Community Tasting Notes (average 90.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 34 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by chitowncdpguy on 5/2/2022: Sadly oxidized. (1242 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 12/18/2021 & rated 93 points: Impressive nose of a wine which is perfectly together. On the palate Iodine, apple, citrus and white pepper. Pretty straight and lean typical for 2008, very good. (1449 views)
Tasted by Formerwinemaker on 5/9/2021 & rated 94 points: Opened with hints of caramel, suggesting it had moved into a secondary phase, but these quickly subsided into the background. But for that minor distraction, this was outstanding. I always decant whites, and this benefited enormously from it, and at the hour mark was singing. Great complexity, real bite and grip on the palate, firm acidity but well integrated, redolent of oysters and the sea. A very good Les Clos, very typical. I would think the best drinking will be in the next 5 years. (1602 views)
Tasted by chitowncdpguy on 1/30/2021: A delightful bottle. This seemed a tad sweet which I thought was odd. Otherwise very chablis with apple flavors and a lot of stony minerality. The extremely long finish dries out some and gives up some hints of citrus. (1648 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 7/24/2020 & rated 93 points: Light yellow with greenish reflections, nose not very expressive, needs air, first apple, than iodine and lemon, on the palate white pepper and an extreme saltiness, iodine and lemon, very long, still young, excellent. (1771 views)
Tasted by abbulf on 5/15/2020: Clearly in an advanced state of oxidation. But still enjoyable on the palate in particular. Aromas were off though, and the wine is clearly not as good as a non-oxidized bottle would have been. After a few hours in bottle it is dead. (1201 views)
Tasted by Stanrocks on 12/12/2019 & rated 92 points: Some really great notes here, complex nose of nutty evolution, and flinty at the same time, very good, the palate is bright, sharp and fresh, with the light evolution on hints of honey and flowers, very good wine ... Oysters and Cheese, old Swiss, and Cantal... BOOM (1186 views)
 Tasted by B Sellers on 1/16/2019: USD91.83 (1156 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 11/11/2018 & rated 93 points: Pale yellow color with green reflections, floral nose, but not much expressive. Citrus, stony, with air it opens up, very long. Great wine, but opened too early, will have the next one in not before 2-3 years. The 2010 Clos of Droin is much more open and expressive at the moment. (1148 views)
Tasted by LWI on 4/17/2018 & rated 90 points: Blind. Honey, nuts, oak?, very fine acidity, long and intense, but very developed, perhaps more so than it should have been (1431 views)
Tasted by chitowncdpguy on 3/23/2017: While this is quite chablis in character, it also felt like it was holding back a lot. Everything was nice, well balanced, but very restrained. Wait on these. (2018 views)
Tasted by angryphoton on 10/28/2016 & rated 90 points: a bit early, probably needs 3+ more years, acidity was a bit too sharp, but good structure. (2181 views)
Tasted by czenda on 7/8/2016 & rated 94 points: Long clear taste Chablis. Very good (2472 views)
Tasted by Yiannis on 7/20/2015 & rated 92 points: Medium to dark yellow with green hues. Subtle nose with ripe citrus fruit, subtle oak and minerality. Medium+ bodied, high fruit concentration, high acidity and excellent length. Some hints of wet wool in the aftertaste. Still very young, should have kept for another 3 to 5 years. (2845 views)
Tasted by pjaines on 4/12/2014: Stunning quality - seashells and minerals overlayed with beguiling and amazingly pure fruit - persistent with incredible depth. Apples, chalk, a tiny touch of butter in the background and long long finish. Brilliant. The Grand Cru terroir really points through here. (3075 views)
Tasted by affordableCollector on 2/13/2014 & rated 90 points: pale, yellow, in color. perfumed, floral, gravel, on the nose. citrus, sea shells, lime peel, mineral, on the palate. medium acid, on the finish. (2502 views)
Tasted by -E- on 9/8/2013 & rated 91 points: Klar, svakt gyllen strågul.
91-92 P (2745 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 6/29/2013: Popped and poured. Magical on the palate, just starting to be integrated and coming into its own. Lets start the drinking! (2477 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 10/22/2012: Really open knit, giving and complex. There are notes of honeysuckle, citrus blossom, oranges, lemons and smoky minerals on the nose. In the mouth it has a light butteriness and powerful orchard fruits that are a little candied and spicy. The wine has some decent minerality towards the finish and cleans off with grapefruit acidity. (2670 views)
Tasted by Stefanos T. on 8/3/2012 & rated 94 points: Excellent wine combining on the one hand zesty unripe fruit with full body and creamy texture and on the other absolutely clean finish with long aftertaste. Like a balance of contradictories. Nose is has intensity and is full of lime and unripe pineapple with slight notes of vanilla oak and minerals. Palate is full and texture creamy with citrus notes, oak is more evident on the mouth. Acidity is mouth-watering yet the wind has a round feel on the mouth. Excellent! (2378 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 1/5/2012: This has tightened considerably over the past 12 months and now shows some smoky minerals and oranges and lemons on the nose. The palate is textured, not high glycerol like you may find from a Grand Cru white from the Cote d’Or, but pulpy and strewn with all things geological and derived from the shells and skeletons of ancient sea creatures. Towards the finish the layers of flavour all gather to a singular, piercing point of grapefruit goodness. (2477 views)
Tasted by cortoncharlie on 3/19/2011 & rated 89 points: Dominated by very simple apple and citrus aromas and flavors. A little slate and very prominent acidity which overwhelmed. I thought quite hollow throughout and short. Felt more like a Pouilly Fusse at a summer garden party than a young grand cru white burg. Really not that impressed and i was surprised it got 94pts by AM. maybe a bad bottle (2509 views)
Tasted by Yiannis on 3/1/2011 & rated 93 points: Almost light green. Lime, minerality and flint on the nose. Restrained but extremely elegant and complex. Mid-bodied, mouthcoating and sharp with a steely acidity and an almost endless finish. A future classic. (2562 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 9/21/2010: Understated and fine but oh so powerful. There are ethereal perfumes on the nose, think flint, flowers and cold water from a galvanised iron tank. In the mouth it's all about shape, focus and tension. The high glycerol fruits fan off a rigid mineral spine and it is super focussed and direct on the finish. (1912 views)

Les Clos

Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos exact outline

Les Clos is arguably the finest grand cru vineyard. Les Clos has greater density and power than the more elegant Vaudésir It is a deep and compact wine. The strong mineral core is of polished steel and this is enveloped in a luscious depth of fruit. If Vaudésir is the queen of the grand crus, Les Clos is the king. It ages wonderfully – a minimum of 10 years. It’s a large sunny vineyard, (28.39 hectares) facing south. It is quite rocky and has a higher level of limestone.

It is also a vineyard in Bussières

2021: "From a general standpoint, whether for white, rosé or red wines, 2021 is a year marked by quality in the Rhône Valley Vineyards. Structured, elegant, fresh and fruity will be the main keywords for this new vintage."

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
