Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 93 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by theportguy on 9/30/2021 & rated 93 points: 2021 FTLOP Harvest Tour; 9/19/2021-10/2/2021 (Portgugal): Dark purple in color with garnet around the edges. Blueberry, cassis and nice herbal notes on the nose. Red currant and boysenberry on the mid-palate, giving way to chocolate notes on the finish. Extremely balanced sweetness, acidity, and tannins. The finish is very long. (1278 views)
Tasted by PeterMole on 4/16/2021: drank over 4 days. Almost black, not very much nose, integrated tannines, but very young. Not much development over 4 days (under cork). So, next bottle in 5 years. (1610 views)
Tasted by theportguy on 10/13/2018 & rated 94 points: Sammamish Port Club - October 2018 (Sammamish, Washington): Completely dark opaque in color. Intense dark berry on the palate. Well-balanced across the board. Rich fruit on the finish with balanced tannins. (2084 views)
Tasted by Stefanos T. on 9/17/2018 & rated 94 points: Very nice wine.
Still ruby colored. (3051 views)
Tasted by Stefanos T. on 11/29/2016 & rated 93 points: Smooth, balanced, not very sweet and absolutely drinkable. (3867 views)
Tasted by Heywood_ja on 12/5/2013 & rated 93 points: A wonderful young port. My problem with Vesuvio is that I am always tempted by infanticide. These are so good when they are young. With a little accompanying chocolate, the red fruit flavors really pop, with a dark wild cherry expressing itself. I need to find more, as I feel this will evolve well for many years. (5153 views)
Tasted by Stefanos T. on 4/4/2013 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured.
Concentrated nose with blueberries and blackberries, fig and sweet spice.
Still youthful but not unyielding. Palate is smooth with soft tannins, unnoticeable alcoohol
and perfectly balanced acidity. Not overtly sweet it is drinking well now and can accompany
finger food nicely. Will need time to gain complexity however. Good wine! (5666 views)
Tasted by lewisrise on 12/31/2011 & rated 95 points: Nose of blueberry and tar with a whiny of pepper and Asian spice. Blueberry and tar with a long finish. (6382 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 11/25/2010 & rated 94 points: Monthly Tasting Group LTB 2010-09; Portugal (By EvA): Really beautiful in its youth stage. Pure and concentrated blackberry juice. Silky soft tannin. (This will be beautiful with rare stake for the next 2 - 3 years!!) It is so beautiful now, but it will almost certainly close down somewhere between 2012 and 2014. Drink some of your bottles in this wonderful drinking stage and keep the rest for after 2023. A beauty already and a great promise! 93 - 95+ (6610 views)
Tasted by ckinv368 on 11/3/2010: Strong bitter vegetal nose. Sweet on the palate, but still a bit of smoke that lingers. (5593 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 10/14/2010 & rated 95 points: Wine & Spirits Top 100 Tasting- Brief Notes (San Francisco Design Center): Excellent nose. Sweet, spicy, fruity, and complex. Palate has lovely balance, good flavor, and a finish that is at first intense, then has sweetness. (5443 views)
Tasted by gelliott on 2/1/2010 & rated 94 points: Tasted over 4 days with a 3-hour decant on the first evening.

Blackberry, some mild blueberry, and some black raspberry on the nose, all of which carry over into the mouth to some extent. Also some dust and/or minerals on the nose. The berry flavors are brighter and more tart than their corresponding smells. Powerful but smooth tannins and good acidity do a good job of balancing the fruits at this early stage. Medium sweet and medium full bodied.

Very consistent over the 4 days, receiving 94, 94, 93, and 94 points. Another outstanding effort from QdV. (3750 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 1/23/2010 & rated 93 points: 2007 Vintage Ports (Beltramo's in Menlo Park, California): Opaque very dark red violet color; black raspberry, black cherry, garrigue nose; tasty, complex, herbes de Provence, black fruit, plum palate; long finish (3629 views)
Tasted by alanr on 1/23/2010 & rated 92 points: 2007 Ports at Beltramos: Medium ripe, beautiful complexity, decent structure, a bit more forward and "ready" than I'd like for a bottle meant to age decades. (3893 views)
Tasted by Rossodio on 10/28/2009 & rated 93 points: Vintage Port Tasting with Dominic Symington of Symington Family Estates (Martin Wine Cellar, Metairie, LA): Dense, deep, dark, and brooding, yet with a bit of mineral on the nose, this great vintage port brings great floral character, with violets, lavendar, plum, intense white pepper on the backdrop, and great black cherry aromas. The palate is richer, hotter, very concentrated, with a touch of bourbon. It is young, with surprisingly good smooth tannins on its long long finish. Will surely shine even brighter in its promising future. (4548 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 10/24/2009 & rated 91 points: 2007 and other Ports with Dominic Symington (Beltramo's in Menlo Park, California): Opaque very dark red violet color with cherry red meniscus; charcoal, herbal, black fruit, berry nose; softer entry, elegant, tart blackberry, berry, black fruit, herbal palate; medium-plus finish 91+ pts. (55% Touriga Nacional, 45% Touriga Franca, the latter sourced from the Teja Vineyard at Vesuvio) (3846 views)
Tasted by vespasian on 5/26/2009: Very intense fruit with strong herbaceous notes; great texture and concentration on the palate. Intense! Nice length - this could be outstanding. (965 views)

Port Blend

Over a hundred varieties of grapes (castas) are sanctioned for port production, although only five (Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional) are widely cultivated and used.
