Still has some lively flavor after all these years. Smooth and silky finish, well balanced tannin & fruit, and a long finish. (2639 views) | | Tasted by jcosindc on 2/20/2018 & rated 92 points: I truly believe Burgess is a "hidden" gem amongst the expensive Napa landscape. Always a good Cab at a great QPR...a step up from the mass produced CA Cabs. (2781 views) | | Tasted by alohaboys on 10/15/2016 & rated 90 points: Easily could go another 10 years. (3759 views) | | Tasted by mdfuller on 12/29/2015 & rated 89 points: 1.5l and drank very well ... opened the day before serving at large dinner party - everybody liked it (4642 views) | | Tasted by David_T on 12/12/2015 & rated 89 points: Drinking well at 10 years old and likely peaking. Fairly typical Napa cab with aromas of red currant, dust/earth and herbs. The palate matches, adding cherry and a hint of licorice. Medium acid/tannins add structure. (4633 views) | | Tasted by Wizaard1 on 11/22/2015 & rated 92 points: improved during past year to become a very enjoyable bottle of vino (3009 views) | | Tasted by EdKz@comcast.net on 2/14/2015 & rated 89 points: ruby, mild cassis aroma, balance earth and oak, muted red fruit flavor... still needs airtime: 88 first hour, 89 second hour, 90 third hour... a nice classic cab, but only a fair value, not worth seeking (3540 views) | | Tasted by Wizaard1 on 9/7/2014 & rated 90 points: delicate flavors. Excellent balance, but I will be drinking most of my case within the next year (3251 views) | | Tasted by PourSomeRed on 2/6/2014 & rated 88 points: If you like a earthy Cabernet, this is it. Fruit was very subdued, but what was there was nice. Not sure if this will get better. I would say drink up. (3219 views) | | Tasted by thesternowl on 1/8/2014 & rated 88 points: One of their Library Releases. Popped and poured; synthetic cork (Supreme Cork??). Loads of beautiful dark fruit right out of the gate but the initial intensity wore off within the first ten minutes. While it didn't subside completely, it became very clear to me that this bottle was ready to drink. All of the tannins were soft as a goose down pillow and there are secondary characteristics showing: leather and decaying fruit. Nothing bad here but again, it's not going to "improve". If I had more, I would drink in the near term. (3378 views) | | Tasted by Corkdork79 on 9/11/2013 & rated 91 points: donated to SCDFFC (3163 views) | | Tasted by monk1019 on 9/5/2013 & rated 90 points: Fleshy black fruit greets you and leads you to a mineral bath, followed by mild but firm tannins. Paired with filet mignon and potatoes, the wine was a perfect compliment. Last bottle. Hoping WTSO will offer some soon (3380 views) | | Tasted by Double-A on 7/30/2013 & rated 93 points: Medium, dark garnet colour. Rounding currant, toast, leather and chipotle peppers on the nose. Full, fresh and elegant palate with a long, well-balanced finish. At a really nice point in in its evolution right now. 4.5/5 (783 views) | | Tasted by Just Grapes on 6/6/2013 & rated 90 points: Very good value for $21.99, which is what I paid on WTSO. This is a very soft and easy drinking Cab. The fruit has held up very well. The tannins are like silk. In the zone right now. (3629 views) | | Tasted by Iceman611 on 5/6/2013: Tasted against the 02 and I preferred the more recent vintage as it was a bit fuller and smoother. (3502 views) | | Tasted by kvswine on 5/5/2013 & rated 91 points: Burgess is one of my favorite wineries, I appreciate the fact that they release library selections that have been stored at the winery for later release. The 2005 may not be the best of their vintages but it is still a very pleasing wine. Earthy on the nose , dusty and dry on the tongue, but a wonderful leathery finish with dissolved tannins. (2142 views) | | Tasted by David_T on 3/30/2013 & rated 88 points: Drinking well now but should age well for several more years. If you told me to describe a Napa cab, this wine would nail my description. Red currant, a bit of earth, medium-bodied with medium acid & tannins. Well made and a good value. (2986 views) | | Tasted by alohaboys on 3/8/2013 & rated 88 points: 2nd of 4 bottles. Similar to last, but a hint oxidized. Hope it's just this bottle (2188 views) | | Tasted by PhillYamamoto on 2/20/2013 & rated 90 points: Big Napa Cab....black cherry, licorice, and oak and firm tannins....30-45 minutes and it will open up nicely. (2195 views) | | Tasted by CoA on 2/7/2013 & rated 91 points: - Garnet color. It's in total harmony with a medium/full body. Leathery texture. (2337 views) | | Tasted by PourSomeRed on 1/16/2013 & rated 88 points: Good Cabernet. I think a couple of more years and this will be better. (3765 views) | | Tasted by pols on 1/7/2013 & rated 91 points: great texture , much better than the prior bottle (2799 views) | | Tasted by APatHB on 12/25/2012 & rated 91 points: Much better than I expected. I bought this on the strength of the '05 vintage. It lived up to the hype and then some, especially considering I paid $19 for it. If you can find it, buy it and drink it!! You won't be disappointed. Enjoy!! (3498 views) | | Tasted by Tracypyo on 12/14/2012 & rated 92 points: Drinking very good right now. Almost a hint of bricking around the rim. Hints of cinnamon and vanilla on the nose and very soft palate entry. Not sure how this bottle was stored as I just picked it up at a local wine shop who got it from a private individual but it far exceeded it's $30 price tag in my opinion. Plan on seeing if he has any bottles left tomorrow! (3110 views) | | Tasted by Agreenblatt on 12/12/2012 & rated 90 points: This was better on day 2. Very full bodied, fruit. Tannins were smooth on day 2. (2088 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

Winemaking Data Alcohol: 14.40% pH: 3.69 T.A.: 0.50 100% Malolactic FermentationCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
