Tasted by CurrieCellar on 12/14/2019 & rated 94 points: Absolutely superb. Perfect balance and maturity. Lots of fruit
The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like raisin and red currant. (2074 views)
Tasted by Bwallace on 12/17/2016 & rated 85 points: Unfortunately over the hill but fun to drink something from your birth year. (3884 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 6/10/2016 & rated 85 points: Chicago Wine Flock...Gary Opens Cali Cab (Chez Weber - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind in what turned out to be 1973 flight. group liked this wine, but i found it less interesting, seeming slightly green, simple and bitter. I understand the other bottle at the dinner was much better. (4959 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 6/10/2016 & rated 95 points: Wine Flock Intro-Retro Blind Tasting (Gary's home outside on the porch, Chicago IL): Pop and pour, '73 blind in a flight of 4. My table liked this a lot with 3 votes #1 and 1-#2. Outstanding color, strong nose and savory taste. With many of these wines their was btl variation. (4597 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 12/24/2011 & rated 93 points: Caymus 1972 and 1973 (Flemings, Walnut Creek, Ca.): Lovely beet red color in the glass, nose of black currants, black berry, and wood, same on the palate, very tasty, big body, slightly tired, rich fruit, elegant old Caymus brings back memories of Charlie, long finish, pleasant aftertaste. (1917 views)
Tasted by RossM on 12/18/2004 & rated 88 points: Winemaker luncheon 2004 (Cafe Juanita): Medium to dark red in color. Hints of raw dough and mint. Impressively, there was very little oxidation to this wine. It didn't scream Cabernet Sauvignon though. Very nice length. (7596 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 3/12/1994 & rated 95 points: The wine from the year I was married. Fruity nose with hints of wood and currants, more of the same on the palate, very fruity and rich taste tonight, lovely long finish!! (4599 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
