Tasted by rcasaw on 3/9/2023 & rated 89 points: Drinkable but past it’s prime (620 views)
Tasted by joncohen on 6/16/2016 & rated 91 points: classic Napa cab. opaque purple-blue, medium plus viscosity. aromas of dark fruit, wet leaves, tobacco, oak; on the palate: red/blue fruit, cassis, black tea; tannins are fine and well-integrated, with a silky mouthfeel; fruit may be a little over the hill, but it's still drinking beautifully -- texture has really come together in a way you don't get from younger juice. it's good to be reminded why we lay bottles down.
that said, this isn't going to improve any more, and fruit is probably already post-apex; drink now. (4896 views)
Tasted by wineshaman on 5/7/2016 flawed bottle: Not sure if this is the correct stags leap, the label pictured is correct (stags Leap wine cellars), which is the wine I am drinking. Stags leap winery is a separate entity. That being said this particular bottle was DOA, completely void of fruit all that was left was an oaky mess. According to CT this has been in my cold cellar since late 2007 and I consumed another one back in 2012 which I rated 89. I am actually showing a bottle of 04 Stags Leap Winery somewhere in my inventory according to CT. I guess I will run across it eventually. FYI the same bottle (s) picture for the 04 Stags Leap Wine Cellars is the same as the 04 SL Winery! (4838 views)

Tasted by difran on 12/18/2014 & rated 89 points: Drank with other Napa wines. This placed behind beringer private reserve and Montagia. (5915 views)
Tasted by jshearer on 2/11/2014 & rated 90 points: Soft nose of ripe dark red/blue fruit, oak, and a mysteriously fragrant spice/floral/tobacco note. Soft again on entry, with dark fruit and wet earth, and flavors of dark chocolate shavings that finish with fine-grain tannins coating the tongue. (6426 views)
Tasted by Wheelz on 2/14/2013 & rated 92 points: Wonderful complex cab. (3987 views)
Tasted by Gunman on 11/15/2012: Well balanced. Black cherry and currant, some tea and leather. Very fine tannins. Might last a few more years, but drinking beautifully right now. (4385 views)
Tasted by wineshaman on 9/29/2012 & rated 89 points: A little bretty in the nose, with currats/cassis, tea, tobacco, hints of chocolate on the finish. Ready to drink! (4362 views)
Tasted by rbfleming on 8/19/2012 & rated 90 points: Dark fruits, tobacco. Plenty of tannins and nicely balanced. This is a wonderful rich wine (3538 views)
Tasted by tom_wine on 5/13/2012 & rated 85 points: I never thought that these fruit-forward wines would do well in the cellar, but I was surprised that this cabernet hung on to its pedigree after 7 years in the bottle. Dense dark berry fruit, cassis and still sporting some fine tannin. (2981 views)
Tasted by pdicorpo on 3/10/2012 & rated 92 points: Great time to drink this wine. Decanted for 2 hours prior to drinking. Very full bodied, with a hint of coffee and tobaco. Compared in a tasted to a 2002 Cakebread Benchland Select Cab - i liked this one better. (2136 views)
Tasted by alexc on 9/13/2011 & rated 90 points: Beautifully balanced now. Drinking well; only sorry this was the last of my case. (3124 views)

Tasted by Arch57 on 9/25/2010 & rated 91 points: A solid 91 pt effort from an iconic Cali producer. Dark purple in the decanter this paired wonderfully with grilled strip steaks. Jus the right amount of fruit and tannins to match the medium rare meat. A nice wine for a special Saturday night on Satuday Pond Maine with family. (4516 views)
Tasted by duchamp on 7/11/2010 & rated 91 points: (from memory) Dark purple, rich and deep nose of black currant, tobacco, plum and earth, tight on the attack, followed by spicy red and black fruits, tannins and mocha, finish is suave but a bit thin and disjointed (4786 views)
Tasted by BradA on 5/22/2010 & rated 88 points: Popped for burgers and a night of ACDC on dcd---suave, mellow with some sweet tobacco on the finish. Very pleasant and an enjoyable sipper while Bon and Angus rocked on! (5051 views)
Tasted by FPNova on 6/17/2009 & rated 90 points: Drank with friends for dinner. One of the 15 succulent, delicious Napa Valley Stag's Leap appellation Cab's I like so much. Dark red. Nose of plum and earth. Plum & dark cherry flavor with a hint of chocolate and a wonderful chewy mouth feel. Well balanced firm tannins plus a bit of spice and a long finish. This is drinking nicely now but the prominence of tannin indicates this will improve with another 2-3 years time - so I will hold my remaining 3 bottles for a while. (5699 views)
Tasted by Gfritzh on 2/1/2009 & rated 89 points: Needed about an hour in the decanter. A good wine with very firm tannins and a medium finish. Should continue to improve with 2-3 years of additional bottle age. (5882 views)
Tasted by Surferdude on 1/6/2009 & rated 90 points: Very nice!
Maybe a little young, but I was thirsty! Great Cab! (6012 views)
Tasted by pmik on 8/4/2008 & rated 90 points: Dark crimson w. bluish rim. Fairly light nose of cassis. Concentrated but smooth dark berries and notes of chocolate. Not so spicy - nice balance and fairly elegant. Maybe it lacks a little punch... (6137 views)
Tasted by beachnic on 7/24/2008 & rated 90 points: Well made cab with some complexity and overall good mouthfeel to it. Overpriced at $50. Would be very solid in the mid $30ish range. 90+pts (5990 views)
Tasted by Hazeo on 4/27/2008 & rated 91 points: A little fruity (new world) but under control, nice fruit and overall balance. Tannins and oak a little strong, but doesn't upset the overall smoothness. (6536 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 3/14/2008 & rated 90 points: a tasting of new releases: nose: nice nose of dark cherry, other dark fruits, anise, and some oak too

taste: very firm but not overwhelming with anise, dark cherry, cranberry, and oak tones

overall: very well structured and firm with good weight and feel on the palate (3876 views)
Tasted by n8540 on 3/5/2008 & rated 90 points: A little young still, but a solid offering. Great nose and flavor. Tannins are fairly strong on the finish but should mellow with time. (6584 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
