Community Tasting Notes (average 91 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 150 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Ridgerunner on 9/8/2023 & rated 94 points: Home field wine with tremendous depth and character. (301 views)
Tasted by Sijan on 3/10/2023: Seemed a bit past its prime. Quite oxidized. Not a lot of fruit. (576 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 11/14/2022 & rated 92 points: I always find Bedrock red wines to be quite full-bodied and they go a little sweet on the finish. This was no exception, but it has great complexity, minerality that I can taste and smell, and no noticeable alcohol. I still probably prefer Carlisle, but this was a great experience. 92+ (918 views)
Tasted by JayAAllen on 7/16/2022 & rated 92 points: I think that chadrich and rieslinghoarder are correct - the Cellar Tracker drinking window for this wine is probably too short and this wine has at least a year or two to go.

Wine is round and easy drinking. Tannins are pretty well integrated. For a wine with ABV of 14.5%, the alcohol is also pretty well hidden.

I wouldn't hesitate to drink this. My last bottle will be gone soon! (802 views)
Tasted by bound4er on 2/19/2022 & rated 87 points: Fruit has faded - tannins and acidity remain. Might be okay with a fatty steak but not much else. (989 views)
Tasted by adnorthup on 3/12/2021 & rated 92 points: Seems less Zin than modern. In a really nice spot, trying to move more into the secondary phase. Yum. (1361 views)
Tasted by chadrich on 1/19/2021 & rated 91 points: Deep purple with consistent color throughout. Nose and palate are full of dark brambly fruit. Nose also shows darker pie spices (clove, mace) and a faint tar note. Palate is smooth and full with light licorice/root beer and a long finish with a bit of notable alcohol. Drinking great now but likely has another 3 to 5 years easily. (1135 views)
Tasted by rieslinghoarder on 5/7/2020 & rated 93 points: Pop n' pour in a GGG and followed over time. Bought as a backfill from K&L. You'd be hard pressed to tell me this wine is 10 years old. Lots of primary fruit notes present, including blackberry, boysenberry tea, dried/crushed blueberry, and a touch of orange peel. On the palate there is mostly black fruit with some cedar, graphite, and baking spice. Good concentration and weight on the palate, with medium acidity and dusty tannins that are well-integrated.

