Tasted by Chied on 4/26/2024 & rated 90 points: 90-91 is our joint scoring, but thus is a very good RdD! Great QPR!!

Cheers! (444 views)
Tasted by Nehammer on 3/31/2024: Drank with Foenss and Heidi. Needs more time (853 views)
Tasted by Takao on 3/13/2024 & rated 91 points: Deep ruby color bordering to purple. Med(+) aromas of ripe cherry, plum, ripe strawberry, savory, meat loaf, black pepper, nutmeg. Full body, high alcohol, med(+) acidity, high chewy tannins, med(+) finish. This wine is quite savory, meaty and spicy. Tannins are still quite firm and needs time to soften. Alcohol is a bit high but fruit intensity and acidity balances it just fine. A bit stinky with undesired reduction, too. If opening a bottle now, decant this for 30-60 min at least. 89+

For pairing, I think burgers or Hamburg steak would be good.

Day2: reduction and excessive savory note went away and ripe red fruits are on the front. The wine gained complexity with mint, blood and violet, making it more interesting and balanced. 91+

Day3: the fruit profile is getting darker with cassis and blueberry jam. Spice and savoriness are almost gone so the wine is actually a bit simpler though it drinks well. (1280 views)
Tasted by Grinner on 2/29/2024 & rated 91 points: Winey Weekend With the Woodwards in Woodinville!!; 2/29/2024-3/2/2024 (Where else?): PNP at Water Grill in Bellevue, WA, and didn't touch it for 30'. Open nose of earth, red fruit, tar, leather, spice and slight funk. On the palate, there's a firm texture, somewhat compact, medium body and length. I would try this again in 3-5 years. (1294 views)
Tasted by WineGuyDelMar on 2/17/2024 & rated 90 points: Had enough of this now to know I really don’t care for it. Won’t be buying again. One dimensional and uninteresting. (1443 views)
Tasted by Madera16 on 2/16/2024: Got better with time. Subtle wine, but there’s something to like about it. Well made and without oak, there’s nothing but reserved fruit. Pleasant tannin. (1161 views)
Tasted by ndijss on 2/11/2024 & rated 90 points: Drank from a bordeaux glass, was better than burgundy glass.

