Tasted by Bronson Meadows on 4/13/2024: Holds up despite being past its prime. Little mushroom smell dissipates after it airs. Plum and cherry and some leather notes beautiful follow through light not overpowering. (148 views)
Tasted by Bronson Meadows on 4/13/2024: Dinner with Cristiane (138 views)
Tasted by Ernestas on 4/12/2024 & rated 93 points: Tasting at Tenuta San Leonardo, great experience to taste their newest addition of 2019 side by side with ripe and fully developed 2001. A blend of 60% CS, 30% Carmenere and 10% Merlot, aged for 24 months in new, 2nd & 3rd use FR oak barrels. Deep garnet colour. Intense complex aroma of cassis, prunes, blood, tobacco, leather, potpourri whiffs. Medium+ body, multilayered flavour profile dance of fruit and tertiaries, still in a great shape. Well integrated bright acidity in sync with medium+ velvety tannins. (130 views)
Tasted by GuWin on 3/14/2023 & rated 90 points: BYO Centropa "vin utenfor Frankrike" (Centropa, Oslo, Norway): Dyp, mørk rød. (1050 views)
Tasted by AWBryce on 3/12/2023: Very nice, maybe a bit advanced, nice fruit and complex nose. Good mouth feel, balanced (748 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 2/6/2022: Super Bowl 2022 (Alpharetta, GA): Cloudy dark core with thin purple rim; dark fruit, plush, purple fruit, violets, meaty and rich, chocolate, eucalyptus, herbaceous, rounded tannins, touch of bacon fat, wet earth, truffle, very Bordeaux; '05 Domaine de Chevalier? (465 views)
Tasted by Francophile1 on 2/6/2022: Super Bowl 2022 (Alpharetta, GA): Tasted blind. Maybe it was palate fatigue, but I couldn't place this wine. A decent wine, but just confusing. (1498 views)
Tasted by Wine Diplomats on 2/3/2022 & rated 93 points: Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Cabernet Franc 15%, Carmenère 15% and Merlot 10%. However, at this time and up until 2008, they labeled their Carmenere Cabernet Franc because similar to Chile’s story, they didn’t know it was Carmenere until the late 90’s and they had to keep it secretly labeled as Carmenere for another 10 years to stay within the parameters of the regional rules. By the way, they do make a single varietal Carmenere-one of the few producers to do so outside of Chile-that I’ve been dying to try.

Still pretty youthful with well-integrated primary and secondary notes. Cedar and spice. Sweet spices. Savoury herbs and spices. Mint. Cinnamon. Meaty flavors. The most acidity and tannins between the 3 wines as the youngest. The most complexity. Just starting to get tertiary notes. Drinking well but could soften up and gain complexity with a little more time depending how you like your wines. Definitely more elegant in style compared to big name Italian Bordeaux blends like Solaia though. Around 90,000 bottles produced. 93+

Tasted by 5laton on 8/7/2021: Back on form, this was delicious and kept improving steadily through the night. Based on this bottle, this vintage now appears to be fully mature and perhaps slightly past peak for the lovers of fruit. For me however there is so much interesting savory development, and the texture is still developing. I think this 2001 has better freshness but less concentration (and presumably, longevity) than some of the vintages I've drunk from the 90s. Nonetheless I'll hold my last bottle until around 2024 or so. (649 views)
Tasted by 5laton on 5/13/2020 flawed bottle: This was a singleton purchased from WineBid, and dammit it's cooked. Cork shows about 20% travel of old/dried wine. Baked red fruit with a strong BBQ quality and some celery salt. Very tired whereas pristine bottles of this are still approaching the peak. (344 views)
Tasted by cephomer on 4/22/2020: Popped & poured last nite with what-turned-out-to-be a very spicy pasta dish. Coffee aromas on the nose. Medium body, showing some age at the edges. On the palate, nuances of espresso, tobacco, dust and earth. I notice some green pepper here as well. Fruit not quite as ripe as I recall, and seemed almost a bit vegetal (as in Cab Franc). Could be due to the spicy pasta dish. I'll be finishing the bottle today, so let's see where this leads. (2063 views)
Tasted by cbforever1 on 1/16/2020 & rated 94 points: Very primary still, hold easily 5 more years (2003 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 10/1/2019: Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Black core with thin pale maroon rim; green coffee, espresso, vanilla, iodine-ish, coffee bean, rusty, fresh plum, clay, earth, a little modern, ripe fruit, peppery; seems like a luxuriously oaked Italian with some green notes that almost leads me to Chile, considered Paleo and Scrio; showing quite youthful for age. (2650 views)
Tasted by mhudes on 1/13/2019 & rated 92 points: At Walter's house to watch NFL divisional playoffs. . PnP. Crimson red in color. Cherries and tobacco on the nose. Initially there was some acidity and chalkiness on the palate which quickly dissipated. Now come cherries, berries, cedar, cocoa and some lead pencil. Ever changing spices with the wine remaing intense upon completion.(It went nicely with our pasta Bolognese.) Still seems youthful. (2443 views)
Tasted by pryby on 7/5/2017 & rated 94 points: This is right in the sweet spot now. Very bordelais- cigar box, chocolate, graphite, a bit of classic cab franc red pepper, and that just right sense of fallen leaves, forest floor. Elegant tannins.