I think the drinking window on CT is wrong, as this has plenty of stuffing and may even get better with a little more time in the cellar. If I had more of this bottle I'd keep for another 5-7 years before opening again. (1789 views)
Tasted by Chrisinroch on 3/8/2020: no formal notes. tasty and easy drinking w aged ribeye (1179 views)
Tasted by RichEB1 on 6/22/2019 & rated 93 points: This is in a fantastic drinking window right now but should hold for some time. Explosion of purple brambly fruits on the nose and mouth from pnp with nicely integrated tannins and that crazy hint of orange rind on the finish that I often get from this vineyard.
Great wine and always one of my faves from the Bedrock stable. (1648 views)
Tasted by Castle Peak on 4/29/2019 & rated 90 points: Much, much better day 2 and 3. (1210 views)
Tasted by jfkwines on 1/11/2019 & rated 91 points: Room to grow. Nice bottle, opened up smoothly over the night (1377 views)
Tasted by MattB72 on 8/11/2018 & rated 92 points: My last score was 88 about a year and a half ago. Back then I thought this tasted like a low-end Rhône Valley wine. But not anymore. This has really come together. 92 and still has some time left. (1687 views)
Tasted by jmcnewjersey on 5/1/2018 & rated 90 points: Red cherry notes on the nose, with slight earthy quality. Medium-bodied on the palate, with spice and red fruit flavors. Certainly drinkable now and I would not cellar much longer. The wine opened up nicely after 30 minutes air and I bumped up the score accordingly from 88 to 90. (1929 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 3/30/2018 & rated 95 points: The home vineyard really shined... and these wines taste and age great (1585 views)
Tasted by bound4er on 3/24/2018 & rated 88 points: Good wine but not up to Bedrock's normal Heirloom standards. Dark cherry, piney forest floor and peppery alcohol on the nose. Uncomplicated, albeit somewhat disjointed, taste of dark cherry, drying tannins and a hint of alcohol. Is this in a weird drinking window and needs more time? I'll give my one remaining bottle a couple of years more horizontal time to find out. (1380 views)
Tasted by David_T on 1/13/2018 & rated 91 points: The aromas and flavors match with mixed red & black fruits, red & black licorice, then a violet/potpourri note and black pepper/herbs on the finish. Integrated medium acidity/tannins. Certainly drinking well now and should continue to do so for several more years. (1381 views)
Tasted by Jahull03 on 3/2/2017: drinking great right now. a bit less of the blood-orange bedrock vineyard sometimes brings, and more round blackberry fruit this time around. has settled in; reminds me more of the weight and balance of monte rosso. (2337 views)
Tasted by amoryb on 1/5/2017: Drank over two nights. Liked the first night better as there was more pepper on the finish. Lighter wine on the second. Subtle red fruit, did not notice much heat. Unfortunately nothing particularly special. (2068 views)
Tasted by Tubulus on 11/15/2016: I'm going to agree with MattB below. Something about this one just didn't do it for me, relatively large-scaled and disjointed. Maybe needs another 5 years? (2306 views)
Tasted by MattB72 on 11/14/2016 & rated 88 points: Maybe this is just not my style. It tastes like a lowed Rhone blend. No real character or substance. I tried over three nights. Did not improve. Not sure what other people seein this but it's not my style. Second bottle in the last 12mons and same impression. (2124 views)
Tasted by BigTarheel on 9/10/2016 & rated 89 points: Red raspberry preserve and spicy heat dominate the palate. Right now, the wine overwhelms and needs some time to mellow (2516 views)
Tasted by RichEB1 on 8/10/2016 & rated 92 points: Just a beautiful wine with haunting perfume, and pure, deep fruit with ample acidity and integrated tannins. I get the signature "dusty" bedrock flavor with hints of orange peel on the finish which I usually find in their Bedrock Vineyard field blends.

Drinking great now, but definitely no rush as I do think this will improve. Hoping to hang on to at least 1 of the 4 I have left to drink in 2026. (1990 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 4/22/2016 & rated 90 points: PnD let air for 1hr. Dense almost saturated purple with crimson to clear rim. Brambly nose with a touch of herbs and cherry juice.Medium weight with nicely polished tannin with a bit of black tea and blackberry seed grip. Blackberry bitters amaro dates and earth on the palate. Big flavours nice complexity. Nicely balanced between fresh and slightly porty. Great with a bacon cheeseburger. The wait paid off. (2335 views)
Tasted by Mootsie on 3/13/2016 & rated 93 points: Juicy, layered black raspberry/bramble with a nice spicy edge. Very alive. Will cellar for years yet, but why wait when the fruit is so much in the forefront right now. Short decant. Served slightly cool. (2443 views)

2010 Bedrock Wine Co. The Bedrock Heirloom

Winemaker's Notes: 2010 Bedrock Heirloom Wine, Bedrock Vineyard, Sonoma Valley: The viticultural gods smiled on Bedrock Vineyard in 2010.  While the fierce heat did cause damage to some of the younger vines, the 1888 plantings withstood the withering meteorological assault like the champs they are.  I sourced the Zinfandel and mixed-blacks from three separate blocks- each coming into the winery in the 24.5 brix range.  I picked the Carignane and Mourvedre separately, and for this year, all of the old-vine Syrah -- though picked and vinified separately -- has been added to the final blend.  The final wine is roughly 55% Zinfandel, 25% Carignane, 11% Mourvedre, and 9% Syrah and the numerous other “mixed-blacks” found in the vineyard.  As usual, the wine is dominated by the orange-oil, spice, and perfume of the vineyard.  In the range of power, this wine occupies a middle ground between the elegant 2009 and powerful 2008.  Though delicious now I think this wine will drink best a few years down the road. 400 cases made.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Sonoma County

Mendocino County

Sonoma Valley

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.

Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.
