Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.9 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 8 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Aravind Asok on 3/31/2024: Pop and pour. Will follow over a few days. On the nose: lees, dense peach, soft guava, a touch of flowers. On the palate: fantastic acid up front, grapefruit and sour apple, soft peach, loads of wet stone and dense lemon kicks in, then a hi-toned, tangy finish. Maybe a touch short right now. (746 views)
Tasted by Klugi Wine on 1/13/2024 & rated 93 points: Quite complex Riesling.
Bouquet of lemon, burned caramel, a little petrol, spring flowers and some herbs. Needed some time to open up (better on day 2).
Medium bodied with a good inner tension and quite a long finish. Will have quite a future ahead. (947 views)
Tasted by p.bechthold on 12/23/2023 & rated 92 points: seems quite ripe in the nose, but I grade this as typical PJK style with long ageing on the lees and no fear of oxygen, round style with some acidity, ripe fruit (apples, yellow fruit), nuts, good concentration and length, better with air (808 views)
Tasted by JensAgo on 7/28/2022 & rated 93 points: Grande! Notes as per 26 March 2022. (1538 views)
Tasted by Ramberg on 6/23/2022 & rated 92 points: A really fine GG from P-J Kühn.
Nose with flowers and citrus, touch of slate and petrol.
Apples shows with time in the glass.
Palate is young and yet to be unleashed in full.
Apples, stone fruits, fresh grapefruit, green grapes.
very good concentration with nice balance between the fine young fruit and the acidity.
Very young but already full of pleasure.
Will keep my remaining bottle for as long as I can manage (hopefully at least 5 years) as I believe that this has much more in store.
92 - 94 (582 views)
Tasted by JensAgo on 3/26/2022 & rated 93 points: Yet another excellent dry Riesling from PJK. Light golden in appearance. Expressive nose showcasing ripe yellow apples, early hints of petroleum, the tropics in terms of peach, just a touch of citrus and lime. Round and rich mouthfeel (medium+-bodied), excellent fruit, medium+ acidity to keep freshness. V good, mineralic length on this one. (1505 views)
Tasted by pmik on 8/20/2021 & rated 93 points: High acidity and concentration. Bottled in July 2021 so some oak notes (but less than Klosterberg 2019).Wait 5 years and will peak even later. Store for up to 20 years (1570 views)

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)

Rheingau

VDP Rheingau (Official site) | The Rheingau (Wines of Germany) | Wikipedia about The Rheingau
On weinlagen.info

The small but fine wine-growing area Rheingau offers one for the culture of the vine ideal microclimate and best soil conditions. The Rhine runs uninterruptedly almost one thousand kilometres from Basel up to its muzzle into the North Sea, in a northerly direction. With a short exception - the Rheingau. The Rheingau mountains force the river to a change in direction here. The vineyards falling in this region to the south stretch really to the sun. The king of the white wines, the Riesling, finds ideal local conditions for the unfolding of his fine fruity and elegant type of vine character on the multilayered weathering grounds with loess, loam and sand additions.
