| Community Tasting Notes (average 86.1 pts. and median of 87 pts. in 12 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by wabi47 on 12/6/2016 & rated 84 points: apricot, must and a floral component. Somewhat viscous, sweet and a bit plodding, given the low acidity. Interesting, but not my style. (992 views) | | Tasted by Wine Poor on 10/15/2012 & rated 89 points: Smelled of pears with an overripe fruit overtone. Deep straw colour. A bit of botrytis nature at this point a result of its age. A nice aperitif. (2198 views) | | Tasted by jeward on 12/25/2009 & rated 88 points: Brilliant golden color. Well balanced with a bit of sweetness. Served with Christmas dinner, and it held up well to the mishmash of dishes on the table. (3201 views) | | Tasted by awinestory on 3/25/2009 & rated 92 points: clear, med intensity, gold, nose: clean yet somewhat oxidized aroma, apricot and other ripe yellow fleshed fruit palate: dry, acid is med, tannin from skin, body med alc est 13, length med + finish of ripe dried and fresh peach, apricot, spice pair with: cheeses from retion (3114 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 2/21/2009: golden yellow colored with flowers and spicy apples on the nose. zesty acid, but it's not too much. this is a plumper, riper styled gewurtz with a bit of sweetness. it's very well-balanced though, with pineapples, green apples and minerals. just a hint of spice. a good intro gewurz. (3451 views) | | Tasted by WineKnurd on 1/28/2009 & rated 75 points: Popped and poured. Beautiful golden color. Nose of lychee fruit and hints of something floral. The CT consensus is roses but I could not directly identify. If you think all Alsacian Gewurz is dry, think again. The sweetness caught me off guard. Imagine the syrup from canned peaches in heavy syrup. Now imagine instead of peaches it was canned lychee in heavy syrup. Now take a lemon-honey celestial seasonings tea bag and seep it in the lychee syrup. Sounds great right? It comes off like lychee flavored Southern Comfort. I rate it a C for wine style quality (there are plenty of better sweet Gewurz's across the Rhine) and a C for value (I don't know that I would drink this wine if YOU gave me $16), for an over all rating of C. (CMS 75) (2870 views) | | Tasted by ashegedyn on 12/1/2008 & rated 89 points: Wonderful aromas of roses pineapple and spice. Delicious on taste with nice medium finish. Apple, pineapple, rose, and a bit of spice. (1806 views) | | Tasted by RajivAyyangar on 10/29/2008 & rated 84 points: Med + gold in the glass. En pointe nose of strong rose petals, hints of sour lychee, luscious fruit. Faintly honeyed, sweet quality on nose. Good midpalate aromatics. Med acid, med sweetness, med bitterness, med/med+ body, med- finish. Not bad. pleasant to drink. Not a stunning QPR. (2911 views) | | Tasted by hutch on 12/18/2007 & rated 86 points: A little too sweet, without the acidity backing it up. Some of the floral and spicy notes of gewurz, but difficult to justify the $20+ pricetag, considering what else is available from Alsace at the same level. (2197 views) | | Tasted by FjordogFjell on 4/20/2007 & rated 83 points: 160 NOK. Anbefalt av Bølgen. Til blå ost. Petroleum, aprikos, gress, fast lang ettersmak. 5 dager i flaske: Lukt av roser og parfyme, lavendel. Spennende med en gang, kanskje god til røykt blåkveite. (199 views) |