At first it had primary red fruit, but after a while in the decanter it evolved into more dark fruit with a hint of smokeyness. Not very complex, lacks a real layered nose and bite in my opinion. I like the wine but won't buy again, the price/quality is way off for me (classic cult-wine syndrome?). (1084 views)
Tasted by Alexander F on 12/25/2023 & rated 90 points: Långt ifrån klassisk. Inget inslag av fat, väldigt hög syra och smak främst av lingon. (1422 views)
Tasted by richshoes on 11/28/2023 & rated 93 points: elegant, refined, feminine, exquisite, multi-layered...dark cherry and plum (1911 views)
Tasted by Pdx_al on 11/20/2023 & rated 91 points: blackberry, leather, plum black fruit. Beautiful wine, lingers nicely on the palate. Wish the tannins would be more round but overall it’s ok. It has a medium body (1617 views)
Tasted by maxima on 5/25/2023 & rated 88 points: Assez corsé mais fort délicieux.
Cerises et épices avec une impression de menthol.
Les tannins sont charnus et la
finale de longueur moyenne.
Très bon. (4202 views)
Tasted by WineGuyDelMar on 5/8/2023 & rated 90 points: Nose is cherries, tar & tire rubber. Bizzare nose to say the least. Fortunately the taste is somewhat better. It has a musty & somewhat oxidized taste. Hard to tell this is Tempranillo. Not as good as the 2018. Maybe a rat got inside the fermenting tank? In a strange way it’s quite acceptable but I don’t remember earlier bottles being this weird. (3403 views)
Tasted by J'agnes on 3/24/2023 & rated 90 points: Clean cork. This was given a vigorous decant after the last bottle which was quite tight from the bottle. Light purple with a surprisingly wide clear rim for the vintage. Nose has ripe cherry with a real menthol/ eucalyptus. Palate is sour cherry and quite resolved tannins. Overall a very drinkable wine but perhaps slightly confected? Would be hard to pick blind as Ribera del Duero. (3374 views)
Tasted by AlejandroAcostaPolo on 3/16/2023: Still very young and tight. Wait at least until 2025. (3343 views)
Tasted by FastTrack on 3/11/2023 & rated 89 points: Everybody’s darling, wine of international style, easy to drink, but nevertheless classy (3223 views)
Tasted by hadukla on 2/9/2023 & rated 85 points: Good, not great. One dimensional. Little bit of an off-putting nose but otherwise a good, easy drink. (2902 views)
Tasted by rexmerlot on 2/8/2023 & rated 90 points: Popped and poured. Still very young. Right out of the bottle still very tight. With time the wine opened up and became very enjoyable. Notes of Black fruits, and dark chocolate. Great wine, but will leave the remaining bottles to the side for awhile, or at least give them a nice decant. (2724 views)
Tasted by corbettgabriel@gmail.com on 1/16/2023: Drank just to open and try it. Off balance - alcohol felt out of place. (1757 views)
Tasted by chatters on 1/14/2023: Spanish fun day one (N&J's place, Canberra): From Coravin. A touch of alcohol prickle, dense dark hued fruit with a little baked quality, touch of pretty whole berry lends jubiness. With time a little toast, meat and strawberry. Juicy, fleshy, baked dark hued fruits with a little red fruit underpin, tannins are drying a touch chalky textured and rather close down the palate, finishes with a lick of alcohol warmth. Hmm. (2824 views)
Tasted by Voodoo_Champagne on 1/10/2023: Finally, after 12 months it settled down, amazing nose, all balanced, taste fruity notes, no sign of oak(can't stand oak)a very nice wine. (2829 views)
Tasted by mattstolz11 on 1/8/2023 & rated 91 points: Not sure where the ‘thin’ or overly acrid comments are coming from here, but maybe I’m just more used to Pinot noirs. This was really nice. Opened about 3-4 hours early and just slow-oxed it. Had a hint of bitterness but that made sense with the overall feel of the wine. Great with a bowl of chili! (2509 views)
Tasted by LeroyHilarious on 1/7/2023 & rated 92 points: Smooth and quite fruity - almost a bit Burgundian. Like it. (2279 views)
Tasted by jwilliams6 on 1/2/2023 & rated 90 points: Medium ruby color with some purple hues. Ripe and fresh red and black fruit. Blackberry, red cherry, strawberry. Savory spice, oregano, pepper. Hint of rose. Baking spices but not overly vanilla. Clay and earth, no stone/minerality. Warm and inviting. On the palate, ripe and tart fruit. Black cherry, raspberry, blackberry. Vegetal greenness. Slight savory spice, pepper. Alcoholic heat is noticeable. Medium plus tannin, acidity, and alcohol. Medium body. Lean, yet powerful. Tannins are grippy. Interesting but not that memorable. (2117 views)
Tasted by hfc on 12/9/2022: Needs a brief decant of half an hour to blow out the bitterness and bring out the aroma. Nothing remarkable after that. (2570 views)
Tasted by Bigcat29 on 11/4/2022 & rated 94 points: Light and fruity and dry. Like a Pinot noir. (2951 views)

Tempranillo

Varietal character (Appellation America) | TAPAS: Tempranillo Advocates, Producers and Amigos Society

Tempranillo is the premium red wine grape variety from the Rioja and Ribera del Duero region in Spain. Tempranillo's aromas and flavors often combine elements of berryish fruit, herbaceousness, and an earthy-leathery minerality. Being low in acidity and sugar content, it is commonly blended with Carignan (Mazuela), Grenache (Garnacha), Graciano, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

WineAccess
The varietal is at its best in top Riojas, where oak aging is employed to generate increased complexity and harmony. From the best sites, these wines can be remarkably concentrated with great aging potential. New wines from this region are darker, and more robust, with more dynamic primary fruit flavors than traditionally styled examples. These wines seem to reflect the influence of Spain's other key region for Tempranillo, Ribera del Duero. Regardless of style, Riojas tend to be medium bodied wines, with more acid than tannins. These wines generally feature Tempranillo blended with Garancha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. For these wines, there are three quality levels, which will appear on the label. Everyday drinking wines fall under the category of "Crianza", "Reserva" denotes more complex and concentrated wines, and "Gran Reserva" refers to the most intense wines, made only in the best years.

The same labeling scheme applies to wines from Ribera del Duero, which, like Rioja, is dominated by Tempranillo and shares similar blending grapes. Again, Ribera del Duero wines are generally darker and more powerful than the most traditional Riojas. These wines also generally see less oak treatment than Riojas. From Rioja, we like wines from Allende, Marqués de Cáceres, Montecillo, and Cune. In Ribera del Duero, consider Dominio de Pingus, Emilio Moro, Convento San Francisco, and Pesquera.
Pair older-style Rioja with simple meats like chicken, leg of lamb, and pork loin. However, the newer style of Rioja and Ribera del Duero works especially well with bolder meat dishes or an aged Spanish cheese like Manchego or Idiazabal.

Spain

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
