Corks soft and wine 2/5 up the cork. Time to drink up. (389 views) | | Tasted by PAWS on 11/7/2020: Beautiful tonight. Great nose, fruit still there and wonderful full long finish. This is aged nicely. (1062 views) | | Tasted by ravbik on 12/12/2018 & rated 90 points: Very good wine overall still has some life left (1391 views) | | Tasted by Drinking Trees on 12/25/2016 & rated 85 points: Nose of vinegar and charred firewood. Light-to-medium-bodied mouthfeel. Acidity is good but the tannins have broken down: they're grainy and sandy, and don't provided structure. Flavours of blackcurrant and sweet balsamic vinegar. pleasant aroma of red fruits, floral. on palate, pretty balanced acidity and fine tannin, medium to full body, licorice, rich and good texture. (3028 views) | | Tasted by sh on 7/5/2014 & rated 89 points: Dark red, full bodied, not very fruity, leather, tobacco, some mineral, nice aftertaste (2806 views) | | Tasted by JBornemisza on 4/27/2014: Finally had the backup to get into this wine. Deep, structured, mineral in the direction of lead and almost gun powder. Yet it has the fines to show some floral notes, licorice and clove spices. Thick on the palate, luscious on the after taste, lots of mocha, caramel and still some fruit showing. (2226 views) | | Tasted by sethmorgenlong on 4/8/2013: Rich, textural, extracted with powerful fruit, spice, savory mocha and leather. Quaffable. (2955 views) | | Tasted by brainchasm on 8/30/2011 & rated 90 points: Pretty powerful vegetal aromas after a bit of decanting. I called it green bell pepper, better palates picked up a brine and called it green olive. Wasn't bad, but pretty unexpected. Calmed down and smoothed out after an hour. (3371 views) | | Tasted by Hoze on 5/21/2011 & rated 92 points: Smooth and wonderful with steak. reminds me of a less expensive Caymus Cabernet with hints of vanilla. (2476 views) |

CLARENDON HILLS
Inspired by the classic South Australian wines of the 1950s and 1960s, particularly Penfolds, the visionary Roman Bratasiuk, a former biochemist, bought the old Elysium winery at Blewitt Springs, near Clarendon in McLaren Vale. By chance he found the nearby 10 acre Astralis Vineyard as a source of "as good as you can get" Shiraz. The vines were first planted in 1920 with 19th century colonial vine-stock derived from Chateau Reynella. Best known for the flagship wine Astralis Syrah, Clarendon Hills also produces a portfolio of single vineyard age-worthy Grenache & Syrah wines derived from 35 to 75-year-old dry grown vines, from the Clarendon, Blewitt Springs and Kangarilla sub-regions of McLaren Vale.Clarendon Hills Cabernet Sauvignon SandownSandown Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
The ethereal Sandown Cabernet Sauvignon site is planted to Reynella clone pre-phylloxera vines and exhibits a classic style where a masterful polish is clearly evident. Deeply flavoured and pure cassis fruit profile meets lead pencil, sage and bay leaf across mineral charcoal and slate woven throughout deftly handled extract only the world’s finest barrels are capable of producing. The power and majesty are seamlessly controlled in this highly restrained yet amazingly approachable, plush tannins. The single vineyard was planted in the 1930’s and is home to some of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in McLaren Vale. The Sandown Cabernet is our flagship Cabernet and has been continuously made since 1998.Cabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonAustralia Wine Australia (Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation) | Australian Wines (Wikipedia)South Australia South Australian Wine Industry Association | South Australian Wines (Wikipedia)Fleurieu Fleurieu Wineries & Cellar Doors (southaustralia.com) |
