oaky and viscous style just isn't my thing. After looking at my notes, I was surprised to see that I rated this vineyard the lowest of the Kistler Chardonnays in 2015, 2016, and 2017... so, yeah: not my thing.
Light gold in color; full in body; nose of grilled peach, lemon peel, and baked hazelnut. Flavors of apricot, pear, and cantaloupe, with an open finish that carries a hint of burnt caramel. 14.5% alcohol. This is a defensible wine, but it doesn't have the energy necessary to carry off such a hefty undertaking. Drink soon. (2591 views) | | Tasted by Rhwinetracker on 1/24/2021: Drank with dinner and then decanted 1 hour and drank another glass after dinner. Was better after decant. On the nose, peach, pineapple, and green apple. On the palate, lemon, good balanced acidity, and the right amount of oak. (1346 views) | | Tasted by paujokal on 1/4/2021 & rated 93 points: Classic Kistler. Great bottle. (1359 views) | | Tasted by osodoro on 12/25/2020 & rated 96 points: This is Chardonnay elevated to greatness. Beautiful in the glass. Subtle and complex at the same time. One of the best we've ever had. Drinks like a Montrachet. A (1229 views) | | Tasted by tak4 on 3/13/2020 & rated 92 points: Popped and double decanted. Had a glass before the tasting note.
Wine is a deep lemon color. Clear and bright despite being unfiltered.
On nose, pineapple, grapefruit, golden raisin, citrus, american smarties, no discernible minerality.
On palate, wine is sound. Medium-high acid, no tannin, long finish, high alcohol. A touch of oak went away with the double decant. More citrus-forward on the palate with a tiny spicy touch.
Really nice! Needed after a tough week. | Kistler Producer websiteChardonnay The Chardonnay GrapeUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma Coast * Sonoma Coast AVA (Wikipedia) * Sonoma Coast AVA (Wine Institue) |
