 Tasted by Raizes on 9/16/2023 & rated 92 points: 陈年状态出色,呈现出相当丰富的黑色水果和丁香、八角、雪茄、烟丝的香气,还有少许的皮革和菌菇。均衡、集中、单宁细腻,在浓郁享乐和古典优雅之间维持了极好的平衡。并不是一款个性鲜明的酒,但绝对是可靠、中正和愉悦的选择。 (1398 views)
Tasted by MJP Hou TX on 3/25/2023 & rated 94 points: We're told the sign of a great winemaker/vineyard team is making great wine in a tough vintage. And, let's assume 25 years later flaws would be hard to hide. The 1998 Eisele has all notable silky tannins, bramble, tobacco, leather, star anise but lacks a little on sweet cassis that I found in 92, 95 & 96. I'm splitting hairs as I've had the pleasure of drinking some profound vintages as of late.

Stand alone and without comparison of the 95 the night before, this bottle definitely holds it's own. The recent 92 was a a ha and a 96 I drank from a mag with Francoise. I ask Peschon if she had a favorite vintage. She listed the most difficult ones. This bottle proves it.

If opening I personally don't recommend a decant of any of these wines from the 90's. The evolution in the glass is perfect.

Very little sediment.

Tasted by Bosbevok on 3/19/2023 & rated 96 points: Brick and clay edges with a garnet belly. Beautiful Napa Cabernet with cigar box, old leather but still lots of concentrated fruit notes at this nature stage. Wine is perfectly in equilibrium. Long finish with lots of balanced and fine tannin. Also some lingering anise wiffs. (1566 views)
Tasted by Lipsman on 10/24/2022 & rated 97 points: A w-o-w Cabernet. Explosive flavors of brambly berries, moist earth, and leather, with notes of black cherry and subtle anise. Exceptional finish. A spectacular example of Eisle fruit. Takes an hour to fully open up, but can be enjoyed without decanting. Now - 2032. (2048 views)
Tasted by Pitkin_CT on 5/24/2022 & rated 90 points: This wine was just ok, and a disappointment from a reputation and cost perspective. Tasty, good fruit and interesting finish, but nothing you can find from a good $30 bottle. Opened for a special dinner with the family and wish I had chosen something else. (2263 views)
Tasted by Mdog on 11/13/2021 & rated 96 points: Initially extremely closed. Pulled cork tasted left upright in cellar for 4 hrs then 30 min in glass. The reward for waiting was a stunning wine, subtle complex structured with lingering finish. Wine seemed to gain body with air.
Nose: subtle spice, rose, cedar with dark red fruit as it developed
Initially smooth tannin and tea with raspberry or pomegranate which gave way to dark cherry and subtle hits of unsweetened cocoa powder as the wine came into its glory which lasted on the finish
This wine was reminiscent of a mature Bordeaux rather than a typical Napa cab in complex subtlety. Shared with friends over dinner with other great bottles but almost would have preferred to spend the evening just sipping and exploring the amazing bottle this was. (2641 views)
Tasted by herbaceous on 11/4/2021 & rated 92 points: dark fruit perfume. progressively more syrupy as the bottle went by, ton of sediment (2250 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 9/26/2021 & rated 94 points: Excellent, mature but not old California cab that consistently has shown longevity. Savory nose, dried cherry, tea, grilled meat and soft tannins. (2594 views)
Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 9/26/2021 & rated 97 points: Gorgeous. Typical at peak Napa cab. Dusty cherry, touch raspberry, grilling herbs, chocolate, no green notes or signs of a wet vintage etc. Tobacco and rose. Tannins are gone. Drink ASAP (2161 views)
Tasted by JJB007 on 7/22/2021 & rated 99 points: this is smooth and everyone was like wow (2240 views)
Tasted by Rbtrage on 5/14/2021 & rated 95 points: 5th bottle of the night. A birthday dinner with friends at Bobby Vans. Bettina, Dominus, Sassicaia and Quilceda. All strong wines, but this off vintage Araujo was my WOTN. Shared with the waiter and other diners sitting next to our table. One of them told me it was his second all time best wine after Margaux. Dont know I would rate this that high but to be honest we were all pretty drunk before popping this wine. Have to open another bottle soon to see if this wine is actually that good. (1520 views)
Tasted by Jay Hack on 3/13/2020 & rated 92 points: Decanted for an hour. Followed for 3 more. This was blind to me - Rebecca opened it and decanted before I got home. Note that 1998 was a vintage with a horrible reputation but patience has been rewarded. By blind guess was a well-aged wine - either from the left bank or from California. I said it tasted more like a heavy cabernet based Bordeaux but guessed it was probably a Cali Cab just knowing what we have more of in our cellar.

