Tasted by mowtod on 1/4/2022: Used for ‘Gluhwein’ but actually still holding and tasty (440 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 9/15/2018 & rated 90 points: Coravin 9/15/18: aromatic, nice integrated spice, sweet with just a bit of pepper; palate is medium bodied, nice medium acidity, medium-plus alcohol, fully integrated medium tannins; medium length. Good, clean, recognizably syrah, good integration and at a good stage of maturity. Better integrated alcohol than my last bottles, and this is better than my last one in 2016. 90
With air, a bit of heat and excess alcohol shows. Still not bad, but not one to search out. (1274 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 12/2/2016 & rated 88 points: Dinner @ Home (Fremont, CA): Deep ruby-purple color; moderately aromatic nose with soft spice, red fruit, slight garrigue that comes out with thought and concentration; palate is medium bodied, medium acid, medium-plus alcohol that comes across as just a tad hot, medium tannins that are still a bit prominent, red fruit appears to be fading into the background; medium finish. Compared to my last bottle 2 years ago, the fruit has receded and not much has come to take its place, so that gives the structure a bit less balance. Drinkable, pairs well with food, but not one to search out. I will drink my last within the next 1-2 years. 88
With 1.5 hours air, a bit more spice and aromatic complexity, but it still has a bit excess heat on the palate. Not bad. 88-89 (1876 views)
Tasted by dsimmons on 2/1/2016 & rated 93 points: Last bottle.
delicious (2567 views)
Tasted by llink on 11/29/2015 & rated 88 points: PnP. Fairly deep nose of high toned red fruit, a savory element, white pepper, spicy oak and cured meat. This also comes across as a little hot. Medium weight palate with a decent amount of acididity. Nicely done. (2422 views)
Tasted by sancarlosdoc on 8/17/2015 & rated 90 points: Still a good syrah. PnP at restaurant and a hit with everyone. In a good place. (2319 views)
Tasted by DollarMenunaire on 1/19/2015 & rated 85 points: Low energy like I find in a lot of RRV Pinots these days. Grapey and wants for more earth and aromatic interest. Disappointing. Certainly screams of something that was flashy and impressive to critics in its youth. (2000 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 8/31/2014 & rated 91 points: Deep purple-ruby color; deep nose, dense concentration of blueberry, blackberry fruit, ripe but not alcoholic; palate is full bodied, nice complex density of fruit and good depth but still primary; medium-long finish. Excellent quality, unabashedly new world but balanced and not hot, and still very young. Likely has 5-10 years left and I'm looking forward to the next two bottles. 91
Update: 1 hour air. Showing a bit more character on the nose and palate, slight minerality, slight smokiness. Very nice. Bumping up to 91-92; still has years. (1807 views)
Tasted by skinut on 8/2/2014 & rated 92 points: In a really nice place. I regret this is my last bottle. Tannins fully resolved while the fruit remains bright with good depth. Good weight on the palate with good depth mostly on the mid and back palate. Finish is lingering with medium length. Drink up. (1268 views)
Tasted by tomlee on 5/20/2014 & rated 92 points: Purple in color. 14.8% ABV. Powerful nose of red fruits, flower and pepper. Full bodied with medium acidity. Cherries, meat, lavender, spice and blackberries on the palate. Great texture. Rich and unctuous. The wine is in a great place right now. Drink over the next year or two. (1447 views)
Tasted by llink on 8/6/2013 & rated 89 points: Nose shows red berries and flowers of all things, very atypical for Syrah. The palate still shows very young and tightly wound with crisp acidity and definition. The texture and acidity remind me of a Northern Rhone wine. I like this paired with a meat dish to buffer the acid. (1709 views)
Tasted by dabovino on 4/15/2013 & rated 93 points: Excellent wine, well balanced with dark fruit and spice. Medium to long finish. Drinking very well right now. Love this wine. (1464 views)
Tasted by Schwarzer Hund on 2/20/2013: Very dark red, earthy dark fruit nose, medium weight, dense cherry & red berry fruit, very smooth in mouth, tannins are well integrated, lengthy finish. Wine is in great shape. Wine is another great value from Dehlinger. (1287 views)
Tasted by dabovino on 2/3/2013 & rated 92 points: Dark color, dark berries and spice on the nose. Very smooth and well balanced. Drinking very nicely right now. Delicious. (1263 views)
Tasted by puppetclause on 8/4/2012 & rated 90 points: Third bottle of the night, so definitely not the most astute notes. Slightly vegetal at this stage, rhubarb was the term of the night for this wine. Balanced, definitely has some of the components to be well put together, but we possibly didn't give it any time. About a 20 minute decant, then consumed over an hour. Gained stems and earthiness over the hour. (1503 views)
Tasted by Counselor Chris on 7/12/2012 & rated 93 points: Velvety, pure berry fruit leaning to the red side, and very feminine. Another great wine from Dehlinger. Maybe a touch riper than the typical Dehlinger owing to the 2004 vintage. (1554 views)
Tasted by pinotwinelover on 1/29/2012 & rated 91 points: Soft, elegant and dark. Blackberry and soft tannins. VG (1650 views)
Tasted by suthersm on 11/15/2011 & rated 90 points: Excellent. When I've drank these early I've found them to be a bit disjointed and acidic but this is really well integrated now. Plenty of concentration and fruit. Really has a silky smoothness. (1793 views)
Tasted by MJTed on 11/12/2011 & rated 91 points: Showing well at age 7. elegant, soft and silky but with sufficient concentration and depth. blue fruit, with a finish of graphit, tobacco and pepper (1582 views)
Tasted by blaine on 9/17/2011 & rated 92 points: Fantastic, much better than the last bottle. In a great spot, lots of life left. (1479 views)
Tasted by pismo45 on 7/4/2011 & rated 91 points: Nose of blackberries. Medium body with crunchy dark fruit with a little pepper and spices. Still a lot of tannin - coats the mouth. Nice but bound to get better. (1568 views)
Tasted by Jack on 6/2/2011 & rated 91 points: From the get-go very soft and slightly sweet. A little alcoholic on the finish but smooth and good. As the night wore on everything balanced and blended together very well. (1602 views)
Tasted by iar on 3/21/2011 & rated 93 points: Drinking beautifully. Last bottle, wish I had more. (1958 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 3/10/2011 & rated 92 points: Delicious blackberry aromas and flavors with hints of tobacco, spice and pepper that culminate with chewy tannins. (1782 views)
Tasted by 6831 on 2/14/2011 & rated 88 points: Big, dense midpalate but devoid of much fruit flavors. Blunted, dull finish as well. Not an exciting wine tonight. (1897 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
