Tasted by rdk8 on 5/6/2021 & rated 88 points: Disappointing -- this was way over the hill, "disintegrated" is the best word to describe it, consistent with the previous review. (871 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 11/22/2020 & rated 87 points: Medium bright gold, aging going on here; nutty, alcohol levels up after the Oregon Chards, raw alcohol notes, slight bitter finish, disjointed IMHO. I didn't like it, I think it fell apart probably 5 years ago.
This made 3rd place in the group but for me placed 2nd to last.
Curious.

Tasted by WildeMeeuw on 9/6/2019 & rated 95 points: Kleur: Medium goudgeel Aroma / bouquet: Een indrukwekkend complexe explosie van rijpe aroma's. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 13 + Smaak / Afdronk: 18 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 95/100

Google Translate:

Color: Medium golden yellow Aroma / bouquet: An impressive complex explosion of ripe aromas. First of all: a complete range of over-ripe fruit such as pineapple, banana and mango. But also wax and candle wax. Roasted (beech) nuts, cinnamon. Taste / Aftertaste: This wine is also beautifully complex on the palate. At the right serving temperature, the acid content is more than sufficient. Very nice balance. Filming mouthfeel. Retronasal impressions of overripe mango, wax, cinnamon and refined wood. Impressively long aftertaste. General / potential: In the past, it was fought whether Napa-Chardonnay could compete with the highest Burgundy from the Côte d'Or. As far as I'm concerned, this fight is decided. The most beautiful Chardonnays in the world come from Burgundy and California, both with their own character. Kistler is one of the best producers of Napa-Chardonnays with an impressive aging potential. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 13 + Taste / Finish: 18 + General / potential: 9 = 95/100 (1176 views)
Tasted by beej on 6/9/2019: Had last bottle last night.
Agree w previous notes.
Not all these kistler vineyard wines have faired as well. (1074 views)
Tasted by D.Callahan on 4/4/2019 & rated 94 points: This Kistler has really come into its own. Amber with age, beautiful secondary notes, nuts, brioche and excellent length went outstandingly with Mediterranean sea bass at the Dock. (600 views)
Tasted by jsebiri on 3/18/2018: Excellent. Dollars per bottle, age-worthy, chardonnay , not sure others are worthy. (771 views)
Tasted by sunalsorises on 8/18/2017 & rated 92 points: Very mature in color. Acidity is somewhat tapered on the finish. Good concentration of tropical fruit notes. Very nice. (868 views)
Tasted by budman on 9/7/2014 & rated 92 points: I think this one is just a little bit over the hill... but it was tasty!!! (2436 views)
Tasted by lebo9968@gmail.com on 5/31/2014 & rated 92 points: Interesting. If I didn't know what this wine was, I'd guess it to be a high quality sauvignon blanc. Very acidic and dry with lots of powdery limestone mouth feel. Lots of light, bright tropical fruits on nose and palate. Grapefruit, fresh-cut grass, hay. It has a longer and slightly heavier palate, where it shows more of the typical Kistler weight. Not sure how I feel about this. It has evolved over the years, but in an unexpected way. I like it; it's a great tasting wine, with great structure, but if it drinks like a sauvignon blanc, should I be happy I paid $80 for it direct from the vineyard? (2458 views)
Tasted by mfriedman12 on 12/25/2013 & rated 91 points: Had this out for Christmas but only got a tiny taste as my guests drained it before I had the chance. Tis the season! Very nice, fruit still going strong. The last of my 2005 Kistlers (2653 views)
Tasted by Edclr on 5/23/2013 & rated 90 points: Starting to get a bit towards that somewhat oxidized stage - prefer a bit fresher, although still a very good wine. (3001 views)
Tasted by Edclr on 12/29/2012 & rated 95 points: Easily my favorite of the Kistler lineup year in and out. The Carneros fruit shows itself with a much more Burgundian flavor palate than their others (3064 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 11/3/2012 & rated 93 points: Greenish gold color. Aromas of tropical fruits, nutmeg, lychee and citrus oils. Ripe, ful-bodied but well-balanced fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Very silky and intense on the palate with well-integrated oak. A delicious wine just now entering its peak drinking period. (1775 views)
Tasted by briquette on 4/14/2012 & rated 95 points: buttery and elegant. not a big chard fan but this was really good (2012 views)
Tasted by jeff nowak on 3/26/2012 flawed bottle: Corked.

