| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 4 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Ary on 11/22/2020 & rated 90 points: Surprisingly vivid and fresh at age 20. Syrah-character most noticeable; almost Cote-Rotie like in style. Despite the 14,5% ABV rather elegant thanks to good acidity. Loads of red and black fruit on the nose as well as bacon, cedar ad a nice touch of mint and spices. (320 views) | | Tasted by bobbylion on 10/6/2012 & rated 89 points: powerful stuff. just opened it, so it might go up or down from 91. i think up. if it wasnt for 14,5% alc, I would give it 92-93.
2 hrs later - nope, its a downgrade. alcohol stays, fruit gone. drying... domage (1139 views) | | Tasted by AndrewSGHall on 5/21/2004: Very smokey and burnt fat nose upfront. Big fruit with loads of grenache aromatics. Very minty/menthol. Loosened up to be good fruit with fairly tight structure. Good drinking, but one dimensional. Good pairing with Grilled kobe w/ olive oil/sea salt dressing, morels in cream sauce w/ pasta. (2217 views) |
| Domaine du Clos des Fées Producer website
The vines were planted with pickaxes, barely touching the layers of parent-limestone, in pockets of pure clay, zigzagging along impressive green oak trees.
The stones were taken out of the vineyards one by one, by hand or pulled by a horse, then patiently and skilfully stacked by generations of wine growers from another era. They worked hard and long hours.
The conditions were so difficult that workers hired to plant the first vines in parts of the vineyard simply gave up. The elders in the village nicknamed the location "little Siberia" as a result.
What exactly does the word «Clos des Fées» ? In French, a «Clos» is a small parcel of vines surrounded by walls. A Fée is a «mythical being, in general a woman, with magical powers» which she uses with the help of a magic wand. Le Clos des Fees is a vineyard where the fairies would have lived, if they existed. The place is very isolated, beautiful, wild, very romantic which inspired us for the name.
