Beautiful young VP with a dense sweetness. Spices and almonds in the aftertaste. Great potential! (2088 views) | | Tasted by KPB on 9/7/2021 & rated 89 points: Very dark, with a sweet nose showing candied cherries, beeswax, pistachio nuts. That dominant sweetness continues on the palate, which is rich and soft, but still has a jammy dimension and feels a bit unbalanced because of it. Quite good, but misses the bar for greatness. (3222 views) | | Tasted by drjb on 6/27/2021 & rated 95 points: This a great bottle of Port that remains in a slumber at 14 years of age. The palate is a deep dark cherry colour with an initially muted nose that opens over hours to reveal scents of dark plums, black cherries, violet and lavender. The palate reveals rich and viscous flavors of black cherries, garnet plums, dark chocolate and liqorice all up against a wall of fine powdery tannins balanced with lovely spirit. While best cellared for another 10 years there is plenty of joy with adequate aeration. (3003 views) | | Tasted by john_s on 6/8/2021 & rated 92 points: Only 14 years old which is grossly insufficient for a VP. I opened it after reading that it was worth a look. It is relatively easy to drink and has superb flavour, but is SOOOO young. My remaining bottles won't be touched until my 90th birthday which is a while off. Even then it will probably only be half way. (2943 views) | | Tasted by pilot360 on 11/5/2019: Was opened on a whim, a few serving placed in decanter, and allowed to breathe for about an hour. Pure clean fresh fruit - blueberries, depth, length excellent. Stunningly fantastic at this early stage. No sin to drink. Is if you’ve some bottles for the long haul. One of the best young ports I’ve had and holds a promising future.
Bottle picked out by a friend “ why does that one have dust , let’s drink that!” I would have left these alone for another 10 years, but glad to have tried this at an early stage. Gave the rest to Brad, says it getting better every day. (4270 views) | | Tasted by krrat@me.com on 10/18/2018: Was given to us in 2013 by Dick and Jane. Wine notes say save until 2020-22 tho drinking nicely in 2018, will improve. (4444 views) | | Tasted by KJD45$ on 4/7/2018 & rated 93 points: Improving....less syrupy and more balanced (4223 views) | | Tasted by KJD45$ on 12/16/2015 & rated 93 points: Upon opening....straight blueberry syrup...that's it....needs air time as in 2 days...then the complexity really emerges and reveals an excellent young port.... Drinks surprisingly well for its youthfulness... I do believe I will score this higher as the years go by....God willing... (7558 views) | | Tasted by Motz on 5/5/2015 & rated 97 points: Drank over two days. Ethereal bouquet of blue and black berries, berry liqueur, herbs, fruit candy, and crushed rocks. Incredibly concentrated, ultra saturated, smooth texture. This complex, brooding, and profound offering improves markedly with air, adding coco powder, dark chocolate, berry sherbet, cardamom, cigar ash, and stunning mineral depth. Unclockable finish. Utterly delightful now and likely to improve with cellaring. Drink through 2040+. 96-98. (9896 views) | | Tasted by yofog on 11/4/2013 & rated 96 points: Just gorgeous, glass staining, balanced, with a big nose of compact, concentrated fruit with hints of orange peel and cumin. A zesty and mineral version of VP, but not lacking in power. Best VP I've had to date and I think Gilman's drinking window might be correct here. (10235 views) | | Tasted by ELH on 1/26/2013 & rated 94 points: Luxurious, earthy fruit (9963 views) | | Tasted by ELH on 1/1/2013 & rated 94 points: Earthy, rich, primary fruit at this youngish stage. (7157 views) | | Tasted by yofog on 9/17/2012 & rated 94 points: I usually expect just blueberries on the nose of a young port, this was showing some more complexity. Also seemed less impenetrably dense than some, and less super sweet than some. Not to say that it lacks structure...in some ways, this wine's tannic structure was adamantine, and lucky owners need not fret over when to drink it. (7266 views) | | Tasted by t_moderne on 8/17/2012 & rated 92 points: Pop and pour and drank in plastic Govino cups on a sailboat. This was a 375 ml bottle. Sweet and thick with rich and bright fruit. Shows a tad bit of heat. Good depth of flavors; concentrated and rich. (2520 views) | | Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 10/12/2011 & rated 94 points: 2011 Wine & Spirits Top 100 Tasting (City View at Metreon, San Francisco, California): Opaque purple red violet color; rich, baked berry, black bean nose; tasty, rich, poised, baked berry, black fruit palate; needs 10-plus years; long finish (4892 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 10/6/2011: Funky, earthy and meaty. Really funky. Black pepper but then cumin and cardomom. Structured and powerful. Packed up and kinda a monster. 20 months in oak, french or mostly french, or something like that I am being told. Quite concentrated, needs some time. (6087 views) | | Tasted by strad on 12/12/2010 & rated 96 points: Reminds me of a top cuvee 2007 cdp on steroids! Primary, complex and luscious. Made it last a week and it just got better every day. Bury if you have only a couple of bottles and revisit it in 20 years or plan on a really long decant! (6451 views) | | Tasted by aagrawal on 10/14/2010 & rated 95 points: Wine & Spirits Top 100 Tasting- Brief Notes (San Francisco Design Center): Huge intensity on the nose and palate. Not too tannic, long finish. (7211 views) | | Tasted by whinenut on 7/20/2010 & rated 94 points: Opaque violet/red leading to bright violet at rim. Tart berries, blueberry, pie crust, lavender and citrus rind shavings. Palate reflects A slightly sweet fruit followed by a little alcohol heat. Tasty grainy tannin in check. A continous improvement over the 3 hours it was tasted. Very tasty (6030 views) | | Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 5/18/2010 & rated 96 points: Visit to Quinta do Noval (and verticals of Noval and Nacional) (Quinta do Noval, Douro, Portugal): Opaque black red violet color; tart black fruit, herb, graphite nose; rich, balanced, black fruit, chocolate palate, impressive and deep; long finish (6512 views) | | Tasted by mdefreitas on 4/13/2010 & rated 97 points: Not decanted; popped and poured. Dark inky color, glass staining, probably tooth staining as well. Rich and concentrated, almost pulpy. This reminded me of the 1994 Quinta do Vesuvio in color and texture. Others have mentioned lavender, and they are dead on. Almost like blackberry pie infused with lavender, violets and dark bittersweet chocolate. Wonderful concentration, structure, balance and length. Fantastic stuff. Can't wait to taste it on day 2. Update: This seemed to have gotten darker on day two, but no real change for me... meaning it was still stunning. (6444 views) | | Tasted by drjb on 4/9/2010 & rated 95 points: This is fabulous and a great reintroduction to vintage port. Dense dark crimson to the edge. Deep aromas of dark plums, blackcherries, violet and lavender. Palate rich and viscous flavors. dark chocolate and liqorice with beautiful balance and spirit. Great, young wine. Very nice. (6895 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