Tasted by Stefanos T. on 3/18/2012 & rated 91 points: Full bodied wine with oaky, vanilla aftertaste. Medium acidity and medium intensity of nose. Either on its way down or I was expecting more. (1655 views)
Tasted by jbaron on 12/18/2011 & rated 93 points: Quite good. Not in decline that I can see, but on the flip side, I have never really found Kistler wines to improve markedly. Reticent nose, huge round mouth with a Kistler atypical note of green pear or citrus, and an extended, if amorphous, length. (1788 views)
Tasted by jeff nowak on 9/5/2011 & rated 90 points: wanted to try this again, and performance markedly better than previously indicated. still not the best example/vintage of this usually well focused chard from the cooler climate vineyard. (2327 views)
Tasted by jeff nowak on 7/27/2011: ordinarily, i'm quite keen on this vinyard designate from kistler, but this bottle was tepid and seemed out of whack. far from undrinkable, but well below my expected standard. (2265 views)
Tasted by AccaDacca on 7/4/2011 & rated 92 points: Full, rich, with beautiful color. Some citrus and slight hint of oak. Wonderful w/lobster on the 4th of July. (2054 views)
Tasted by lebo9968@gmail.com on 7/3/2011 & rated 93 points: Drinking very nicely, but should last. Typical Kistler - classic Kistler nose. Rich full and round palate. (2065 views)
Tasted by wine maestro on 4/1/2011 & rated 94 points: Extraordinary Chardonnay with amazing core of ripe fruit combined with deft
balance and finesse. Complex ripe pear and vanilla bean accented by dashes
of nutmeg in the background. A silky, creamy texture gaines velocity heading
towards an expressive and cascading finish highlighted by creme brulee and
spice. Citrus and oak meld together nicely. Sensational now, but able to go
into next year with ease. Served with seared sesame scallops and spring
greens. Lisa's 50th birthday - Newbury Park. (2417 views)
Tasted by fredb on 3/9/2011: Green gold color with slight cloudiness from a typical (for a Kistler) yeast deposit that got stirred up a bit upon pouring. Shy nose of lemon bar, toasted hazelnuts, flowers, a hint of marshmallow and a hint of sea breeze. Palate is completely dominated by harsh oak in the form of bitter toasted bread and vanilla bean. With time, this opens a bit to show lemon, marshmallow, saline elements, and a slight floral characteristic, but the oak never recedes enough to bring it into balance. Better days in the past for this one for my tastes. Drink up. (2420 views)

2005 Kistler Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard

MARK BIXLER NOTES FROM MAILER: Green-tinged pale yellow. Pungent burgundian nose featuring minerals, sulfides, and hazelnut. Densely packed and tactile, with superb richness, concentration, and a deep core of spice. The long finish gives a palate-staining impression of extract. Delicious now.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Napa / Sonoma

SONOMA: The Yorkville Highlands AVA, approved in 1998, is located in the southwestern corner of Mendocino County, between Sonoma County's Alexander Valley to the South and Mendocino County!s Anderson Valley to the North. The region is 25 miles long, roughly in the shape of rectangle and bisected by Highway 128 which runs the length of the AVA. The region!s terrain is hilly and forested, with elevations ranging from 1,078 to 2,442 feet above sea level.
The distinguishing features of the Yorkville Highlands AVA are rocky soils with a high gravel content and the climate, which is cooler than Alexander Valley but warmer than Anderson Valley, and significantly cooler at night than the surrounding areas.
