Community Tasting Notes (average 85.4 pts. and median of 86 pts. in 18 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ethralls on 1/22/2010 & rated 88 points: Bright light red to peach hue. Nose of yeast and strawberries. Some blackberry on the palate crisp, but not overly acidic. Short finish (5125 views)
Tasted by curtiy on 8/26/2009 & rated 84 points: Same notes as before, the only difference was tasted more rasperberry on palate this time. (5224 views)
Tasted by curtiy on 8/7/2009 & rated 84 points: Strawberry nose and palate, not much else...cleaning out the cellar of some old bottles, probably waited too long. (5089 views)
Tasted by wineywhites on 3/21/2009 & rated 79 points: Past its prime (5428 views)
Tasted by wineywhites on 2/19/2009 & rated 84 points: Light brick red in the glass, transparent. Nose is of halls cough drops, herbs, and strawberries. On the palate, seems to be on the later stages of life. Fruit is almost gone. What is left is some light structure. Based on the other reviews, it's not clear if my bottle was just not handled well or is just too old to be truly enjoyable. (5177 views)
Tasted by Cabfrancophile on 8/23/2008 & rated 90 points: This was a stunning dry rose from my perspective. The nose was a diverse array of fruit: tropical, strawberry, cherry, watermelon, and even some darker berries came out with some aeration. The finish was incredibly long and enjoyable. Even the mouth feel was spot-on with some light tannins to lend a little structure to the wine. I'm not a big rose drinker, but this one blew me away on every level. (2930 views)
Tasted by whits on 8/6/2008 & rated 86 points: raspberries and cranberries dominate this dry rose, backed with a perfect amount of acid to pair well with an oriental chicken salad, very refreshing (2827 views)
Tasted by agebob on 7/11/2008 & rated 88 points: Very dry with plenty of interesting fruit to intrigue the palate. Strawberries, rasberries and cranberries. The finish is tart and long lasting. A terrific summer wine. (2848 views)
Tasted by Gargantua on 6/10/2008 & rated 87 points: Nose of a bland Thanksgiving: cranberry sauce and salty turkey stuffing somewhere further away, along with typical rosé strawberry, with a sparkling water texture on the tongue attack. A decent soldier: versatile with food; dry; worst flaw is a tiny bit of heat and nail polish, but not a whole lot going on here. Jane liked it. (3194 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 6/1/2008 & rated 87 points: Anita: From Val--see above notes exactly! (984 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 3/22/2008 & rated 87 points: Bri’s: Pretty red-rose/brilliant beaut. dark rose color; minerals, hint earth and strawberry, earthy wine, good complexity, stones and hint garrigue. Fair. (991 views)
Tasted by tendring on 2/21/2008 & rated 80 points: Medium pink.
Slightly leathery nose with fruit in the style of boiled sweets.
Pleasant, good balance, light and refreshing, medium length. (566 views)
Tasted by TheKing on 10/22/2007 & rated 85 points: well balance and refreshing (3451 views)
Tasted by bgibbard on 6/9/2007: Raspberry notes to the nose. Palate fuller than usual, strawberry, pleasant fruit, less herbs than usual for this wine, but quite pleasant. Bet. 1st-2nd tier (5183 views)
Tasted by Northern on 5/20/2007 & rated 87 points: This bottle was better. (4328 views)
Tasted by Northern on 5/13/2007 & rated 84 points: Dark pink colour. Rather muted nose of cranberries, herbs, strawberries. Watery mid-palate, bitter finish. Needs food. (4339 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

Tavel

Wiki article on Tavel AOC.
Grenache and Cinsault are the main grapes used in the appellation's wines, along with Syrah and Mourvedre, although the latter two were not permitted until 1969. Tavel wines are dry and tend to have more body and structure than most rosés. They can be cellared, but are usually drunk young.