Not fruit driven. Earthy, a bit of smooth saddle leather, light spice, a bit of red fruit. MY son's comment was telling. He said it was good but he likes it when it is a bit sweeter. I think what he really meant was that he likes it a bit more powerful with stronger fruit giving it the appearance of sweetness. This wine "suffers" from being elegant, which, I think, is the result that you get in California in a "bad" year. I just looked at the temperature data for 1998 on the Napa Valley Vintners website. Overall a cool year, relatively speaking. More like Bordeaux than traditional Napa. (3453 views)
Tasted by Bwalter17 on 9/30/2019 & rated 94 points: Crazy that this is supposedly a bad vintage. Has several years left on it. (3329 views)
Tasted by Lord of the Bottles on 5/17/2019 & rated 95 points: Judgement of Exchange Arcade: California vs Bordeaux (RA's take): WOTN for me and most of the other tasters that evening. Stewed fruit nose. Gamey red fruit. Medium plus to long finish. Everything you want in a Bordeaux blend, in fact while we guessed it was Napa it could easily be mistaken for a Bordeaux left bank. (4054 views)
Tasted by Lipsman on 4/2/2019 & rated 93 points: Balanced and saturated Cabernet showing integrated tannins with a smooth finish. Not particularly complex, though enjoyable. (3618 views)
Tasted by MikeATL on 11/14/2018 & rated 93 points: Very pretty classic California cabernet, pure fruit with just a touch of pyrazines with air bringing complexity, it could use a little more structure but is otherwise in a very good place. (4315 views)
Tasted by faivre_eric on 6/12/2018 & rated 94 points: In very good shape!
Lovely black fruit and dark cherry nose with leather tobacco nose.
Amazing balance and more complex than expected. (3516 views)
Tasted by MAXIMUM SATISFACTION on 12/30/2016 & rated 94 points: Quick 1 hour decant. Really improved and pack on depth as a couple hours passed. Fully integrated tannins with structure starting to weaken. Jammy blue/black fruit and cherry liqueur with some leathery earth but overall not a lot of secondary notes. Won't improve from here. (6153 views)
Tasted by wa2ofd on 12/4/2016 & rated 89 points: Young and bright...last btl (5164 views)
Tasted by jerhardt on 11/14/2016 & rated 93 points: A really nice cab. Elegant, polished, and without flaws for a lesser year. In short, I would probably choose this over a "better" year. Ready to roll now, but I'd like to see how it evolves. (5155 views)
Tasted by tmhouse on 8/11/2016 & rated 94 points: Needs a little time top open up. We did a 9-hour slow on (whole bottle to a decanter then back into the bottle minus sediment and then re-sealed) and it still needed 20 mins in the glass to shed the acidic bright flavored and show the true dark fruit and great balance. Beautiful nose, wonderful layers of complex dark fruit and a great finish. The acididity would portend a few years left but it drinks right now as a mature as good as it gets great cab. (5628 views)
Tasted by wa2ofd on 6/21/2015 & rated 93 points: Had over 2 nights, much better the 2nd which was 3 days after the open...underrated... (6586 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 6/11/2015: Araujo Dinner, Mostly Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard (Milwalky Trace - Libertyville IL): In 97/98//99/00 flight. I found this interesting and enjoyable, but not at the level I should expect from a top producer in an average vintage. (5434 views)
Tasted by spectrumphoto on 5/21/2015 & rated 96 points: Showing quite nice. Still has a good number of years of life but it is a mature wine. Time to drink up as its in the back side of prime. (4438 views)
Tasted by tcosgriff on 2/23/2015 & rated 88 points: Purple color with slightly brown rim. Starts with a lot of cassis with a hint of eucalyptus, but fades quite quickly after opening, likely a reflection of age. Drink up. (4940 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