This was just beautiful. Excellent value. (4057 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 4/20/2017 & rated 92 points: PnP & drink... Garnet color with some light bricking. Tobacco & dark fruit aromas. Love the earth & tobacco elements. Still youthfully vibrant with focused elegance & class. Will this wine ever show its true age? Drinks like it around 6-10 years old. Next to the larger scaled Cakebread Dancing Bear Howell Mountain Cabernet this shows less ripe and less extracted. I liked both wines and might even give the edge to the Cakebread tonight. That said this never got the air it deserved tonight. Just a very special wine that taste like it comes from somewhere. Not a rough edge anywhere but plenty of polished structure keeps this vineyard fresh. I first tried it in a Siena Italy restaurant back in 2008. 13% Alc I have 1/2 a btl left to explore over the weekend if I can find a good pairing. I'm not good at working with left over wine:).  Tasted by SeedfamilyD on 12/20/2016 & rated 93 points: 녹아내린 타닌이 벨벳처럼 입안을 감싸듯 녹아내렸으며, 산도도 적당하고 올빈의 매력이 올곶이 살아꿈틀이는 멋진 와인. (3313 views)
Tasted by SeedfamilyD on 12/16/2016 & rated 93 points: 녹아내린 타닌으로 인해 벨베티한 팔럿이 아주 매력적인 와인. 정점의 내리막을 느릿느릿 내려오고 있는 아주 멋진 와인 (3162 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 10/8/2016 & rated 93 points: Opened and double decanted back into the btl almost immediately leaving a high shoulder / low neck fill to slow ox for 2 hours. Still semi dark ruby color. Love the tobacco & dark fruit aromas. Cork looks like its only 5 years old with 1/8" soak. Another great btl tonight with the extended family and homemade pizza. Love the earth & tobacco elements, youthfully vibrant fruit and focused elegance & class. Just a very special wine that taste like it comes from somewhere. Not a rough edge anywhere but plenty of polished structure keeps this vineyard fresh. Hoping I still have one more squirreled away somewhere as this vintage has been stellar every time since I first tried it in a Siena Italy restaurant back in 2008. 13% Alc. (3431 views)
Tasted by NineteenEightyTwo on 6/12/2016 & rated 92 points: Medium crimson color. Old-world, Bordelais nose of dried cranberries, cedar wood, and dry earth. The palate is punchy, with tart red fruit underpinned by a persistently rocky sense of terroir. Drinkable now, but the dry tannins indicate at least another 5+ years of life on this one. Strong, classical, and firmly-grounded wine. (2129 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 1/1/2015 & rated 93 points: Another great recently acquired btl. Drinking even more youthfully fresh than prior btls from another source. This seemingly, is a good 3 -5yrs from peaking. I love it now as, with previous btls it shows terrific depth and mature layers. One more left to find out if I can keep my hands off these. Since this is so very under the radar you get a $100 plus experience for $45. A poor man's La Mish! (4144 views)
Tasted by cephomer on 9/16/2014 & rated 92 points: Drank in Vegas alongside a Pio Cesare Ornato 1996. Decanted for apps. 30 minutes. This wine is a dark ruby color, nose of tobacco, some hints of menthol, and earth. Medium bodied, a bit shy of ripe fruit, but lots of pepper, minerality, earthiness, dust and tobacco. Solid acidity level, soft tannins & a fairly long finish. Complex and concentrated, this wine is not the type to jump out and hit one in the face. It's well balanced but has more of a brooding quality that requires reflexion and provokes thought. I enjoyed this very much even if most of the crowd preferred the more friendly, fruity barolo. (4085 views)
Tasted by pdadams66 on 6/14/2014 & rated 90 points: Deep red center, red rim with clear signs of age.
Sweet, black cherries, dusty, a little ripe banana, green peppers, chopped green chilies, pepper, toasty oak, crushed black olives.
Smooth, bell peppers, pyrazine (good), cherries and black plums, modest tannin and acidity, good length and finish.
Excellent as before, aging well, drinking well now. (4334 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 4/19/2014 & rated 94 points: I first had this wine in Siena Italy in late October 2008. It did not disapoint then and it was even better tonight with another 5yrs btl age. Back then it was decanted by the restaurant, tonight it was clearly unecessary when I popped the cork and poured a first glass to let sit for a bit. I took a wiff and met with huge aromas of tobacco and damp forest floor. I had my radar up for possible green flavors from the 30% Cab Franc in this Cabernet dominated blend but tasted only prefectly ripe raspberries, a damp forest floor minerality and addl unidentifiable flavors. The structure is just right and the tanins almost suave. Blind, I think I'd guess La Mish HB. Paid $40 and easily drinks more like $150+. Thought this would be the last '01 I'd enjoy but I need to find more if, I can. 13% AlC on the label. Very cool wine from the Dolimites. Medium garnet color. Very little sediment. In a great place and about 95% fully realized but should go on for annother 5yrs + very easily. (4866 views)
Tasted by PSPatrick on 4/6/2014 & rated 90 points: The wine still was dark ruby in colour and offered cherry, bell pepper, herbs, black pepper, leather, earth, mushroom, cola and balsamic notes on the nose. On the palate the wine showed cherry, raspberry, red currant, black currant, plum, bell pepper, earth, mushroom, soy sauce and balsamic notes, paired with medium-plus acidity, medium-plus well-integrated tannin and very good length. The medium-bodied, balanced wine kept improving as time passed and I would recommend decanting for at least 1.5 hours. It should continue to drink well for another ten years. 90+ (4190 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.
