 Tasted by rieslinghoarder on 11/5/2021 & rated 94 points: Tasted side-by-side with 2007 Bedrock Lorenzo's Heirloom in our monthly wine tasting group. Pop n' pour per Chris Cottrell's recommendations.

Blackberry, black cherry, and hints of citrus and coffee on the nose. The palate bursts with high-toned black fruits and a touch of orange peel, but with some time in the glass there are red fruited notes like raspberry and cherry liqueur as well. This wine is more polished on the nose and palate than Lorenzo's, with silky tannins that provide great structure in addition to the wine's fresh acidity.

Like the Lorenzo's, this wine is still a puppy and I'm amazed by how primary the fruit still is. I think in another 5 years this wine will be at its apogee as the tannins recede. Will see how it shows on night 2. (868 views)

 Tasted by RichEB1 on 4/12/2019 & rated 93 points: Mmmm. This is awesome. In an ideal place right now, with the acidity playing perfectly with the fruit. High toned citrus with purple fruits. Drinking so well, but theres still some tannin left on the finish hinting at 5+ years more of development. Later in the night this opened up even further with an awesome and very distinct note of menthol. Alex said fresh pack of Newports, which being a Newport smoker back in high school (#BadChoices), I completely agreed with. A very close 2nd place for WOTN to the 11 Puccini Zin, and an absolutle home run considering this was Morgan's first vintage. 1 left that I'll hold for some time. (1073 views)

This was Morgan's first effort at this wine, and IMO it suffered from being a bit simple and overripe, lacking the subtlety and nuance of his more recent vintages. My least favorite of these three wines. Ripe, a bit hot on the nose, slightly one-dimensional zinberry fruit, resolved tannins. Drink up.

 Tasted by Riezin on 5/1/2011: Nat cork. An initial whiff of manure blew off quickly, giving way to berry compote, rhubarb, and red licorice. Initial impression of true sweetness on palate and round in the mouth, bit of glycerin, dark choc, dark fruit and bramble. Shari got Dr Pepper. A true Zinfandel but very big and this good wine struggles to tame the huge alcohol its carrying. (3035 views)
 Tasted by Why Yes on 3/26/2011: This wine has heft and density, but is not overdone in any way. Plenty of fruit and texture but currently this wine's character is hiding behind its oak. Good things ahead for this bottle, but now is not the time.

I love what Bedrock is doing with these "heirloom" bottlings. One of the more interesting projects going in Sonoma county right now. (2679 views)

Very well made and balanced though - quite reminiscent of a Ridge Lytton Estate. I'll let my remaining bottle rest for a few years. (2842 views)

Just like they were making it back in the old days, before Prohibition. A counterpoint to today's popular style of unabashed Zinfandel bottlings. Will probably improve with another 1-2 years of cellaring. 88+ (2720 views)

2007 Bedrock Wine Co. The Bedrock Heirloom

The inaugural release of the Bedrock Wine Co. is a classic California field blend. Composed of Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Barbera and numerous other mixed blacks from vines planted as far back as 1888, the Bedrock Heirloom Wine is as distinctly Californian as it gets. Though as firmly rooted in California as the vines are in our vineyard’s red, cobbly, soil, this wine is made to stand next to the greatest field blends in the world—those of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. As such, a premium is put on richness, balance, spice, and integrated oak components. In 2007, I used 40% new French oak from a range of forests. Outside of the big mamer-jammer, 600 Liter, demi-muid from Taransaud, I used the Burgundian coopers of Claude Gillet, Cadus, and Rousseau in an attempt to highlight the wine’s perfume and spice components while lessening the inprint of oak flavor. Typical of Sonoma Valley, this year’s wine features a dazzling aromatic profile of crushed red berries, kirsch, pumpkin pie spice, bright, clarified, fruit flavors and rich structural components imparted by the mixed blacks which ground the wine and indicate that it will age gracefully for 8-10 years.

Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.

Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.
